I'm sure you all have seen the commercials for the Phaeton (Audi A8) I thought I would check pricing and WOW.. base 65k for V8 and 78k for V12...
Has anyone seen these on the road yet?? With VW quality issues on all their other models it blows me away that they are trying to pull this one off....I see they are marketing the 40-60 yr old market with this car....
For that price it should come with a repair tech in the trunk..haha
My 2 cents......

mmm... if I paid $78k for a car no one would wash that car but me. I'm the only one that can take care of my car the way I want it taken care of. I take joy in washing & taking care of my car. It's not work to me. That's sorta like buying a fancy car so someone can drive it for you.
I do like the idea of a repair tech in the trunk. :D

here here ben! I agree 100%. I love washing my car -- so I know that its been done the way I want. I long for the day that the damn snow melts and i can start washing it again on my own instead of using the 'super wash' down the street to get the dirt and ice melt off it it.

Our cars are always washed by our hands too. No one else would ever be allowed to touch them! Both are dark enough to get swirl marks if not treated right! Even all the jambs are kept clean, trunk & under the hood too....just part of the maintaince.
I was being as serious as stuffing a tech in the trunk! Living with one for a hundred years or so I can tell you they really don't like it. They get a bit grumpy & all their joints lock up which makes it much harder for them to turn a wrench!!:D Although I only tried it once, maybe he'd get used to it after a while!!

I wash by hand when weather permits...... but when it is at or below freezing like today.. The vehicles go thru no touch spray wash, w/under-body spray to keep salt down... it's about 2 Minutes from the house so I can dry in garage....
For $3.50 it's worth it to be able to see out of windows and mirrors....
It's supposed to rain and change to snow tomorrow so I'll probably wash on Friday...
Tomorrow is road trip day anyway so I won't have time or probably even feel like messing with it after a 500 mile drive....

I've seen the Phaeton on the road and I don't think I'd buy one, nor would I see anyone else buying one. It doesn't look particularly attractive (actually looks pretty bland to me), the feature list isn't that impressive and neither is the power. I've heard the performance on this car isn't that great either. I've tried for years and years to like this car because I do like VW, but it's not working. I just love the S-Class styling so much...though I couldn't buy one because of my bad experiences with Mercedes :)
Also I don't like the W-configuration, especially in this application. If there's one reason to make a compact engine, it's so you can squash an 8 cylinder engine into a 2800lb Golf. When you're building a big luxury car, putting a W motor in it doesn't make sense because it compromises durability. The connecting rods are just so thin. Besides, nobody cares, if it can't perform it doesn't matter how small the engine is. It just has to MOOOOVE.
