samsonskeg 03-20-2006, 01:48 PM Man, i freaken hate sprint with a pasion. Ive been cut off service twice this week when i paid my bills and when i call them to ask whats up with the service, they just keep saying that they overlooked the payment. Last month my 500 phone broke and they said i had no insurance on it, which indeed ive been paying for insurance since i signed up with them. I had to copy/fax them a copy of my bill. They didnt even give me the same phone, they gave me a $50 phone, that looks somewhat exactly like it and was a refurbish phone.
When i asked them about leaving sprint, i asked them how long it would take to have my # carried over to the different provider, they said it would take 2 weeks for sprint to have everything cleared up and then let the new provider have the same #.
And the closest authorized sprint store is like 20 miles away and its run by a bunch of fools with no sense of customer hospitality what so ever. :thumbsdow
Now, I have verizon. My phone bills should drop dramatically and ive heared nothign but good things from them. Like 90% of my friends/family has it and not a single complain. The guys at verizon even gave me a free cell phone clip, car charger, leather pouch thing and transfered my #'s to my new phone for free   .
samsonskeg 03-20-2006, 01:49 PM And my old phone # transfered to the verizons phone like freaken 1 minute.
Spades 03-20-2006, 01:54 PM Yeah, in the future and for anyone else thinking of changing providers -- always go to your new provider first to transfer your number. If you cancel with your old provider first and then try to transfer your number you probably won't be able to do it any longer.
RTexasF 03-20-2006, 01:57 PM I've been with Verizon going on six years now. Of the MANY previous companies I've tried I'll stick with these guys. I like getting a new phone every two years at no charge (up to $100) too.
My problem is usually finding a simple phone with a large readout and no gadgets. I don't want or need a camera phone nor do I care to spend more monthly to access the web. We'll see what's new this August when it's new every two time again.

My old LG 4400 just cr@pped out (aye - she was a fine lass, but couldna take no more)
I too did not want the latest junk - RAZR, VCast, text this, web that...
I ended up with a Motorolla V325. I has a camera although not the latest and greatest. What it does have is a good display, GREAT reception/bat life and...Navigation!?! This is the first Verizon phone for the Nav system and it works really well, and the best part is you can buy the service either yearly or in 24hr blocks for 3 bux a shot. That to me beats any of the other garbage they are putting on these phones nowadays.
Oh, and the speakerphone really works - no need for bluetooth and headsets.
Got it free on the "new every two" upgrade plan.
ericrwalker 03-20-2006, 02:24 PM I hate Sprint and Nextel myself....Nextel owe me over $200, I have been trying to get it back now for many months. The service always sucked anyway. My ex-girlfriend had Sprint and they were worse than Nextel. They always turned her phone off and said she didn't pay. We had to always fax proof to them that she did pay. Not to mentioned service only worked in cities.
I've been using cellphones for 7 years. For 5 of them I have been using Cingular (was cellone before) and they have been great. I have service everywhere, and I travel a lot. I would rate verizon up with Cingular but Verizon doesn't work well in my town, or at all in my house.
Another thing about Sprint is they don't work in Canada (or at least they didn't a couple of years ago) and my cingular and Nextel phones worked there.
BenjiBoy650 03-20-2006, 02:42 PM My dad's had a contract with Sprint for over 6 years with no problems.
If I can I'm going to ditch my Razr and Cingular when it's due...both are trash...

You're practically in San Francisco, like I said, Sprint works in Cities. I wouldn't recommend any of the flashy cellphones from Cingular anyway. If you get a more basic model the service is great.

Boy are we more similar than you think! Verizon for 10 years with new phones every 2 years, and the first thing I look for is the ability to have large text so I don't need my bifocals to see the stinkin' caller ID. :lmao:

Andy-
Pretty soon we are both "another year older and deeper in debt".
   :)
ezshift5 03-21-2006, 06:53 AM I've been with Verizon going on six years now..
...joined Verizon 1999: NoCal Ag Fair....20/month...
..seven years have passed....20/month continues..
..now you know how I can afford to drive a Honda 6M coupe....
..seriously, (overall) no real complaints....
(well, sometimes the retail stores mirror a zoo............)
best, ez..
Accord4Life 03-21-2006, 07:29 AM We have Sprint. I got it becuase it at the time was good for our family share plan needs. We have 5 Phones on our account and we share 3500 Minutes. It costs about $68.95 a month. But I use my sisters Continintal Airlines discount (Flight Attendant) and that takes $20.00 off. So Its not that bad in price. I'll be switching to Cingular though next year in July when our contract is over, not becuase Im completely disatisfied, but becuase our world travels really require us to have GSM world phones. I don't know why Sprint has such a hard time making a Bluetooth phone that doesn't have restrictions on how you can use it. Two of our phones are bluetooth, and I bought them with the impression that we could sync them with our computers, but it turns out they are only good for headset use, and mobile to mobile contact transfers. That was totaly waste of $500! I like the Sanyo, and Samsung phones sprint has, they are very fincutional, and modern too IMO. Our Kids both have Samsung PM-A840's, I perfer their flip phones alot more than our LG PM 325's. Overall Sprint has been good to me. And I enjoy having the 'Fair and Flexible Plan' it's quite handy. Better Phones is all I want.

Spades 03-21-2006, 02:32 PM I've had Cingular for 4 years and I haven't really had any problems with them. I did have serious problems with Motorola phones, though so I'll never buy another Motorola ever again (I went through 7 Motorola phones within 6 months all warranty exchanged). In regards to the actual Cingular service, I always get fairly good reception and it is much better than the two people I know who have Sprint. Their roll-over minutes are pretty good too.
They let you upgrade every 10 months (I think) as long as you re-sign. I just ordered a new phone on Monday, it was $100 and I got $100 off and shipping was free so I just have to pay the $18 upgrade fee.
VTECaddict 03-21-2006, 04:48 PM I havent really had problems with Cingular, but IMO they are the only company I would ever use. T-mobile's coverage sucks, even though prices are awesome. Verizon's an over controlling nazi that nickels and dimes everything. I dont want to give them my business. Havent had much experience wtih Sprint/Nextel...
Oh, and apparently Cingular has "fewest dropped calls" and the "best network in the San Francisco Bay Area" accoring to their recent advertisments.
I havent had a bad experience with Motorola phones. My V600 is still working well, and I got it from AT&T Wireless 3 years ago. I've lost faith in Sony Ericsson though. I got a new W600i in mid Dec, and it died mid Jan. Got a replacement and now the replacement died 2 months later. I'm going to go back to Moto...buying the RAZR V3i w/ iTunes off eBay soon.

That's a bunch of cow crap. I have 5 bars all around Berkeley campus and the call is dropped 1/4 of the time for no reason. It's so ridiculous it angers me
ericrwalker 03-21-2006, 07:20 PM I think it a RAZR issue, like Spades mentioned he had problems with Motorola, and I've heard that the RAZR is all looks but doesn't work well. Also I know sometimes a tech doesn't program the phone correct. If you bring it back to where you got it and tell them your situation maybe they can correct it. :dunno:

I also have Cingular and it's been ok. I'm saving a bundle because most of my wife's friends are on Cingular as well, so she doesn't burn the anytime minutes when she's talking to them.
As far as the upgrade eligibility period, I guess it depends on the length of your contract. You must have a 1 year agreement. I have a 2 year agreement starting March 2005 and I can't upgrade until Dec 2005.
princess 03-22-2006, 07:55 AM We've had "verizon" since 1995...it was GTE then.... no complaints!!
The kids have a Razr & Cingular.... they use our verizon more....it's more reliable!! They haven't had problems with the Razr itself though...
On a side note......this morning sometimes between 2 am & 6 am my daughter's car window (95 Accord) was broke. They left the stereo, but took a coat, a make-up case :dunno: an empty glasses case & her cell phone. The Verizon one!! So I had to call & stop the number & order a new phone via the insurance that I've been paying for.....hey, it's the first claim!!
My prince will bring a window home tonight...luckily today & tomorrow are supposed to be dry!! :paranoid:

princess 03-22-2006, 08:43 AM I'm thankful that they didn't booger up anything else on the car..... just the broken window!!
I seem to be having more of the feeling of violation than she does....maybe because in was in fron t of my house!
The phone is going to be replaced by a brand new Samsung by fedex tomorrow!!

the RAZR is mostly looks. the features are more of a midrange phone than a high end phone that it should be. reception wise, the RAZR is supposed to be very good, on par with Nokias.
