View Full Version : Does the iPod adapter work with other mp3 players?
joemomma 05-06-2006, 10:39 PM Does anyone know this? They advertise iPod, of course, but would it work with something else? I have a Creative Zen Touch, and it would be nice if I didn't have to buy an iPod in addition to the adapter to play my music.
phoenix 05-09-2006, 10:25 AM I do not believe the iPod adapter works with other MP3 players because, correct me if I am wrong, the adapter links in from the slot on the bottom of the iPod.
What you and I need is is this SNHOND3 (http://www.logjamelectronics.com/sounsnhond3.html) so you can then connect your Zen through its headphone jack to the AUX function on your stereo.
[EDIT] Check out the forums on the Logjam website. There is plenty of info available about hooking up Accords with this device. I have been itching to get this done for a while and can't wait until my tax return comes in (yeah, I waited until the last minute)!!
People have done it before and I am sure if you search this forum you will find something about it. Here is a link that also may help you http://distantcreations.com/accordipod/ . This seems a bit too much for me to do alone so I am going to talk to a local car stereo store to see if they want to take the job on for me.
Good luck!
Conundrum 05-09-2006, 01:52 PM USASpec also makes a unit that has both an iPod dock and a RCA line-in (which can be used via a headphone jack).
Homebrew 05-21-2006, 06:37 PM I used the P.I.E. adapter for a Sirius unit. It works well, much better than the FM modulator. It's not as loud as a CD though.

Conundrum 05-21-2006, 07:05 PM The RCA line in on mine is fairly quiet. have my current MP3 player...a Creative Labs Zen turned up all the way in order to match the volume of the in dash CD player.
As for my dock connector..when I plugged in an iPod it seemed to be just as loud as my other inputs, which is good because down the road I plan to replace my Zen with a Nano. I rarely listen to most of my music, so having a 30GB HDD player isn't a priority to me anymore...a 4GB nano would suit my needs much better.
Jay Gatsby 05-22-2006, 08:45 AM Any idea on what installation costs for a SNHONDA3 adapter? The unit is $99, so I assume it's likely another $100 or so to install it.

I was told installation would be $50 from a local car stereo shop in my area. They said it is a basic installation.

Good to hear. $150 isn't much to ensure that you can use an MP3 player in your new car. If only there was an easy way to control the MP3 player through the steering wheel controls... :dunno:

I think you're out of luck on that one unless you have an iPod and buy a different adapter.

well with my USASpec I can control an iPod via my steering wheel (I have an EX), but yeah...as far any other MP3 player that connects via a line-in (and headphone jack) you can only control it with the player itself.
As for installation...I'd either recommend you do it yourself or see what Honda charges to have it done at a dealership. I went through a lot getting my adapter installed (search the forums and you'll see...stupid "not an ashtray"...lol), but I wouldn't want some kids working at an audio install place working on my car...there are just too many chances to scratch/damage a panel or two (even I didn't get away 100% clean), and if you do it yourself your more likely to take your time and be more careful imo. Thinking back though I still would have seen what Honda would have charged...atleast if they damaged a panel you could complain to them and maybe have them replace whatever they damaged for you :dunno:

A guy over on OdyClub.com brought his at-the-time brand new 05 Ody to Circuit City to install a DVD player. The guy drilled not one, but TWO holes straight through the ROOF. Needless to say, the owner was a little bit ticked... :paranoid: I'm sure if that were my car I'd have wrung the kids neck too :dunno:
