I saw this on 7th gen Accord but haven't done it myself. Not a monster mod from what I've read but does help a bit. I may have to order it.

For that price it may be worth a try, especially since you've already got a short shifter on it. I think if I wanted to mod my shifter, the first thing to do would be cutting the shaft so that it's closer to the floor...anyone tried/thought about that?

I've seen it done on a few other sites but I don't want to go quite that drastic myself. With the shift kit & Red Line in the tranny I'm well pleased, but for $28.00....may just have to cough up, even if the improvement is small.

I ordered one Friday night for my 06 6speed. I'll post my opinion of it when I get it installed. I also have the Neuspeed short shifter installed.

How are you going to fit the shift knob back on if you cut the shifter? it's tapered towards the bottom and rethreading is going to be a major PITA!

Where's the problem? :dunno:
My friend tried this on his 2.2CL and yes it's tapered...so he broke off the shift lever and had to buy a new one (but it was a much better short shifter, so it was worth it). But my 6th gen isn't tapered...I don't think the 7th gen should be either?

You rethread the shifter once it has been cut off using a tool designed for that.

you can only cut so much before the shaft gets bigger than where the threads are

I installed this tweak today. It fits very well.
Summary:
I would not recommend it. After a 15 min test drive, I can't really say I can tell any difference. I think it might be a little more direct and possibly the 3rd gear shift (my weak point) is improved, but it's nothing I can say I feel for sure. I believe it's a little more crisp, but it's pretty subtle. It certainly did no harm, but if you can't feel an improvement what's the point? If I can tell a difference after more driving in the next couple of weeks I'll post an update. The 2 stock rubber bushings (large) I took out were pretty stiff. That might account for why I can't feel any difference. I should mention I also have the Neuspeed short shifter kit installed. This only cost $28 so I don't feel bad and it might still be worth a try for you.
Installation tips:
For those I have not discouraged. Based on my car, of course, and remember it was only $28.
First: Take the battery and it's plastic housing out. It makes it easier to take out the air filter box and gives you additional room to work on the 2 (I didn't realize their were two!) bushings. Next, take off the air filter box. Watch out for the small (8mm?) bolt on the rear back that holds a small bracket. My Helms manual didn't note it, and I'm glad I didn't go gorilla pulling off the air box. The small bushing would only support 1 washer. I used the plastic one. I think it's a good idea to oil the brass bushings. It looked like the stock ones had an oilite inner bushing. It took me about 2 hours. I admit that I'm kind of slow. Someone in another forum said it took 10 minutes. No way anyone could do it that fast on my car. I think that person had a 4 cyl and/or a CAI.
Good luck, and I'm interested to see if others have a different opinion of this mod.

It's probably not going to make a difference on a new car. On a car with high miles and lots of shifts like mine...it might be better.

Good point Ben. I can see that. The kit did fit pretty well. Though I thought my test drive (yee-haw) should have shown a difference I'm still waiting to see if I can tell an improvement over the next couple of weeks. I really wanted to see an improvement after 2 hours of work!

I doubt it. Ours isn't a big time "mod" car. I had a B&M short shifter on a previous (Cougar) car and I wasn't overly impressed. It was well made with improved tolerances. It was just basically a shifter with about a 2" shorter shaft. It didn't really change the pivot point, etc. I wouldn't want to shorten the length of the shaft on my 6 speed. It falls "readily to hand" with my elbow on the center console. Very comfortable. I would instead recommend the Neuspeed or Comtech short shifter kits that actually change the pivot point. I have the Neuspeed short shifter and am very happy with it. Well worth the $50.

You can try looking at V6p I think they have several people that are willing to reweld the pivot point on the shifter instead of using an adapter.

is the short shifter worth it??
i've been looking at the neuspeed short shifter and i've seen alot of people with them but the distance between my gears is very small i don't see the need for it :dunno: . is it hard to install?? can i do it my self?? and does it improve shifting at all?

I think so. It does reduce the throw by about 25 -30% as advertised.
the distance between my gears is very small
Very true. The stock shifter is very good.
is it hard to install?? can i do it my self?
Probably. They have an installation guide online. I suggest you read it to better decide for yourself. The part where you pry the plastic cup off the ball end was much more difficult than described. That part alone probably took me about 30 minutes while cursing, and trying every alternative I could think of! Everything else was pretty routine.
does it improve shifting at all?
Yes.
