Hi everyone, I wish my first post would have been more along the lines of showing off the new Black V6 coupe, but instead my hood won't close :dunno:

I had the car for just a week and decided to see what was under the hood. I pulled the latch by the driver side and opened the hood. Lifted it up. This is the one with the hydrolics. When I went to close it, I lowered it all the way until I heard a click and then firmly pressed down. It just goes down and then comes right back up.

I tried pulling the latch inside the car but to no luck. I am pretty knowledgeable about cars and this is just puzzling me. It seems like there are two latches by the hood. The one that you lift up to release the hood and another behind that locks it in. Does anyone have any idea or ever experienced this?

Thanks for your help and I promise my next post will be some pictures!!

open the hood maybe 6 inches. push down hard to slam it shut. dont push after it is past the first latch like you're doing now, you will need a lot more force and your hands might dent your hood.

Just for poops and giggles, make sure the fuse box lid is on tightly, the air cleaner box is screwed down, and there aren't any tools or other objects sitting on the engine or above the wheel wells, etc.... :paranoid:

I had left an oil filter wrench on top of one of my engines once. It was just enough that the hood would drop all the way but wouldn't shut and latch. Luckily nothing was bent but it took me forever to figure out what was up.

^^ yup what they said. It's actually mentioned in the manual, let it go at about 30cm up (about a foot) and slam. Pushing down by hand you can pretty much guarantee you'll get a nasty big ding eventually. Wish the techs at the dealer would read the manual, I always see them lowering the hood and then pressing down to close. I think they think they're being nice not slamming the hood :dunno:

I always push my hood closed gently. It dents but it also undents by itself. If you push in the right spot I guess :dunno:

excellent suggestion!!

really? I didn't know that! I was doing something right?! I don't touch the top of my hood unless washing/drying it. I pull it down by the latch hook up there (over my head) When it's about shoulder height I sling it down. Not a hard sling, just enough to not have to do it twice! Just how I've always done it. :dunno:

From page 163 in my 05 manual

For I4

"To close the hood, lift it up slightly
to remove the support rod from
the hole. Put the support rod back
into its holding clip. Lower the
hood to about a foot (30 cm) above
the fender, then let it drop.Make
sure it is securely latched."

For V6

"To close the hood, lower the hood to
about a foot (30 cm) above the
fender, then press down firmly with
your hands. Make sure it is securely
latched."

Well, I guess I do it ALMOST right. I still don't touch it! It's always closed from the drop. I do pull up a pinch (from underneath) afterward to make sure it's latched though. :)

Thanks everyone for there replys. I'm glad to see that there was confusion amongst other owners. The owner manual is misleading. For the V6 model it says to press down firmly, nothing about slinging it.

I did the slinging almost follow through motion and got it to go in. I did feel the hood go in and out but luckily nothing happened to the hood as in a dent or such. I think you would have to really put some weight on it to do some damage.

I am getting the fog lights installed on Wednesday from the dealer, I will have them check everything but looks like it is on the up and up.
