could we block the posting of pictures from other sites? give a thread to link to those pics if you're too lazy to upload them throught he forums here, but don't link pics directly via another site. it causes download issues for even fast connections, not just 56k dial up people.

There is no reason to do this. Linking pictures from other sites is the preferred method since this forum has limitations on the pictures that you may upload. Some people do not have a photo resizer and other sites will do this for them, allowing them to post a smaller picture. You cannot just take a 2048x1536 (relatively small 3.2 megapixel camera picture at high res) and upload it onto this forum. You CAN upload it to PhotoBucket or other sites, which will also show a 800x600 or similar sized picture that is much smaller. There are no download issues that I am aware of. The pictures that were mentioned by stevel to load slower than normal loaded faster than I could scroll. Another limitation of forum software is that if you load more than one picture in one post, they will be linked and not displayed, which defeats the purpose of pictures IMO.

Maybe I'm fortunate but I have zero problems downloading any pics from anywhere that are posted on DA :dunno: .

i've only run into slow loading ones on a random occassion. only when they've been linked to outside sources.... the one thread this was originally started about has been rectified though, so it's not a problem now. ;)

The thread in question had to do with the size of the pictures (they were HUGE) and not that they were housed elsewhere. Even now they are housed elswhere, but I resized them and moved them to one of my servers.

Huge pics can cause a problem.
Due diligence is in order. If you see a pic that is HUGE, PM the poster first and if you get no action maybe PM a mod to have it resized.
What also causes a problem is if you're reading the forum from work and the web filters block certain sites. There is nothing anyone on DA can do about that, unless he/she happens to be your network admin. :lmao:

or pm a mod/report the post to request that they fix it or talk to the poster about it if you don't personally want to. hey, that's what moderators are here for!!! (despite the recent displays otherwise.....)
