View Full Version : Sentimental Memories...
KJW73 05-03-2006, 12:14 PM Hello!
It's been a few months since I've posted to this site since I've traded in my Accord for the TL... but I wanted to pop in to say "hello" and share my experience, thus far.
Well. I miss my Accord (although not to the point I'd trade in the TL for another Accord, but I miss it). I miss it so much, I've been trying to wheel-n-deal with a co-worker to get one; even took him to the dealership to test drive it. Damn - I should've been a Honda saleswoman! hahaha. ;) This may sound sickening, but I would've liked to even know who it was sold to, where it is; just to make sure that someone is taking as much care of it as I did. Oh well - I have photographs and sentimental memories of my previous "baby". :D
What I miss the most about my 04 Accord is the 6MT shifting. Oh do I miss it! I can honestly say that the Accord coupe V6 6MT was the most fun car that I've driven (even doesn't compare to the 04 Mustang GT V8 my b/f just bought....no comparison in the feel). So, having said that - that is what I miss the very most; and the all black interior. Otherwise, everything in the TL is pretty much "Honda", so it was easy to adjust.
In closing...I just wish I were able to drive MT in everyday driving...
Hope that all is well with you and your ride(s)!
phoenix 05-03-2006, 01:18 PM Hope you're enjoying the TL, or as my father likes to call it, what the Accord wants to be when it grows up! :lmao:
JRC2010 05-03-2006, 02:38 PM Congrats on the TL!
If you don't mind me asking, why didn't you opt for the 6MT TL?
RTexasF 05-03-2006, 05:07 PM Our gal had some medical problems that deemed "No more clutch!" She didn't have much of a choice. (She misses her spike heels too!)
jermy4 05-03-2006, 06:54 PM Good to hear from you again. I would love to have a TL. Any problems with the car?

LOL! :lmao:
Yea, I do miss wearing higher heels!! I still have to wear them because I need the height (being only 5'1"); just can't be above 3". :D :lmao:
Miss chatting to you all on this site, too!
KJW73 05-04-2006, 06:50 AM Good to hear from you again. I would love to have a TL. Any problems with the car?
KNOCK-ON-WOOD...no problems so far. The only thing I've encountered was a rattle coming from the aluminum plate around the shifter; but my b/f took care of it by placing something so tiny under it. Haven't heard it since. But, apparently a few rattles are common with certain TL's?? :dunno:
The TL "goes", too but there always seems to be that one thing missing...the shifting. And I don't use the Sportshifter much (accept to downshift if I have to come to a halt) because I really am not quite sure if I'm doing it properly.
How is your Accord working out for you?
jermy4 05-04-2006, 07:00 AM It's great. The only issue I have is a couple of intermittent rattles. She just rolled 8K the other day. She's growing up so fast
stevencrosbie 05-13-2006, 01:24 AM I don't think I ever saw pictures of your TL.....did you post any?

I'm not getting the picture entirely about how the "most fun car you have ever driven" could be outweighed by constant shifting for daily driving but I do understand the disdain for the indispensible and obligatory shifting. Tell though, is where you live a problem like it is for me when it comes to shifting? I live in 4th biggest city(Houston) and on top of that, there is perpetual and constant construction on freeway and regular roads that cause traffic congestion and lots of stop and go traffic. So you have a mild or major case of this situation where you live or was it not this at all. Could it be that everything was basically normal but that you just couldn't shift constantly from point A to point B and C and D and so on.. Also too, perhaps you like to focus on other things while you drive or even do other things while you drive like cell phone, read stuff, play with cds etc that cause such an obstruction with daily shifting..? I am curious because I thought about a 5 spd but knew the shifting would get to me on a daily basis.

I know where my 96 Accord is and that it's being very well taken care of. I sold it to a friend of the family (It's his first car) He works at a car wash, so it stays pretty clean! Sometimes, however, it's best NOT to know where it went and just remember it the way it was when you sold it.

Don't I know it. I used to have a manual transmission '89 Prelude that I gave to my younger brother. Within months he had trashed it, put a couple of dents it the car (it was black with tan cloth interior) and ultimately failed to wash or wax it over a 2-3 year period. After that, he got a new car and sold it to a next door neighbor's kid. The kid proceeded to trash it even further, putting his "band" stickers all over the rear end and ultimately totaling it while trying to race someone down a causeway. The kid walked away without a scratch, whereas the car... :bawling:

man..even though it wasn't yours any longer thats still rough...if I ever sell off my Accord it has to go to someone I know will take very good care of it, or someone I will never see again (out of sight, out of mind)...I couldn't imagine seeing it get trashed in the driveway next door/a few doors down...
SSMV6 05-17-2006, 02:26 PM If you're really curious about your old Accord, and still have the VIN number, run a carfax report on it. I've tried running a carfax report on my old car, but I'm not curious enough to pay for the full report. :blah: All I know is, the car either changed hands twice in the past year or it went to an auction. :dunno:

They're not the best pics in the world; but it gives you a general idea...

I do live in a highly congested capital region and it takes me about 45-minutes or so to go 7-miles to work on a straight path (due to the influx of people from the burbs going into the city to work). I am a woman (just to get that out there...) and wear heels and especially high ones in my twenties, which then caused my foot to become f***ed up; so now after a few nerve surgeries on my clutch foot nonetheless...I had to decide is it worth driving a manual (as I've driven ALL of my life except the TL) and continually irritate my damaged foot by constantly having to put pressure on the clutch (which would spur off unimaginable cramps) or finally humble myself into an automatic? So I became humble and upgraded. It's still a pain in the ass to drive in bumper-to-bumper traffic, people with fanatic road rage, idiots who can't find the gas pedal, yada, yada, yada... However, the TL manuevers just fine in and out of the daily craziness and I'm now comfortable with the automatic - although, without the Sportshifter, I don't know how comfortable I'd be. I need to have that "feel" like I have "some" control of the car (e.g. downshifting). :D
Also - I'm a very conscious driver and very aware of my surroundings; I have no choice. Otherwise, I'm setting myself up to be rear-ended or me rear-end someone; you have to be alert to what's going on in our traffic (as probably most). People are forever trying to sqeeeze into your lane; even if you leave an inch and a half between you and another car...it's inevitable that someone will try to nudge their way in. There are "BEWARE OF AGGRESSIVE DRIVING" signs (electronic and aluminum) everywhere in our region. And thankfully, HandsFreeLink comes with the TL, so I never have to worry about answering my cell phone since it automatically comes through the audio system. IMO, the TL makes it very easy for someone to pay attention; everything you need is at your fingertips.
All in all - I don't regret going automatic with the type of transportation infrastructure that we have in PA; yes, they are ALWAYS doing some type of road construction because our region continues to grow and our roadways need to be upgraded to handle the flow of traffic. You either can take the Capital Beltway and be stuck on the expressway in bumper to bumper traffic or you can take a state highway route (such as I) and still have the same. It's a losing battle for now. :(
Good luck with your decision on the 5mt; keep me posted as to what you decide.

I found out where my old Accord is - I DID, I DID, I DID!!! :D
I have a friend whom I met on this forum who works at the dealership franchise I traded it in at and he was able to tell me that it was sold via internet sales (most likely) to a guy in Falls Church, VA. I would have expected that my 6MT v6 coupe would have went fast since they're somewhat hard to come by... :dunno: I'm just glad I don't have to see it being driven around town! :D
2006AccordV6Lvr 05-19-2006, 09:25 AM Anytime I see any Integra from the generation of 1994 to 2001, I get such profound, deep and piercing sentimental feelings..almost a sadness but not a full depressing one..a tweener feeling... I traded the 1996 burgundy sedan SE, dropped with Eibach Sportlines with Enkei Rs Evolutions wheels (when I first got it) then 17" Konig Toxxins with the carbon fiber tail lights, when I got my 'Cord and now when I see any of these, not necessarily the one I sold, I feel like Wow, I can't believe that was me or part ofmy life for so many years...I feel as though a large part of "my life" died and is no longer part of me and is gone forever. I also feel like I was so fortunate to drive a car like that and can't believe it was my life that was part of that car. It is almost more of a tribute to my parents and family for helping me obtain and attain that car. I get this feeling of slight guilt too that I got to use a vehicle like that and it wasn't entirely up top me to make that happen. It always comes back to those who have helped you the most and are there for you unequivically, isn't it. Sometimes a car can has the potential and the power to gain that level of fondness and loyalty but it takes many many years I guess...

my family's first new car was a brand new 90 accord dx, with the light blue paint, and dark blue interior.....
that car got us to SC, NC, VA, upstate NY, philly to visit family, OH, WV...... that car was everywhere.....
when i found out that we would have to get rid of it due to rust and mounting repairs, i honestly cried over it....
it was sold to a guy not far away who, believe it or not, fixes up older hondas and sometimes re-sells thme as a hobby..... we knew that it was going to a good home to get her fixed up....
then, in december 2000, right after my first deployment, i saw the car of my dreams: a green 93 accord, 10th anniversary edition, showroom condition, only 90k miles...... interior and exterior was all mint condition. drove like a new car.....
told the guy the next day, let me talk to my bank so that i can buy it.... there was one other guy in the running for it, but he eventually dropped out of the race.......
only bad thing that i regret about that car is wrecking it 4 days after i got it..... :bawling:
but, she still lives on tho, with some tough love along the way..... :salue:
I LOVE MY HONDA!!!   :notworthy
ps: i have a soft spot for 4th gen accords...... ;)
JWesG2 05-20-2006, 06:34 AM KJW lol-- Im glad we found out where your car went..
Did you friend who is looking at accords go to Rahal to look at one?? They better have!!
Whenever i meet new people that own a honda/acura toyota/lexus, first question is "did you buy it from rahal?"-- (no) "ok.. you are so not cool anymore" lol (i kid with them of course)
but faulkner sucks, i would never take my car there even if i was fired/quit rahal., faulkner nissan spilled oil on my altima's enigine, and it smelled gross for a few hundred miles..
Also--- Latest thing to go wrong with my car, the other day, i was driving 100, yes 100mph down 81 in rain, i had to run home to get my cell phone, and i got stuck in traffic on progress ave (kjw knows.. its SUCKS!) my "side air bags off" light flashed a few times, it ook this as, wow, thats a sign to slow down from god.. so i slowed down..
then yesterday, it flashed a few more times, then came on for 15 min straight, and went off? Wierd...
Well its going to honda on monday, and then im going to make them fix where the adhesive tape on my rear underspoiler is coming seperate from the bumper..
I want a new car :(
Oh yeah-- did i ever mention that KJW is friends with the woman that owned my car before me?! How freakin crazy is that???! Or the fact, that we live like 2 miles from eachother.
KJW73 05-23-2006, 11:25 AM I am SO glad you can relate!!!
You betcha I took him to Rahal; they found him the car he wanted, but I'm not sure where he's at with it. After the episode I had with Faulkner with my wheel - and them not wanting to take responsibility for 6-months - I lost hope for them. Otherwise, they were decent to me, but their service sucked. However...after being at Rahal...I understand why people come back as loyal customers. I was treated so good at Rahal Acura that I would have thought that I was buying a Maybach, not an Acura! LOL. :D
Sorry to hear about your Accord's problems. :( See...you should have bought my 6MT and you wouldn't have had them! hahahaha. :naughty:
So, did they figure out what was wrong with your ride?
