Finally! Some progress...

Well, after reading posts on hypermiling, I finally gave it a try in my car. With my previous tank only producing 28.2 MPG :thumbsdow , I started hypermiling immediately. With a half-tank of gas, I was able to raise my mileage up to 30.4 MPG.

:headbash: Previous tank:
398.8 miles, 14.1 gallons = 28.2 MPG

:dude: Last tank:
401.2 miles, 13.2 gallons = 30.4 MPG

Right now, I am ecstatic about the increase. I suggest this to anyone  , and it is even kind of a fun challenge. I guess, I am just venting my happiness.

Hypermiling is a method of driving for extended miles per gallon.

Is that in the city?

That last tank was 70% HWY and 30% city.

I'd never heard of Hypermiling before so I had to google it...sounds interesting...but I don't really agree with a few people who stated that to properly hypermile you should travel 10-20mph below the posted speed limit.

In almost all cases were I would have been in an "at fault" accident have involved cars travelling on the 401 (freeway) at 100km/h or slower (when the general flow is around 120km/h if not faster).

I know from when breaking in my Accord...I found it really hard to do around 90km/h (I guess thats what...50mph?) even in the right most lane as it flowed at around 100km/h.

Conundrum,

It is a very interesting subject that seems to work  . However, I do not follow the 10-20 MPH difference in speed limit. I just stick around 65-70 MPH and it seems to work fine. Now that I have a full tank of gas, I wonder if I will be able to improve my gas mileage even more.

So, there's a name for it.
I used to call it driving in "economy mode".

I guess I must have a broken Gen7 6 speed. Last tank 30.5mpg. The warmer weather has helped tremendously.

Doing my usual commute, 20 miles each way, at a normal avg of 62.5 mph. Always exceed 80+ mph for several miles each day, with 3 instances of merging at or near wot in first three gears at one merge. Then at the other two, in 4th and 5th, then to 6th at 75 to 80.
