View Full Version : New Car?
Accord4Life 03-23-2006, 06:32 PM Ok I know this sounds kinda silly, but I want a 'new' (used) Accord. I did just turn in my 06' Accord for an 03' Pilot for my wife, but I've been noticing that I really need a larger car then my 5th Gen Accord if Im gonna be taking the kids around. I would just use the Pilot, but my wife Karen is always shuttuling clients around to see houses (realtor). So... I had my 96' in at my Mechanic today for a simple tire rotation, and of course the CV boot went bad on the right, so there goes another $180.00, but while they were replacing that I had the NICEST 2001 Accord LX Sedan loaner. Black, Stick, Leather, Alloy Wheels (From an SE). It was so sharp looking, my jaw wanted to drop. And the best thing of all is it's for sale! They want $9500, it does have 98k... Im ok with those miles though. I mean it was owned by a mechanic I know and trust, plus it's a Honda! During my time of having it I went through it and sat in every single seating position, just so I could compare it to my 96' Accord. While others that I've spoken to felt that the dimensions inside were close. I highly disagree. Even with the seat all the way back there was still room for REAL legs in the back. So now Im stuck with the decision of if I really 'need' another car. Im getting the 08', But that's more then a year away, and I kinda want/need that extra space/amenities that it has to offer. Financially. I have a good 30k away in my car spending account. This money, which came from my wifes SC 430 of which we sold for something more sensible, was designated to get my wife and I cars that were affordable, practical, and useful until we get our 2008 Pilot and Accord. My only fear is depreciation. And the impact it will have on what I have to put down, seeing as this is going to be a good 55k worth of car at least for the new 08's. And I was hoping to have at least 50% of the price covered.
Here's what Im looking at...
Price of new Cars (08') - $55k
Amount I currently have to put as a down payment (not including a trade...) - $30k
Price of 01' Accord - $9500
Final Amount of down payment money in cash $20500
Amount Financed (Not including trade(s) - $34500
What Im asking you!
Is it worth it? Yes or No!?!?! :dunno:
What can I say. Im a sucker for these Accords...
Sorry for the long post,
Mike.
stevencrosbie 03-23-2006, 06:34 PM Come on Mike....just get a used 7th gen like you wanted. You want a MT anyways.
Accord4Life 03-23-2006, 06:38 PM I know but the money... I don't want to take that depreciation hit, and I'd like my next car payment to be as low as possible... I have been looking for an MT 03-05 though. They are hard to come by in EX trim.
stiller fan 03-23-2006, 06:43 PM if ur going to get a used 6th gen, get one with MT.....
alot cheaper than replacing the tranny on the AT down the road (and you'll know that it'll happen sometime, knowing your luck.... )
in fact, how about a 4dr v6 MT???? :naughty: did they make that configuration??? :dunno:
Accord4Life 03-23-2006, 06:45 PM Stiller... Don't egg me onto any conversions :lmao: ...
This one is an MT, 'hint' the word 'stick' in my post...
Ok that was smart assy...
Spades 03-23-2006, 06:50 PM Well, if you were to get a used '03, the worst of the depreciation years would already be over...
BenjiBoy650 03-23-2006, 07:00 PM If there was a 6th gen V6 MT I'd have bought that instead :) But I wanted stick and this is the only way they hooked em up.
Accord4Life 03-23-2006, 07:09 PM Well, if you were to get a used '03, the worst of the depreciation years would already be over...
Still, if I get used I want the best. (As far as options go anyways...) And on average an 03' EX MT Sedan with 40k goes for 18.5-19k certified. And if I get a 7th gen it MUST have a warrantee. This one seems too basic to have many 'real' issues. The CD player already broke, and has been replaced, there's no fancy side airbags, or ABS to go freaky on me, it has ample power coupled with a trouble free MT. Leather too! BTW, its an LX, but they did the drum to disc conversion on the rear brakes  !
Idk what to do...
Im in luv with this car. She's just so darn pretty!
Mike
stevencrosbie 03-23-2006, 07:10 PM Its withdraw symptoms...
K24>>F23

Then just do it!
Accord4Life 03-23-2006, 07:17 PM I don't want to think that though!!! Honestly, the K24 vs. this F23 isn't that big of a difference to me. This one has an AEM cold air intake, so that might make a difference. Plus this one actually sounds like a Honda!
Mike
Accord4Life 03-23-2006, 07:18 PM Then just do it!
Im really leaning that way...

:naughty: :naughty: :naughty:
If you really like the 6th Gen, go for it....maybe you could sell one of your older Accords and keep this one around after you get the 8th Gen? :dunno:
Spades 03-23-2006, 07:19 PM *off-topic* Why is Mike's signature only showing on some of his posts in this thread?
stevencrosbie 03-23-2006, 07:21 PM Maybe he's deleting them? There's an option to not include your sig. at the bottom.

And I was gonna go withdraw that money and buy my 01' Accord tomorrow...
Back in the middle again lol...
Mike

Maybe you could convince Andy to take a look at it for ya... :dunno: :lmao: :lmao:
SiClone 03-23-2006, 08:45 PM Mike,
What happened to the 06 since last we talked??? :dunno:
You and Karen must have negotiated a new deal.... LOL....
On a side note, my folks just bought that house that we talked about last year around Thanksgiving.... You know, the one Karen looked into...
ItsaHonda 03-24-2006, 04:33 AM I had my 96' in at my Mechanic today for a simple tire rotation>>>

I believe the EXTERIOR dimensions were similar, but the interior was larger. That was Honda's slogan for a couple of years "How did we make it bigger inside, without making it bigger on the outside?" Although the 6th gen definitely felt wider than my 5th gen.

My 96 is my baby! She ain't goin no where! Especially since I just did the 90k, full detail etc. to it. Like I've said before. Weird bond with her. She's taken me across the country and back, so now Im too attached...
Yes the inside is larger, and I remember those Honda commercials with the whole bigger on the inside thing. I even just finished watching that same commercial on the net, where there is a man lost in the grain of he leather interior :lmao: then it goes something like "Man it's big in here!" :lmao: thats a 'tad' bit of an overstatement, but still, it's certaintly an improvement over the 5th gen, and it has TONS of storage space, and a good glove box to boot! I suppose the extra space combines with all the little details my 5th gen lacks like that special place for your sunglasses, or the pockets in the rear doors and the cup holders in back are what draw me into wanting to get this car to drive for the next year. Maybe longer. Who knows. I have a weekend to really think about it. Then I suppose on Monday I'll make my decision. I mean its a Honda, so Im not seeing much room for a bad choice in there.
As of right now, Im leaning towards getting it on monday, and I hope it stays that way becuase I really want/need this!

Wow Si! We sure haven't talken in a while!
Let me update ya! So here's a rundown...
Sold wifes lex.
Turned in the 06'.
Got a used 03' Pilot EXL for 22k with 11k down from the lexus sale.
Been wanting a good 6th/7th gen to hold me over until I get my new car, but it has to be at a good price (Like under 10k, so I can pay in cash and still have a decent down payment for the new Accord and Pilot I plan to buy in 08').
Trying to decide if I want to buy this 6th gen that the woman who own the shop where I take my cars is selling, that used to be her personal car, but she perfers her 1994 Accord EXL 5spd I4. Claims it has more 'pep' to it? Personal preference I suppose.
Whew!
Mike.
P.S. Lets chat sometime!
ItsaHonda 03-26-2006, 12:47 PM <<My 96 is my baby! She ain't goin no where! Especially since I just did the 90k, full detail etc. to it. Like I've said before. Weird bond with her. She's taken me across the country and back, so now Im too attached...>>>
I said that too, and my 96 took me across country several times! It was practically still new when I bought it (Only 40k) and nearing 170k when I sold it. I still miss it sometimes, especially when I see another 5th gen (which is quite often!) but the 06 is a far superior automobile. The kid who bought my 96 says he loves it, and is taking good care of it. They are very reliable little cars indeed.

If you can come across it again, send me the link! I haven't seen that one yet...
stiller fan 03-26-2006, 01:05 PM bought my car at 90k on her..... immaculate condition then.....
not so immaculate now tho.... :dunno: :lmao:

Yeah mine either...someone scraped the side of my rear bumper on Friday :thumbsdow
SiClone 03-26-2006, 09:26 PM Uh, can't your 96 just hold you down until then???? Or are them ugly tail lights (I liked the 94-95 MUCH more ) getting to you???? :lmao:
ItsaHonda 03-27-2006, 08:39 AM I thought just the opposite, the 96-97 rearend updated the 5th gen nicely until the redesign came along and made it plain again. I liked my dual factory chromed exhaust tips!
Accord4Life 03-27-2006, 06:16 PM UPDATE!
On those tails. Personally I perfer the 96-97 style. Honda made several improvements in that mid cyclie refresh. Larger wheels for the LX. They added map lights (not offered at all before), Power seats that were 6way adjustable, Larger trunk opening, and it was a little longer from the new booty they added :) . Also there was a better cupholder, integrated antennae in the window, and engines were retuned, plus they had stricter emissions standards which made them LEV's (Low emission vehicles). Thats always a plus!
Now back to my purchase of this Accord. Im buying it tomorrow!!! The price is only 8.5grand now so thats even better! I can't wait to have it. Im gonna take lots of pics as soon as I get it definetly.
A quick run down of everything extra it has over a regular LX-
EX Alloy Wheels
Spoiler
7CD Changer (One in dash, six in trunk)
Honda Floor Mats
Leather
Security System
4wheel disc brakes (non-abs)
Sadly they took off the AEM cold air intake, they said the filter was messed up. But thats ok. THe 150HP is still way more than 130!
Pics tomorrow!!!

Just ask them to let you have the tube. Then you can go and buy a new cone filter for it....
Accord4Life 03-28-2006, 04:48 PM Guess who bought a 2001 Honda Accord LX today! ME!!!
But I can't have it until tomorrow :(! The owner was driving it yesterday and somone backed into it and the tail light is on order. The bumper cover has a scratch, but its being buffed out.
So pics tomorrow when I get it! And thx Si for that tip (duh to me! lol). I should probably just get the tube from them.
Happy owner of 3 Accords!
Mike
JWesG2 03-28-2006, 06:27 PM Congrats on the accord purchase,
I stayed after w/ two friends at work today, to put subs in a friend-Erika's 01 exv6 firepepper red sedan,
She has it looking pretty nice, tinted windows, chrome plate frame, chrome tips, chrome honda plate on the front, and a sunroof deflector..
I thought you told me once you couldnt live w/o a sunroof?? LX??
Nonetheless im glad for you..
I could never buy a vehicle with that high of mileage.. My altima had the highest starting-out mileage at 48k..
I get scarred when my vehicles hit 75k-- which is probobly why i will get rid of my accord near that time anyway.. IDK I just get paranoid about something blowing up or getting old or something-- I worry about my grandma in her 99 Camry xlev6 driving here from ky w/ 160k-- and it hasnt ever had a THING go wrong with it, only other then routine maint (timing belt, brakes) has been both front strut mounts ($20 ea. my cost LOL)
I wanna see pics!!!!
SiClone 03-28-2006, 08:31 PM The owner was driving it yesterday and somone backed into it and the tail light is on order. The bumper cover has a scratch, but its being buffed out.
Sounds like an instant rebate for you (i.e. $500 off the price)....
stiller fan 03-29-2006, 08:48 AM hey mike,
how may accords do you really need there???? :lmao:  :joker:
ItsaHonda 03-29-2006, 01:21 PM hey mike, how may accords do you really need there???? >>>
:lmao: I've had up to three at one time, and I'd go back to two if I can come across a mint 93 SE (My dream Accord, besides a 1st gen)
BenjiBoy650 03-29-2006, 04:04 PM I'd like to have three if I had the money! My current one (sentimental value :) ), a 04 AV6MT, and a 86 LX sedan to modify --> sleeper. Anybody ever see a H22 in a third gen? How about if I try a supercharged TSX motor? :notworthy
Accord4Life 03-29-2006, 05:21 PM Ok! Got my Accord!!! She's a beaute:)
It was dark when I picked her up, so Im going to have to take pictures tomorrow.
I love this car!!! It has TONS AND TONS of places to store things. Pockets in the rear doors, cubbies, split armrest compartments, and a HUGE glovebox too!!! New brakes all around! The 4wheel disc upgrade makes the car feel really, really grippy. I mean it STOPS! Reverse is a bit hard to get into, but I'll get used to it. I like the manual adjustments on this seat over the power ones on the EX. I feel like I can position the seat better to fit me. Legroom in the back is so much better than my 96' and the kids are really thanking me for that. Plus they have cupholders now too! The previous owner must have upgraded the sound system. It has the stock CD headunit that comes in the 1998-2000 Models (The one that takes up the whole din) and a CD changer in the trunk. So it holds 7 CD's!!! These Sony Xplode speakers sound great. They really have 'bass'. Well anyways so far so good!
Mike
P.S. The car actually has 100.1k on it. I could have sworn it only had 98k when I test drove it. But what the hell. I got it for a bargain! ($8500) Plus, its a honda, and It'll probably last 450k+
stevencrosbie 04-02-2006, 03:58 PM No pictures?
Maybe there are pictures, but I just got back from spring break and don't feel like looking through a million posts :headbash: :headbash:
Accord4Life 04-03-2006, 02:54 PM Welcome back!
I didn't put up pics becuase she was dirty. Now she's clean and I need to get on photobucket and upload them.
Mike
stevencrosbie 04-03-2006, 03:32 PM Thanks....
Excuses....Excuses :blah: :blah: :blah: :blah:
Accord4Life 04-05-2006, 06:02 PM Ok here they are! I JUST got out of the carwash and I decided to take the pics across the street to not have to risk any dirt getting on it!
The Car!!!

I took off the front lisence plate, it just didn't look right. If I get pulled over I'll just put it back on I guess. Anyone know how to remove pin stripe? Only one side of the car has it, and I hate the look of it.
stevencrosbie 04-05-2006, 06:15 PM Looking at that picture makes me miss my old 2000 Accord :sorry: . I loved that car and its color.....if only it was a manual.....I'd still have it.
Accord4Life 04-05-2006, 06:38 PM Hm... Well maybe you need another Accord! I say get a 2001 Honda Accord EXL 5sp 4cyl coupe! :)
Ofcourse not everyone is as addicted to Accords as I :)
stiller fan 04-05-2006, 07:22 PM you wanna bet???? :lmao: :D
