I EVEN FOUND A CAT IN IT! :)

I'm not sure why she wanted to be in the picture; she's just a freak.. she sleeps in my bathroom sink...

Does your car have two filters? It was time, that's for sure!

6th gen's have two filters but they're half the size of the 7th gen's.

My wife would kill me if she saw a picture of that on the carpet! Looks like a good thing to keep an eye on and keep changed.

Yeah I freaked out when my new carpet first got dirty.. house had just finished getting built, I was painting the front room, took a break, heard a noise -- cat had jumped into the paint pan and ran through the entire house, paint on the carpet in front room, hallway, tile, master bedroom, master bath, and a table.

So I figure I'll never be able to top that mess; couple of filters won't hurt =p

I think I should do the same. I just bought a '01 coup and the car stinks when I use the fan or air conditioner. Would like to replace it myself (honda wants over $100 to do it)

Do you have any instructions?

Thanks
Tom

How often does Honda recommend you change the air filters? My manual is in the car and you guys are usually pretty quick to respond. Thanks!

I think it's 2 years 30K or thereabouts.

It's not hard to replace them on the 6th gen but there is one panel that people like to mess up on (There's a hidden screw but everybody thinks it's a clip...usually they end up with a cracked kick panel). There's a DIY on this forum somewhere.

http://www.troublecodes.net/articles/cabinair.shtml

Note that in this DIY, they left the bottom kick panel attached at the screw and just bent it out of the way. I prefer to take it off completely, but it requires taking off the panel that is below the radio headunit (in the little cubby space) to get to a screw. Since the panel does nothing, I left it off for easier access in the future.

on the bottom metal bar try using a #1 phillips bit instead of a #2 to loosen the screw that is near the center panel. i read many posts on other sites where people said they almost stripped the head because it was hard to loosen. It wasn't coming loose for me either until i used a #1 bit. It seemed to get deeper in the head of the screw and didn't take that much force to loosen. this diy definitely saves yourself a bunch of money.

Those filters can breed nasty, very nasty bacteria! so as well as keeping them clean get some anti bac spray and use it fairly often. They do make anti bac sprays just for car pollen filters, dunno what they call them in the USA though... :dunno:

Has anyone ever bought the Cabin Air Filters off ebay? I saw them going for $10.00 a pop.

I went thru and replaced the cabin filters on 3 of my Hondas this summer. The one on the '04 Pilot and the pair on the '04 Civic were awful - like the pics at the beginning of this thread. On a lark, I replaced the one on the '05 Accord after only 13k miles. it was just as bad. i was amazed at how much garbage and dirt these things filter out. I'm going to now start replacing them every year...

I bought from one of the eBay sellers - taht does Bosch filters - they were identical to the stock ones, and a bit cheaper...

How do you change them on 7th gens?

If you use the Recycle Air button on your AC, does that mean the climate control won't work since you are keeping the air in your car inside and recirculating it and not bringing in any (fresh)air from the outside or does the climate control continue to work and collect and trap dirt onto these filters?

Matt there is an entire thread dedicated to this in the Maintenance and Detailing forum. You will see it as a sticky at the top of the page.

I believe it's "Recirculate", not recycle... :-p

Mine had grass and leaves stuck in 'em, not as bad as those pics though

Yeah that damn last metal bar you have to remove is a PAIN IN THE A$$!!!!!!
WHY do they need those screws so tight?? I just bent the goddamm thing out the way

Mech. was gonna charge me $60 bones for that crap! NOPE THANK YOU, THOUGH!

$60 is about right. $20 for the filters and $40 for 1/2 hours labor? Dealer rip ya a new one for it...they're having a "special" for $120.

I just did this "procedure" on my friend's '98 accord. The hardest part was taking the glove compartment out. :) It's well worth the time to make sure you're breathing fresh air.

$20 to breathe fresh air?! Open the window!
