Sorry for starting a new thread if this has already been discussed as I imagine it has. This topic was discussed very thouroughly for the 7th Gen in this thread:

However, I am interested in doing the TL sway bar on my 1998 LX Sedan as well as the strut tower brace in the front. Has anyone else done this? Which TL parts can be used? Years? Thanks for any info.

I THINK this is the old TL-S, so 02-03 model. I'm not sure a 04 TL bar will fit, but it might - I think stevencrosbie did this?

The guy has an install for a TenzoR front strut tower bar on his site too if you wanna go that way - I don't think any TL component will fit there, at least not that I know of.

I had a 2000 EX V6 and I put the 20mm sway bar on with no problems.

Your problems will lie in two areas. First, your car is the I4, which means, I would not want the 20mm bar for fear of overstear. Second, I've read that the exhaust hanger must be bent about 3mm in order for the 04 TL bar to fit properly and not squeek. If you feel you can do this, go ahead.

I also read that the 02-03 TL-S sway bar (19mm) will fit to.

You can read up here. Sorry, its not DA, but the best info on this mod is on V6p.net.

You can read up and do as you wish. I only have experience with the V6, but I would still try to put the 17mm bar on the car. Makes a world of difference. I plan to do the same thing to my current car, but I'm in no hurry.

Best of Luck!

So from what I can tell, the '02-'03 TL-S 19mm bar will fit without having to bend the exhaust hanger. The '04 TL 17mm bar will fit, but I will need to bend the exhaust hanger. Given that the 20mm bar could result in some serious oversteer, I would imagine that the 19mm bar would be bordering on the same. Does that sound correct? Thanks for helping clear this up.

Yup, that's what I think. The 17 would be the best option for you and it will make your car feel completely different.

One final question...

Is the 1998 LX stock sway bar really 14mm? I have been reading on some other forums that it is actually 17mm, in which case, the '04 TL sway wouldn't be an upgrade. Just wanted to confirm the diameter. Thanks.

I think its 14. The one I took off my car was dwarfed by the 04 TL bar.

I just located on Ownerlink the suspension specs for the 1998 LX 2.3L Sedan. According to Ownerlink, on both the LX and EX 2.3L Sedans the front stabilizer bar is 26.5mm and the rear is 16.0mm. On the V6 models (both LX and EX), the front stabilizer bar is 27.2 and the rear is 16.0mm. The 2.3L Coupe gets a 26.5mm bar in front and a 17mm bar in the rear and the V6 Coupe gets a 27.2mm bar in front and a 17mm bar in the rear.
