mod rules....

ok so I spent a few hours on cardomain last night and just need to get a few things off my chest

for starters I personally like a "stock" looking car, by "stock" I dont specificly mean as is from factory but along the lines of what Chip Foose says, that the car is moddified but doesnt look like it. basically simple and clean.

the rules

1) if your on a budget, wait till you have a little more money and do it right, if you dont like your wheel, dont go buy a set of wheel covers with the fake drilled/slotted rotors, you're not fooling anyone and they look like crap. 3 in. exaust tips also fit here, we all know that even your V6 wont make use of a 3 in exaust, and the tips usually just look cheep.

2) over all interior, I know everyone has their own tastes and not all of us agree that something looks good, I cant tell you what to do, but please take carfull consideration in your color combos, and when picking whick parts to accent etc. Prints (ie leopard, zebra) just dont do, they dont go with anything else and if you do the whole car in print its just too much.

3) chrome, why do people have a fettish with putting chrome EVERYWHERE? those crappy imitation chrome trim peices you can get at pepboys, arent ment to be bought in bulk and put on every single edge of every sinle peice of sheet metal on you entire car!
-while we're on the topic of chrome, if you have gold emblems, dont mix in siver accents, and visaversa. I personally have never likes the gold/silver combo, and every one i know agrees it just doesnt look good.

4)identity crisis, So many people especially in the honda comunity are guilty of this offense. type-R, Si-R, VTEC...these should ONLY be on your car if it true. now theres 2 ways to accomplish this, buy a type-R or what have you (in that case your not lying), or, do a full conversion, if you take your civic DX, and replace everything in it with everything type-R, then it has become a type-R (so to speak) and is therefore acceptable (at least I thinkn so). same goes with the VTEC badge, unless you motor has Variable Timing electronic lift control, get that VTEC badge off your car. there are also those who put a type-R badge on a USDM gen 6 accord, sorry they dont exist, please remove. Now what about those eclipses, corollas, etc that according to the badges have a VTEC angine? VTEC is a Honda only thing and we should only be seing them on HONDAS (that have VTEC technology). now this brings me to my next point.....

5) identity crisis contd, this is probably my biggest pet peave. example a few years ago I was at work and a little red car pulled up that had honda badges, a honda decal in the rear window, and in big letters across the hood.... HONDA. But was this a honda you ask, well it must be the new model called the honda storm. WTF? If you have a geo why would you put honda logos all over it? your not fooling anyone and you just look like an idiot. moreover you disgrace to honda name by putting them on you POS geo. then theres the honda owner who put the bmw badges all over his accord (its in the galleries forum here, im sure many of you know exaclty what car Im talking about) again I ask you WTF??? I know many of you are with me on this, I , or my car rather, wears those Honda logos with great pride, if your going to do that you dont deserve your honda.

6) rims, there are thousands of styles from probably hundreds of manufaturers to choose from, choose wisely. bigger isnt always better 20s on a civic WAY TO BIG, spinners may be cool but they're just tacky on your car (and spinner wheel covers, 'nuff said), and then there're those that are just plain ugly, they may look cool on the showroom wall, but not on any car. this is an area where simple is a good thing.

7) ground effects/body kits, I cant give people crap for getting a really agressive body kit just cuz I dont like them, but make sure it goes with your car. if you do a body kit do the whole car dont just replace the bumpers, or even worse, just one. also if your gonna get a kit make sure you can afford to paint it when your gonna put it on, I hate seeing a car with a nice kit that hasnt been painted yet, espcially if its the same car over and over for months on end.

8) random external mods. there are many that fit here that wont get listed or that Im not thinking of but to name a few...
-the shaved, moved, and ****ed, rear liscense plate. I understand it get more points at a show but it looks horrible. and people dont like to **** thier heard to the side to read your plates
-the wing, this is the most common thing around here. unless your car is rear wheel drive and you race at high speeds you dont need that much downforce on the back wheels, and especially when the rest of your car is stock, they look stupid. another rule of thumb, your spoiler is higher than the roof of your car, please get rid of the basket handles. If you put a spoiler on your car make sure its the same color as your car.
Tail lights-when you cut out a couple of cirlces, tape then to your tail lights, and paint then with spray paint so all you have is a few tiny circles in the back for your bake lights to show through, its not only ugly but its not safe(well for those who do them so small), they look so much better stock than pinted.

9) priority, for those of you who done up your car and then got in an accident this does not apply) If your door is smashed in, bumpers missing, have rust all over the place, paint missing/missmatched, or what have you, use your money to fix your car, dont go putting $2000 rims on a car thats all jacked up, its not gonna make your car look good, when it didnt look good to begin with. Fix your car THEN fix it up.

10) hood scoops- ONLY IF FUCTIONAL!

11) and I know we have all seen this, once your crappy tint job starts bubling and pealing so us all a favor and just get rid of it, it looks horrible.

:stupid:

ok I cant think of anything else right now but feel free to ad on.
thanks for listening to my rant, and happy modding, or those that apply, happy keeping stock.

This is about the most that I'll ever do, as far as 'modifying' goes:

I was on the fence about the tail lights, but they did give the rear end a fresher look.

:lmao: The original color of my 96 was frost white, but I had her painted in Cadillac's exclusive white gold pearl when she rolled 160,000 trouble-free miles. :D

Im completely aware of this, actually i wasnt implying that at all. I like the fact that most people in these furums have a good head on their shoulders, and also nice and friendly.

heres an accord i like (at least the shots on the first page, when he added the clears, welll just dont like it as much.)

There was a little orange peel, but nothing worse than what would have been in a factory paint job. In any case, that was no Maaco job... I paid good money to have it done right.
