SilverTT 04-16-2006, 02:55 PM I just found an AD on craigslist for a 99 Accord (model not specified) 2-door with a 4cyl engine. The asking price is for $6,900 with 80K miles and it has a 5-speed manual transmission which I perefer. Could anyone hear give me some feedback or opinions especially from long-term owners? Thanks in advance....
ItsaHonda 04-16-2006, 03:14 PM What happened to the 96 LX?
SilverTT 04-16-2006, 03:39 PM Dealer did not take my offer....
ItsaHonda 04-16-2006, 03:59 PM Everything that was said about the 96, pretty much applies to the 99 as well. Mechanically, they are very similar. Going with a 6th gen, you'll benefit from a larger interior, newer body design, better structural rigidity (thanks to a new platform) and slightly better performance (especially w/ the 5-spd.) Rattles tend to be more of an issue in the 6th gens than they were in previous generations and the clock light bulb has a tendency to blow out. Otherwise, I can't think of anything else. Perhaps Ben can chime in, as he ownes a 99 Accord w/ the 4-cyl. and 5-spd.
BenjiBoy650 04-16-2006, 05:45 PM - If you test drive it check the 2nd, 3rd and 5th gear syncros, they seem to go out first (5th gear has a TSB out for a shift fork out of alignment)
- 2 door had no DX model, so your engine is a F23A1 VTEC = 150HP
- If it matters, the V6 has 5 lug wheels and the I4 has 4 lug wheels.
- Common rattles are from the moonroof, center console area and right front dash by the door.
- LX has drums in the rear, EX has discs (again donno if it makes a difference).
- Listen for a clunking noise from the front suspension - common problem with swaybar endlinks and bushings.
- Ask about timing belt and water pump, manual says 105K or 7 years I think.
Otherwise pretty good deal. My 99 sedan was $7200 back in Aug 2003 w/ 108K.
SilverTT 04-16-2006, 07:21 PM Thank you all for your input.....I got a call back from the person who posted the AD (who is supposedly located in the suburbs) and found out that it is a car from a used-car sales lot from the city (located in a bad neighborhood). He does not know what maintenance or have any records of the car. The seller was misleading since the picture was take in a neighborhood and the location was in a suburb close to me. I think I will pass on this one... :dunno:
BenjiBoy650 04-16-2006, 07:24 PM Probably a good idea...
I found that on Craigslist it's hit or miss. Most of the cars are either 1) outrageously priced 2) misleading ("no dents" except that one on the rear door when you got t-boned, etc) 3) both or 4) gone by the time they get back to you. My car came from Craigslist, ad was up at 7PM, I got an appt to see the car by 9PM that night, and cash was traded the next night around 6. I found a Maxima for sale that I wanted but it was gone in three hours. I check Craigslist probably 5-10 times a day
You should probably also check a CarFax for any car you buy now, after all those flood damage and salvage cars come out of the South, all hell will break loose.
Accord4Life 04-16-2006, 07:33 PM I love my 6th gen. It's an LX 5spd, but its been upgraded to some extent. a.k.a. No Drums in the back, alloy wheels, leather, CD changer etc. I think you'll like a 6th gen if you get one. Im not sure about this, but all the EX's I drove of the 6th gen seemed to have more rattles than the LX, but none are even close to my mothers Sable :lmao: now that's a rattling piece of crap.
Good Luck!
Mike

Hahaha...so true....excellent condition except for the missing paint on the back bumper the million scratches on the dashboard that look like a raccon got in the car.

I definitely agree, I have 22 days left and hope to find a car soon. I had some owners act like they did not know that it was in an accident, carfax has been very helpful..
