Just thought I would go over what I have done this weekend-
First off, my 1995 EX 4cyl 5spd with 143k miles needed it's original lower radiator hose replaced. I had heard it was a PITA and the lower clamp was tough to get to. I decided to try to tackle it anyway.
I took the plastic splash guard off. 10mm bolts and two phillips screws. This revealed the lower fitting and hose/clamp. I was able to use some needle nose pliers and a long straight blade screwdriver to get the clamp off the fitting and pushed up the hose. I then was able to take the screwdriver and push the hose off.
Replacement was easy enough, you just need to have someone on top to pull the hose back out if you have the clamp on too tight, change orientation, etc.
I then got it buttoned up, and re-filled with water to flush it. I couldn't get the rear engine coolant drain plug out, so I just emptied/filled a few times with water.
I refilled with HG Coolant. Didn't quite get 2 gallons in, but I will do a couple more drains/refills (ugggg with that $12 per gallon coolant) and try to get the strength to 90% or so.
Changed the oil and filter and I was done with that one.
Next up was the 2005 EX 4cyl 5AT. Dropped the ATF hot, refilled, drive 9 miles or so, dropped and refilled again. The first time the fluid was somewhat discolored, smelly, etc.
I didn't have the energy to do it 2 more times. I will do it again at 20k miles.
I talked to a service writer where I bought my fluids. I asked her what she was seeing the 05's in for and she said service only. No warranty work. Made me feel good. I asked her if she thought they had the transmission problems fixed and she said she thinks so and certainly hopes so.
