View Full Version : Accord or Odyssey?

Ok...so here's the thing. Before I bought the Accord in August, I was searching for 2 types of vehicles. One was a 5 speed, one was a van. I didn't really care which one I ended up with, because I liked the Odyssey and that's the only one my dad would buy anyway. Well now my dad wants to sell the Camry (if you've read my posts, you've seen one of numerous times that it's had bad luck). So therefore...he might want to take my Accord and buy me an Odyssey that I always wanted. There is more to it than that though.

In Fall of 2005 I'll be going to college. Probably by that time, the new MY2005 Odyssey will have come out and the old 99-04 model prices will have dropped significantly. That's a big deal, because if you have been following these vans they absolutely do not depreciate, their resale is amazing. So I'm considering just driving my dads 300E until I go to college, by that time I can get the Odyssey I wanted, and much cheaper, and probably could get my hands on the newer 240HP/5-speed auto 2002 model too.

So what do you guys think? Buy the Odyssey or just wait? Princess...has the Prince had many incidents of transmission failures in the 99-01 Odyssey (4-speed auto)? Also, does he notice that there are less failures in the newer ones? Any note on at what mileage they tend to go? BTW, how come the Prince doesn't make an appearance himself? Only seems logical, you bombard him with questions from this board anyway :D

Your timing & decision on a van or not is all yours kiddo! As far as problems, you know each model has it's bugs. I haven't kept track of when the model updates are for the Ody. As a general rule (I didn't follow it) you want the second year of an engine change.

Prince doesn't have time for the board. He works 10 hour days, gone for closer to 13 with commute time. He conciders this "my" thing. He'll help me when I ask, but knows I have access to info that can help others without asking him. (He set that up for me) I actually don't need to ask him all that much!

He has other computer interests. He HAS to talk Hondas all day & isn't his first choice away from work. Then we do go away many weekends.....you may have noticed that I commonly only post Mon-Thur. When we're around I do check on weekends when I can.

I will ask him specific questions about the van. It's the same drive train as the Pilot, so I think the tranny weakness is just to keep the fluid clean. They don't filter externally anymore. He changes ours at 5k, with the oil.:)

How about both.....? I'm on the hunt for one ...
The Mazda is almost out of warranty..... and I know if I keep it I'll have troubles....To many rattles and squeaks for me....

I need to drive one (Odyssey) for a extended time to see if it will be comfortable for road trips .....

Wow both would be a bit much for a 16 year old teen that would just drive it to school lol.
