For a 2002 Accord 4 door EX V6, does anyone know how long it would take a dealer to install fog lights and how much it would cost for the labor?

Hi Wheelhorse,

Why don't you get them from Tim and install them yourself?

bobf58,
HandA has them on special right now, but I'm right in the middle of travel hockey and figure skating season so my time on the weekends is minimal. Plus I want it done right :D

I just put some aftermarket fog lights on my car, and think it took maybe 30 minutes from start to finish. The most time consuming part was routing the wires to make them as obsucure as possible. All you should really need are basic hand tools and you should be able to do it no problems!

I installed the 2002 EX sedan Foglights in my Sister's V6 sedan. It was not that bad. Only requires some patients and a free Saturday morning.

I think the dealers here charge 1-1.5 hours to install them. The benefits to factory is that your buttons match all the rest. You have someone to yell at it they miss on the cuts required. The light chimes still work. And you don't have to "hide" the wires.

One of the drawbacks is that they are to be wired so that the headlights are on at the same time. We have "tule" fog. The low kind. So foglights work best with the headlights off. We have factory foglights, but wired so we don't HAVE to use the headlights at the same time.

They were this way on our '02 Accord V6, & they are this way on our Pilot & the "03 Accord also.

On each of these I couldn't bring myself to watch as the cuts were made! Although foglights are needed here, the idea of putting holes in a brand new car just seems wrong! I also had to leave the work area when the spoiler was installed!:sorry:

I know what you guys are saying about installing the factory fog lights. Looks a little complicated at first glance. But since the car is already designed to handle them installation should be pretty straight forward. I also cringe when thinking about cutting BIG HOLES in the front of my baby!

Any one have opimions on the rear spolier, (Which one to get? I think Honda offers two styles.

2nd question - Any opinions on 17" wheels and tires? Got some good places to go to purchase them?

Thanx!

If you are going with 17" rims get OEM Honda wheels.

I'd get the low profile rear spoiler, just because is seems more rare.

How did you wire them so they wouldn't HAVE to come on with the headlights? I asked the dealer about that & was told it couldn't be done. I would love to have mine come on with only the parking lights.

The reason the dealer says it can't be done is that the ability to run the foglamps without the headlights on would violate State Vehicle Code.

Begin political comment Far be it from us to know how to use fog lights properly, Of course they could be right given the idiots that drive in the fog with their HIGH BEAMS ON!, End political comment

You may also notice the factory fog lights only operate when the low beam headlight circuit is on and do not operate when the headlights are on highbeam.

Here is the vehicle code for California, I'm sure most other states have similar if not identical laws.

CALIFORNIA CODES
VEHICLE CODE
SECTION 24400-24411

24403.

(a) A motor vehicle may be equipped with not more than two foglamps that may be used with, but may not be used in substitution of, headlamps.

(b) On a motor vehicle other than a motorcycle, the foglamps
authorized under this section shall be mounted on the front at a
height of not less than 12 inches nor more than 30 inches and aimed so that when the vehicle is not loaded none of the high-intensity portion of the light to the left of the center of the vehicle
projects higher than a level of four inches below the level of the
center of the lamp from which it comes, for a distance of 25 feet in
front of the vehicle.

(c) On a motorcycle, the foglamps authorized under this section
shall be mounted on the front at a height of not less than 12 inches nor more than 40 inches and aimed so that when the vehicle is not loaded none of the high-intensity portion of the light to the left of the center of the vehicle projects higher than a level of four inches below the level of the center of the lamp from which it comes, for a distance of 25 feet in front of the vehicle.

I think he just spliced into the wire in the switch for the running lights. I'll ask.

The dealer should say, "they can't do it" not it CAN'T be done! If the laws there are like ours.

pshivers, you're right, they do seem to think they have to idiot proof everything! It's not working!!!

The foggiest place we've been was Stockton. You couldn't see the hood of your own car! It was very spooky!

As I interpret it, it is illegal for the dealer to allow the foglights to run independently of the headlamps because of the risk of people running it in substitution of the headlamps. However, if you can figure out a way to do it yourself, it is not illegal if you turn on your headlights in darkness. The law says you only have to turn on your headlights in darkness so you could always use only fog lights in the daytime in fog, so it would still be legal the way princess is using it. It's true though that headlights in fog = suck but living in a fog infested area I've gotten used to that already. None of our current or even previous cars have any real foglights, only the old 1986 300E with the yellow lamps next to the headlights. I find that if the fog is really bad at night, you really need high beams to see. It does blind you a bit but it reflects off a lot more objects, so it takes a little but gives a lot more. I need a new vehicle code, mine says 2002 :(

Maybe the law has changed since 1994. My 1994 Pontiac Grand Am GT has fog lights that work when the headlights aren't on.
