A local tire chain is touting the use of nitrogen (you get it when you buy a set of tires, of course). Looks interesting. Anyone using it? Check out http:www.belletire.com for more info.

Go for helium - it lightens the load
...even better - try neon and light 'em up! :naughty:

Are you sure it is not 76.2349874654738929384548738394858394848% nitrogen? :jumping:

Putting pure nitrogen into your tires isn't worth the $5/tire charge. I got a air compressor with a tank for $25 and I could pump up the tires whenever I want! :D

In other words no, no one here has done that yet.

My company was trying to market air separation equipment for tires several years ago. Not sure we are into any more. But here is what they used to say:
"Nitrogen has been used as a tire inflatant for years in commercial and military aircraft, space shuttle transport vehicles, race cars, earthmoving and mining equipment, and other applications where tires are subject to unusual stress.
According to the Department of Transportation, roughly 80 percent of this nation's vehicles have tires that are underinflated. Underinflation impacts tire life, fuel mileage, and road handling.
Nitrogen is a superior tire inflatant because it diffuses through tire rubber 30-40 percent slower than oxygen. As a result, proper tire pressure is maintained for a much longer period of time. Nitrogen further extends tire life because it is a clean, moisture-free gas which significantly reduces internal tire oxidation and wheel corrosion caused by wet compressed air. An improvement of only five percent in tire life for the vehicles on the road today would also have a positive impact on the environment--resulting in at least 10 million fewer tires to dispose of per year."

agree. all race car use nitrogen since it provide a very stable tire pressure even after a crazy race.

I've used nitrogen to inflate tires for around 3-4 years now. There's never been any problem, in fact it is better because I have to inflate my tires less frequently. As comparison, I used to inflate my tires every other day, now I inflate them every 3 weeks.

dude you have a hole in your tires.

no, just precautionary. because it's very cheap, just 10 cent for inflating once with regular gas compressor. and it's $1 for every nitro inflation. :D

Hey inflating your tires every other day for 10 cents a day adds up. I don't know what you done to them but inflating them every other day isn't really the way to go...

just to make sure the pressure is maintained. But I don't do that anymore since I switch to nitro. The cars are in Indonesia, the temperature and road conditions makes it safer to check tire pressure often. :) Now I'm in US, I haven't check my tire pressure since I got the car.

all costco chains(stores..whatever) only use nitrogen. :dunno: makes you think its the new pattern. yes, an expensive one, but hey that's why you didn't buy a camry.

This was discussed over at the Toyota 4Runner Forums (www.t4r.org [see sig ;) ] ) and they concluded that the only benefit might be not having to inflate your tires as much. and not really worth the cost. See thread here: http://www.toyota-4runner.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=19573&highlight=Nitrogen
