View Full Version : spring fever (weather)
princess 04-13-2006, 03:40 PM the sun is out & I'm dealing with spring fever....
since I keep diverting the "winter" thread.... this will be with weather we're having in spring thread. So whether is sunshine, rain, storms, too cold, too hot, too dry.... here's the weather thread to put it!! :D
We're not done with the rain, but there's a light at the end of the tunnel now!!
SSMV6 04-13-2006, 04:19 PM I actually saw the sun for a few hours this afternoon during my lunch time... Temps have been around 70 for the past few days and it looks like it's going to stay that way for another few days! The warm rain at night is a welcome sight... Much better than the snow.
RTexasF 04-13-2006, 04:35 PM We've been running the A/C for a few weeks now. I'm sure the next bill will be a shocker......no gas, all electric house.
stevencrosbie 04-13-2006, 05:04 PM My parent's house is the same way in Texas. 6,500 SQ FT, 13 tons of A/C....
Electric bill is just awesome.
princess 04-13-2006, 05:34 PM I heard it's in the 90's in PHX, where most of my family is.... I'm sooooo jealous!!!
I remember 30 years ago my brother having 300 electric bills! That with only runing the A/C after work! It's probably double now!!
Since it's after 5:30 here, it's cooled down a bunch. It was sure feeling good to have naked toes!!! But now they're getting chippy!
MichNYC 04-13-2006, 05:54 PM It was in the mid-70s here today, and sunny! I'm hoping it stays that way!!! Especially since my spring break started today!!!
samsonskeg 04-13-2006, 06:14 PM it was 70's here :) Got up had breakfast, took the bike out for a ride :) Got home around 5'ish.
I feel that I have neglected my accord lately :)
princess 04-13-2006, 06:31 PM OK, there's something wrong with this picture!! NY is warmer than CA???!!! :paranoid:
We actually were in the low 70's here, it's 71 now.
Feels warm to me at the moment. I just got off the treadmill. Yeah, it's time to get more diligent with that machine. I've got to go back to doubling up the Pilates too. Once the pool is open I'll stop the DREADmill.
princess 04-13-2006, 06:32 PM Michelle, got any big plans for Spring Break??? :dunno:
samsonskeg 04-13-2006, 06:35 PM hehehe yeah its pretty warm this afternoon, but now its like 50 degree's. Gonna go out for a night riding :)
MichNYC 04-13-2006, 07:04 PM Michelle, got any big plans for Spring Break??? :dunno:
Nope, no big plans. I wanted to go somewhere, but I don't like to travel on my own. :( A co-worker invited me to join him & his friends in Vegas, but he asked last-minute, and I couldn't find any cheap airfare. Besides, I need to finish my thesis, and this week will provide the perfect opportunity for that, since I don't have to work!
stevencrosbie 04-13-2006, 07:20 PM You know, relaxing is a good vacation too.
hermann 04-13-2006, 07:44 PM Record high of 92 in Kansas City on April 13th, lucky it wasn't Friday the 13th. :paranoid: I thinks global warming is alive and well this spring... Normal high is about 30 less than that. :dunno: :dunno: :paranoid: :paranoid:
stiller fan 04-13-2006, 08:22 PM wait til hurricane season starts.... :paranoid:
BenjiBoy650 04-13-2006, 08:33 PM It's too hot!!!
stiller fan 04-13-2006, 08:38 PM it was close to 90 in st. louis today... :lmao:
had a few isloated tstorms in philly too, most of the rain did not reach the ground tho (atmosphere too dry)
jermy4 04-14-2006, 05:11 AM it was close to 90 in st. louis today... :lmao:
I know ... in normal fashion we had a very very short spring. Once we hit 90 or so it's all hot days from here.
princess 04-14-2006, 08:42 AM It's too hot!!!
Ben, you're NUTS!!!!! :D You may melt later on the east side of the bay!!!
RTexasF 04-14-2006, 08:49 AM My parent's house is the same way in Texas. 6,500 SQ FT, 13 tons of A/C....
Electric bill is just awesome.
That's a mansion not just a house! Wowzers! I can only imagine owning a home that size.
stevencrosbie 04-14-2006, 09:11 AM I know, but its a modest Ranch style home. It's funny how you get used to the space. The home is 110 by 60 and of course is all single story. House is set on 2.6 acres of sprinkled lawn....
I miss that house....good thing is the Academy brings modesty back into life.

I can't wait to have a home that big one of these days. I just love the open spaces....
princess 04-19-2006, 08:53 AM It was just past 70 yesterday & today promises to be a bit warmer!!! I have Spring fever somethin' fierce! I'm heading out to Home Depot & buying flowers, mulch, & stuff for the back yard. Then come home & play in the sunshine!
We started on the pool yesterday. It's been vacuumed & shocked.... still not warm enough to use, but it's looking more & more inviting!
Spring has sprung!!!!! :jumping: :jumping: :jumping: :jumping: :jumping: :jumping: :jumping: :jumping: :jumping: :jumping:
Peniole 04-19-2006, 10:04 AM 4 Inches of snow Monday mid 40's, remember the picture I posted well just about another one of those (this time only 4-5 inches of snow). Tuesday 50's, washed and waxed the car, cleaned the interior with a real vacuum...etc. Now it's mid 60's heading to 70's. Crazy wierd weather
SSMV6 04-19-2006, 10:33 AM This weekend looks like it's going to be nice... Time to clean the car inside and out in preparation for my trip. :D Mine needs a vacuum BAD! I've been neglecting it the past winter. :paranoid:
MichNYC 04-19-2006, 03:01 PM Low 70s here today. I spent the bulk of the afternoon sitting in the park with my laptop, working on my thesis. I have to say, if I've gotta write the thesis, working in the park is a good way to do it! :D
RTexasF 04-19-2006, 03:05 PM Temps here have been 10-15 degrees above normal for the last few weeks. I was hoping for some more spring before summer cut loose.
June, July, and August are really going to be rude at this rate!
princess 04-19-2006, 05:32 PM Summer in TX is always RUDE!!!! :lmao: Sticky & hot & more heat! :lmao: I seriously wish it would settle down a bit for you folks back there... the fires & drought & heat have been nasty for ya!
I'd be fine if we just went on into Summer since Spring was so late this year.
I spent the day....10 AM- 4 PM working in the backyard. Planting, cleaning, trimming..... I'm tired & pink & loved every minute of it!!!
The pool's up to 72. We haven't even put the cover on it. We will soon though. The boys wanted to jump init today, but had to settle for the sprinklers instead.
stiller fan 04-19-2006, 06:01 PM water temp of 72 would be a bit chilly, unless the air temp was over 90, then very refreshing.... :D
no, i don't want to go into summer just yet..... although that i know that snow is gone for the enxt 6 months (barring a freakish storm), i don't want the same summer to happen like last year, where for weeks, not days, it was around 90-95 everyday with high humidity..... that was too hot for me....
i'll take mid-upper 80's with low humidity tho, and thunderstorms, anyday....
princess 04-19-2006, 06:05 PM I think I over-pink'd myself.... now I'm freezing & it's 70 right now!
I don't stick my toes in the pool until it's at least 85.... I prefer 90!
Windchimp 04-19-2006, 06:38 PM I think I over-pink'd myself.... now I'm freezing & it's 70 right now!
I don't stick my toes in the pool until it's at least 85.... I prefer 90!
That's not a pool - it's a hottub!
...And to think I've gone windsurfing during snowstorms...
JRC2010 04-19-2006, 08:32 PM As my brother (stevencrosbie) has posted, the house I live in is big and in texas (electric bill = $). Yesterday, it posted a record temp. over 100 degrees. i would take 70 degrees any day.
stiller fan 04-20-2006, 09:04 AM welcome aboard, crosbie #2!!!
this place is very addicting, btw, so watch out..... :lmao:
princess 04-20-2006, 09:39 AM Nah, hot tubs are 105!!! :D The kids do complain when the pool is anything over 90. So I have to turn the pump off or by-pass the roof when that happens. Sure makes night swimming nice though!!!
Welcome, JRC2010 or crosbie 2!!
princess 04-20-2006, 05:30 PM I planted deep purple & light purple petunias in the front yard today. Fed all the plants. Put out the snail bait.
It's all cloudy now.... :thumbsdow They still claim we may only get a brief shower or two Friday & Saturday, then warm back up.
Pool was 74 today. I need to take the old cover off the roller & make it ready for the new one. (the dogs ate it last year)
The puppy (Rella) has decided she likes to chew & pull up the new sod. Bad puppy!!!
The pond has polywogs!! The 2 tiny frogs that were singing away so happily that they disrupted my sleep were pretty busy little critters!! Tomorrow I'm putting fish in it!! Hopefully they'll eat the polywogs!!
stiller fan 04-21-2006, 08:57 AM i heard reports of baseball to GRAPEFRUIT sized hail in texas yesterday.....
that type of hail kills...... :(
stiller fan 04-21-2006, 08:58 AM and btw, in LEAD, SD, they have had 76 inches of snow since the beginning of the month..... saw that on TWC this mrng.....
in 60's there today, btw..... :screwy: :lmao:
welcome to spring....
stiller fan 04-21-2006, 08:59 AM btw, the tops on those thunderstorms in texas were at 70,000 feet..... the normal boomer is around 30k-40k feet, with severe ones approaching, but not normally surpassing, 50-60k foot range.....
SSMV6 04-21-2006, 09:12 AM i heard reports of baseball to GRAPEFRUIT sized hail in texas yesterday.....
that type of hail kills...... :(
Stiller, wrong thread! :D Shouldn't this be in the winter thread? :lmao:
Hail is scary! I'm so glad we don't get much in Boston.
stevencrosbie 04-21-2006, 11:10 AM Yeah, my best friend from home had his truck hit w/ hail.....it was totaled b/c of all the body damage...he's looking for a new truck....
72 degrees today and no clouds in they here at the Air Force Academy.....
princess 04-21-2006, 06:13 PM Kids are nuts!!!! Two generations of craziness!
First, last night my daughter #3 decided she missed the nieces & nephew from kid #1 (the bi-polar one) & headed off to Fresno at 7pm. She got there about 10:30. The talked for the first time in months & she came home with the 8 year old niece.
Then this morning that grand daughter wanted to swim. Mind you the clouds did come they predicted. We managed to put her off until after the boys got out of school.
THEY ALL WENT SWIMMING!!! The water was 71....burr. The air was mid 60's...more burr.....
stiller fan 04-21-2006, 06:26 PM sounds like me and my family... :lmao:
princess 04-21-2006, 06:33 PM Ahhh, so your bunch is brain damaged too??!! :lmao:
stiller fan 04-21-2006, 06:38 PM nah, it's genetic IRT going on random trips....
one time before i was born, my mother and grandmother went for a drive out to eat, ended up 4 hours away on other side of state....
another time, went to ocean city, md, and ended up in NC on the outer banks...... those waves were killer too..... :paranoid: got slammed a few times into the sand..... ouch! but still fun though.......
it's definitely genetic
heck, i went to atl cty last friday night (afer midnight, mind you, random drive there), came back sat mrng, then went down to DE for aftn and came back..... :lmao:
princess 04-21-2006, 06:52 PM My genes have one that randomly travels too. My mom has been really bad about that. It made for an interesting childhood in that area.
We did lots of stuff on a whim of hers.
I don't like being cold....especially cold & wet.
stiller fan 04-21-2006, 07:06 PM try me..... :D
princess 04-26-2006, 06:07 PM I have Spring Fever so bad today!!! After my trip to DMV, I mowed & enjoyed being outside!! It's in the mid 70's with a promise to go up another 10 over the next few days!!!!!
stiller fan 04-26-2006, 06:17 PM i have nothing of the sort, have been sick since sunday.... :thumbsdow
princess 04-26-2006, 06:45 PM a cold virus??? There's been one going around here. It hit My prince, Crystle, Nicholas & Jacob. It skipped me, Jarrison & Hunter though!!
princess 04-27-2006, 09:41 PM Tomorrow our lighted bricks are supposed to arrive. We're bricking the area near the pond's new location. It will give another spot for a table for the swim parties we seem to have every year.
One's planned for the second Sunday in June this year to celebrate 3 (maybe 4) birthdays all at once. The 1st, two on the 8th & the 13th. The maybe is depending on whether or not the oldest grand daughter is here. She's the other 8th.
We'll be putting the bricks in Mother's Day weekend.
Today the pool broke 80!! It's now covered so it heats up quicker & cools down less at night. :D
Our air temps may hit 90 tomorrow!!
RTexasF 04-28-2006, 05:26 AM We're already harvesting tomatoes and green beans from plants we put in last month! The birds have eaten all of the avocados :furious: but the bell peppers are just a few days away from being harvested. Peas are newer but they'll be ready soon as will the cucumbers and squash.
Onions started off great then they all croaked?! Don't know what happened there??
Nothing going with the watermelon other than the vine crawling everywhere.
Oh, the lime tree has a great crop growing too. The largest is about golf ball size. There's other stuff my little farmer gal has planted that are doing well I just can't remember what they are.
Most of this is being grown above ground in earth boxes....I might just sell the tiller, I haven't even started it since we bought these a few years ago.
princess 04-28-2006, 08:43 AM Wow! That's really ahead of schedule! My tomato plant is still only about 8" tall & just starting out. The Wisteria was about a month late since we had no sunshine! Things are perking up this week. I don't think we'll break 90 today though. Our "natural A/C" has kicked in a little, meaning the breezes are coming from the east (delta). I think we'll stay in the mid 80's & that's fine for now. I may actually have to start using the sprinkler systems!! :D
Our oranges ripen in the Winter.... so they're budding now. They smell heavenly!! The roses are blooming too, but they go nearly all year round here. I think maybe those few bees did their job!! I've seen some baby cherries!! No plums though. I think the cold made them forget to blossom. :dunno:
I used to have all sorts of peppers in redwood boxes. I put a flowering plant in each one for color... the flowers took over & now there's no room for peppers. I still have some of the skiiny red ones that I dried from then.
I'm off to Lowes today. I'm adding rocks to the bottom of the pond. Since I killed all the fish, I'm starting over. I was so proud that 19 of the 20 little fish I put in were still alive. Then I thought the pond needed cleaning. The new filter isn't as good as the one the dogs ate. So I did what I've done for years.... drained it 2/3s & refilled. Apparently there's lots of clorine this time of year 'cuz there were bodies floating the next morning. Opps! :paranoid:
princess 05-01-2006, 07:51 PM The offical word is that crops here are 5 weeks behind schedule...um, duh! :)
Today I went in the pool for the first time this season!! Water was 86-87. Burr.... :lmao:
princess 05-31-2006, 11:24 AM Spring is BACK this week!!!
We're supposed to have a bunch of people here on Sunday afternoon for a pool party.... birthday celebrations. I've been really hoping the weather would cooperate!! It looks like mid 80's for the rest of the week & 90 for the weekend!!
I'm gonna kill Rella!! She keeps eating the plants I put in!! There's only 2 left around the pond now!
princess 03-06-2007, 12:28 PM It seems like Spring is here!!!!
Although our temps are only in the mid 60's to low 70's the sun is out, the flowers are happy & I hear sneezing everywhere I go!!! :D
SSMV6 03-06-2007, 12:36 PM Spring came and gone for me this week... It hit 55 this weekend, but now, it's a nice, and toasty 12.4 (yes, Fahrenheit) degrees outside! :lmao:
thesteve151 03-06-2007, 12:37 PM 66 degrees in whitehouse texas
not a cloud in sight.
makes me wonder why i am inside on my computer  :(
Tue. it will be 70, and wed. it will be 71 :)
stiller fan 03-06-2007, 02:46 PM it was 10 here in pitt last night, with 2-4 inches of snow expected tonight.... then, mind 50's by the wknd....
James.uk 03-06-2007, 03:37 PM 54 f in England today. very sunny, but still a bit early to be very warm here.
.
Ramon 03-06-2007, 03:44 PM The weather has been so nice in San Bruno that even the gophers have been poking their heads out of their holes in our front yard. Good thing our neighbor had their dog tied down; He would have welcomed them in his own way.
EXLNavi 03-07-2007, 07:33 AM We got snow here today in joisey.
It took me 3 hours to get to work instead of 45 minutes!
And I almost ran off a jughandle. They plowed the road but forgot the jughandles!
Temp was between 14 and 17.
I want spring already!
princess 03-07-2007, 09:06 AM We have to drive up to Santa Rosa today to consult a surgeon..... my clean car will likely get some drizzle on it!!
It's just supposed to get a little cloudy here..... high at 68. The only chance of rain seems to be in the direction we're headed! :thumbsdow
Ramon 03-07-2007, 12:26 PM And I almost ran off a jughandle. They plowed the road but forgot the jughandles!
When we first encountered New Jersey's jughandles during a vacation a couple of years ago, I had no idea what they were .... Closest thing we have to them in the SF Bay Area would be some of the freeway off-ramps. On major surface streets, we either have left-turn lanes, or if you're in certain parts of San Francisco, you make a left turn by executing three right turns around the block! No wonder we have so much traffic on the streets. :D
EXLNavi 03-07-2007, 01:17 PM For U-turns they're good. I know one guy who almost died in an accident caused by someone improperly making a "regular" U-Turn.
A jughandle would have avoided that.
stiller fan 03-07-2007, 01:57 PM here's some more spring weather for you:
woke up this mrng to 2 inches of snow in pitt, and i still had to drive to work to be there by 130 EST.....
it took me 5 hours to drive to philly this mrng/aftn.... the entire PA turnpike was bad, with few exceptions..... there also were sections for about 45 miles that were closed earlier due to wrecks..... :paranoid:
thesteve151 03-07-2007, 05:16 PM still sunny and no clouds here :D 74 the rest of the week and no rain or clouds in site. i will wax my car on Friday  anyone try that liquid turtle wax yet?
SSMV6 03-07-2007, 06:01 PM anyone try that liquid turtle wax yet?
Nope.. still working to deplete my supply of waxes... I have 3 bottles of Black Magic Synthetic wax I'm probably not going to use, a bottle of Zymol, a pint of Wet Paint, 1/2 a bottle of 3M wax, and a whole bunch of leftover waxes, polishes and little bottles that came with the clay kits here and there...
thesteve151 03-07-2007, 06:12 PM so what has worked the best in you opinion?
i need a good wax that dose not cost way to much.
SSMV6 03-08-2007, 09:42 AM so what has worked the best in you opinion?
i need a good wax that dose not cost way to much.
I certainly haven't tried all the waxes out there, but of the ones I tried, I hated the Black Magic's synthetic wax with a passion.. Hard to put on, hard to take off, buffing required for a good shine... :puke: I wouldn't have gotten it if they weren't free after rebate and now that I've tried it, I wouldn't buy it even if you paid me! :D
I used to like NuFinish liquid (tie for second)... but I haven't used it since I got 3 bottles of Zymol for $4 each during a Target clearance. NuFinish is a great polish if you have a contaminants in the paint and you don't want to clay your car or if the paint doesn't require clay. It's easy to apply, take off, and lasts for a month or more. On top of all this, it's cheap! It's about $6 for a 16oz bottle.
Zymol (my personal favorite) is pretty good all around. It's also easy to apply, remove and it leaves a better shine than NuFinish. This wax (shine) lasts about a month or two. The drawback of Zymol is it's price... It's about $13 for a 16 oz bottle, but it makes up for that by being readily available in most stores that carry automotive care products.
The latest product I tried was Wet Paint Glaze (tie for second). It's the easiest to apply, and remove, but it's also the hardest to use if you're into detailing every last inch on the car.... Because the product is dispensed via an "air-o-sol" dispenser, it will get into every nook and cranny in your car (door jambs, body gaps, rubber and vinyl trim, etc). The shine lasts about two months, but it's expensive and you can only order it through the mail.
Some of the other waxes I've heard good things about but haven't used are Klasse All-in-One, Zaino, and P21S.
princess 03-08-2007, 12:06 PM We're having several different temp readings right now.... the "official" one for here, which is down by the water is only 54..... My backyard is 64 & my front yard is 67..... :dunno: After just being outside.... I'm thinking the backyard is the closest to real life!
thesteve151 03-08-2007, 01:01 PM thanks SSMV6 i will give zymol wax a try.
it is so nice here i have been riding around with my windows down all day.
it looks the same for all next week too. :)
faderrific 03-08-2007, 01:11 PM It's 85 degrees here. One of the only things I love about Southern California.
stiller fan 03-08-2007, 01:16 PM 30F here.....
SSMV6 03-08-2007, 07:41 PM thanks SSMV6 i will give zymol wax a try.
it is so nice here i have been riding around with my windows down all day.
it looks the same for all next week too. :)
NP. Now back on track...
We're going to break the record today! The last time it was this cold in Boston was in 1943 at 8 degrees F. We're currently at 9F and it's not even 11pm yet! :blah:
The good news is, it's supposed to be 50+ the beginning of next week and 60+ near the end of the week! :screwy:
EXLNavi 03-09-2007, 06:56 AM Where I live is 5-7 degrees colder than the (new york) city. My house is about 800ft ASL and the ski slopes are nearby. Brrrr.
It was 15 this morning when I left then it was 23 when I pulled in to the parking lot at work an hour later...
I am looking forward to 50 degree temps this weekend! I want to walk my 6 acres of land. :naughty:
stiller fan 03-14-2007, 01:11 PM so, it's pushing 80 in philly right now....
btw, rain/snow for philly friday night and saturday.....
gotta love spring....
ps: i think that the issue that i talked about last week is the main fuel relay.... it started fine this mrng, but didn't want to start after sitting in sun for 2 hours..... :)
princess 03-14-2007, 01:55 PM We went back down to the mid 60s today after being near 80 for a few days....
*sigh*
It's supposed to be about 80 here for Friday & Saturday.
We'll be at Disneyland where they had 90s last week, but they cooled down to the low 80s now. Perfect for waiting in lines! I think I'd melt if I didn't get a little while of some Spring stuff before going into Summer!! If we hit 100 in April, it usually means little or no Summer. We did that for 2 years now! A 5 weeks Summer isn't enough!!
thesteve151 03-15-2007, 12:28 AM ps: i think that the issue that i talked about last week is the main fuel relay.... it started fine this mrng, but didn't want to start after sitting in sun for 2 hours..... :)
one time when it won't start check for spark. if you have spark then it is probably the PGM-FI main relay. (is that what you are calling the fuel relay?)
if there is no spark then it is probably the Ignition control module (ICM) AKA: "igniter"
just remember the plug has to be grounded to test for spark.
as for the weather, it has been raining on and off for the past few days, but it looks nice for the next few days. (around 70F)
stiller fan 03-15-2007, 01:00 PM here's some spring weather for you......
yesterday: high of 78F
today: falling temps, with rain mixing with snow overnight..... flooding possible
friday: rain/snow mix
friday night: rain/snow changing to all snow, heavy at times..... 3-5 inches expected?????
you know the winter's been bad when a spring storm drops more snow than most of the storms since december.....
princess 04-19-2007, 05:50 PM We didn't even break 60 today... :thumbsdow At least the winds died down.
This is my first black iris of the season. We've had some sunny days....they've just been too mild to suit me. (black irises are a deep purple. The buds look black, then lighten to purple as they open. The flash made it look purple-er than it does in real life)
princess 04-19-2007, 05:53 PM this shot has a more realistic color :)

I've been doing my best to get browned before Maui. The weather hasn't made that easy! So today I'll lay at the pool while the boys swim. They have 2 more days of school, but they're short days.
