Is it possible to shift from neutral to reverse, while your car is moving forward ~30mph?

Are there any mechanism to prevent that from happening?

What kind of damages to transmission?

thanks

Um, well, you can *do* it, but since the Accord transmission is a mainshaft/countershaft setup (similar to a manual transmission that's shifted automatically), you'll either grind the gears or blow it up

If you do it make sure there is no traffic behind you and make sure to give it some gas. You will either rip a couple of teeth out of a gear or create big black smokin tire tracks.

I thought that there was a safty mechanism build in so that the only way that you could shift into reverse when over a certain forward speed was to depress the brake. I know this could still hurt the transmission. Is this not the case in newer accords...I only know on my old '95 (RIP) -- haven't tried it on the new ones.

Now that I think of it, I think you're right about the safety mechanism.....anyone wanna give it a try? :D
