It's happened! I have to admit an imperfection in my car!! It has began that pesky slow crank thing. It's VIN isn't on the list! Thank goodness for it happening when she's still new! It's probably still the same thing as the others, fuel regulator.

Is it turning over slow or slow to fire up???
Just asking due to turning over slow seems like electrical or starter issue.. unless fuel getting in cylinders creating a Hydrolock condition????
I know Honda definitions of problems are a little diff......

It just goes nan nan nan a few extra times before it actually starts. They call it a slow crank. It starts right most of the time, this just began. Prince laughed at me because it had done it for him & he was hoping I wouldn't notice. We came out from seeing a movie yesterday & it did it for him with me in the car. I'd heard it a couple of times when I was alone too. It fits the desription on the bulletin. It's just 10K past the VIN on the list. They'll probably add more after I get it fixed. I haven't even broke 5K on my mileage!!:bawling:

Let me correct..... the proper term is "long" crank...... It's getting an appointment today. The fuel regulator.....same as if it had a lower VIN.

Oh yeah it's true it's true. Ford made the instrument cluster, I've seen the logo haha. The part number is recognized by Ford too I believe.
My car takes a long time to start, but I can't complain. The hydrometer reads insufficient charge.
I guess when picky people like Princess owns a Honda, they complain about long crank. Then you have people like Mercedes M-Class owners. Like ours, the one that started rattles at 1000 miles, cracking leather, LCD screens that turn off for no real reason, CD changer that works only when it wants to...but we're lucky. Ours didn't have some of what the others had: bad welds, not starting, engine dying on the freeway, loss of power steering, etc etc. Amazing for a $40K+ car.

OK, now I'll have to change cars! :joker:
I really dont like the idea of Ford parts! They let them slip by with too high of a failure rate! Hondas is at .04%, Fords, last time I heard was .7%. There's way too many parts for that rate!
And just the thought of Ford stuff in my car. It just plain makes me queasy!! :(

I've never heard of an instrument cluster fail...well except in the M-Class :D Anyways it's not a big deal, there's plenty of 6th gen clusters on sale on eBay if it does break haha.

She's getting all fixed up on Monday. We have to wait on parts. He'll do it at home because there's really no parking at work & doesn't want to hear me scream if she gets a ding from the "lot lizzards". I've heard WAY too many stories about what has happened there!

I'm still mad at those damn kids working at Autobahn Motors (Mercedes). Screwing with the ML320's radio/equalizer and driving it all rough and crap, not setting the E-brake after parking on a hill :censored: :censored: :censored: I hope not all dealers are like that.
Hope all goes well with the regulator. Should I be worried about mine?

I wonder how the 7th gen tranny is going to hold up. I was just thinking about why all the minivan trannies go so fast, figures because its high HP and heavy weight, putting a lot of stress on it. Figure that the new Accord with more HP and 300 or so more pounds IIRC, might be the same scenario, maybe a bit better.

Last night the little pieces in the fuel relay system were replaced. So I shouldn't have anymore extra nan, nan, nans when starting up sometimes!:D
If just replacing the pieces end up not solving them problem (it was still intermitted, so I won't know right off) then he'll replace the whole thing. If that happens I'll be sure to post it, so others will know.
Maybe they didn't use those icky Ford parts in the 7th gens. I can only hope! I'll just keep telling myself that it's only a rumor!!;)

I looked at a a 2001 Vette about 4 months ago and the owner was bashing Imports... I didn't hesitate to point out that all the glass in his Vette was produced by AP Tech(Honda owns)...
Same rating standard as in my 02..... Bruhahahaha......
Of course he changed subject quickly......
Moral of story= Manufacturers will build with whomever's parts if price and quality meet their needs....

AP is a Honda Company? I didn't know that!
But FORD parts in my Honda...... I breaks my little heart! They're just soooo icky! I'm going to just think of as a rumor until I see it on MY car. Even pictures won't convince me, maybe they weren't made where mine was & they put different parts in!!:D I'm going to be decidedly stubborn on this one!
Realistically I know many products are all mixed up. But FORD...........

Is this all 7th gen, or V6 only?
Mine took a few more cranks to start up this morning, but to be fair it's been a bit colder than usual.
But I would like to know if this is normal or not.

Probably.. It was only 12 degrees this morning and it took an extra half a second to start up. It's normal unless it takes longer than 3 seconds to fire up (actually 1 second for Honda since they fire up right away ;) ). Had a problem with the long crank in my old car, but it's come and go and it never takes more than 3 seconds to start.
This is an aside, but don't you guys just love the old B and H series startup sound? They all have the trademark Honda sound to them for years. :) Now they are starting to sound like every other car on the market.

Not sure if it's the same, but I liked the starter in my 96 Accord (F22 engine) it was a familair (to me) Honda starter sound. It was always reassuring, and in 130k miles... it ALWAYS started right up. Even when my original battery was dying, it had just enough juice to crank the car over so I could get it to the parts store.

But the '05, cranks at full speed straight away, but takes longer to start?! The '93 ususlly starts as soon as you release the key..
It's annoying how it cranks so long...

I can ALWAYS tell its a Honda engine starting! It has that particular sound to it. Although I was bewildered when I heard one and it was a Saturn Vue, so I rushed home to find out that GM uses Honda V6's. Hah, go figure.

Yeah.. Only for the mid-'04s and later, though. The older V6 (~200hp) is still built by GM.
ItsaHonda
12-15-2005, 10:14 AM
It was a joint venture between Honda and GM that gave Honda the use of their diesels and GM the use of their 3.5 V6 for the Saturn Vue. This isn't the first time Honda and GM have crossed paths, GM owns a good chunk of Isuzu... the Rodeo/Passport had parts in it from all three. I'm not sure if Isuzu still rebadges the Accord as their Aska, but they did up until the 6th gen...
On a similar note, the Chevy Nova (the econo-box from the 80s) Geo/Chevrolet Prizm, and Pontiac Vibe were all Toyota Corollas.

I wouldn't call the CR-V an SUV.. It's built off the Civic platform. It's more like a large Civic wagon! :lmao: It is a lot better now since it's been around for a few years and is starting to stray away from its Civic roots.

The first gen Isuzu Aska was a rebadged Subaru Legacy. Beginning in 1994, it became a rebadged Honda Accord.. and was up until the 6th gen that I know of. I don't know if the Aska is still in production.

I definitely know the Honda starter sound! I do agree that the 7th-gen four-cylinders don't sound quite like most other Hondas, but some of it's still there. The V6 sounds the most "Honda-like" imo.
It's a reassuring sound, though. Followed by a smooth-running engine. My Pontiac just sounded sick when I cranked it, and it was usually followed by the sound of the engine rattling. :thumbsdow

Forgot to mention the first Honda minivan was a rebadged Isuzu Oasis. Is Isusu even still around these days? (hypothetical question ;) ) You never hear about them or see their cars on the road any more.
ItsaHonda
12-21-2005, 09:17 PM
Actually, the Isuzu Oasis was a rebadged 1st gen Odyssey, as the Ody was based on the 5th generation Accord. Honda used Isuzu's Rodeo for their SUV, while Isuzu used Honda's Odyssey for their van. Isuzus are still around, but they only make SUVs and a mid-size truck based on the GM Colorado/Canyon pickups. The Isuzu Ascender (their largest SUV) is a rebadged Chevrolet Trailblazer/GMC Envoy, etc.
