Hi all, I have to top up the power steering fluid since it is now in the lower lever mark, the question is, is it mandatory to use Honda brand fluid or a good quality one like Shell or Esso should do fine? I have read several posts on this matter and seems that, unlike oils, only a few people dared to use a different one. It is not impossible to find the Honda one, but I have to go to a Honda dealer and pay extra $$$ maybe for the same quality fluid that I can get in any lube shop or gas station. Would like to know your opinions. Thanks. Julian.

i am glad that you posted this, cause mine is low too.....
I would stick with te Honda stuff. FOr a few extra $$$, you're safer.
FYI Starting in 1994 Honda started to use a "torque sensitive" power steering system as opposed to "speed sensitive." Basically it reads the resistance to turning the wheel caused by the "friction" between the tire and the ground. I'm not sure if that means the fluid has different characteristics. :dunno: At any rate, I wouldn't use an off the shelf fluid to top off. As for Accords before 1994,I would still use the Honda fluid.
