Hate to tell you the price break isn't to great. My insurance is almost $1,000 a year on my primary car. And that is with all the discounts and no accidents. The real break comes when you get married, but my friends tell me that really costs more in other areas besides insurance. :naughty:

Hi - I'm one of the "older guys" in the crowd - didn't get my first car till I was in college and bought it myself. My 2 older kids (21 and 18) drive and now have decent cars (see my signature line), but they started out with 10 year old cars that they drove for 3 years before they got something newer. Older one got a new Civic to drive to college and the middle one "inherited" my '05 Accord LX when the 11 year old Saab died this past year (and I got a killer lease on the '06 Pilot). But the Accord goes back to us when he goes to college, and the older one is partially paying some of the civic that he'll own it when he graduates. They're certainly not "slumming" it by any stretch, but they also haven't been able to do any real upgrades.

I'm not ragging on you - don't get me wrong. But I hope you truely understand how very lucky you are - not only for the car given to you, but also to have the ability to put upgrades on your car that even us "old folk" can't do. Good luck with the Accord - it's what we've got and after 15 months and 15k miles it's been great.

I understand, my sister was actually given the option to have a Dodge Charger.. or Accord.. any car she wanted. But she refuses and drives an 89' I think... Nissan Maxima. She's a big "I must work for everything i recieve" type person. But hey, you put an accord in my face and i'll take it and appriciate it.

I have to pay for all of the upgrades ... I recently sold a website i've been working on for a few years to buy the wheels/tires.

Normally when you hit a pothole, 2 things give...1 is the suspension, the less obvious part is the tire bends a little bit. On a normal tire like your stockers, there is a ton of sidewall between where it meets the road and the rim. On a 19" obviously there is much less (you can see that). So you have less tire to protect the rim and eventually, if you hit a pothole big enough, it will just leave a big dent in there. So, avoid them at all costs!

And just to emphasize what Ben and Steven said, aftermarket wheels tend to bend a bit easier than OEM ones. And when they bend, sometimes the tire can lose it's mating surface with the wheel and they go flat on the spot - especially true with your 19's. So be really careful about curbs, potholes, rough railroad tracks.....

Well, the 21 yr old is a junior at the univ of nh majoring in music ed, and the 18 yr old is a senior in HS, applying to several schools for music production/technology (hoping for some money from early apps, his gpa is 3.96...). Can you see a trend with the music theme? Not sure what gene pool it came from, but both are all-state musicians (first on sax, second on clarinet), and very talented in both the theory and playing. I figure if it makes them some money to live off of, then go for it!

As far as soon out of the house - well, see, there's this third child who's 10 and in 4th grade (with ADHD and some learning issues), so it'll be a LOOOONG time before we're empty nesters. But that's OK, it was our choice and we're happy with the way our kids have turned out!! I do get tired of people at Under-10 rec soccer games ask whether he's our grandson, though. :lmao:

I turn 43 next month! My intention to get a V6 6MT Coupe this year goes back to 1982 when a friend's father drove us to school in his brand new Supra.

Like I'm gonna answer THIS one!!!

My kids are older than many of you!!!

Needs an "older than dirt" catagory!!! :D

Quite right too. Never ask a lady her age !
Me, myself, am 21 X 3 + 4. My daughter [38] wants to know when I plan to grow up. The answer is NEVER !
p.s. I pay about £200 [$400] insurance p.a. All those years of clean living/licence pays off in the end.
Another way to look at it is - my age is now 5 since I was supposed to be dead 5 years ago, so well ahead of the game.

Myself, I'm 43 and drive an Accord, my wife is 28 an drives a CRV.
This is what I've observed with Honda owners in my area of BC.
Typical Accord owner is in their 50's.
Accord coupe owners are women in their 40's
Civic owners are late 20's and female at least the majority.
Honda cars over 5yrs old are males in their late teens, early 20's.
Fastest driver's in a school zone, females in their mid 30's in a Odessey

To All:

I am a '53 model (DOB: January 30th, 1953, per my birth certificate). I THINK that makes me about 56? :dunno:

You remind me of a wonderful anecdote told by Mr. Andy Rooney (on CBS's "60 Minutes"). Mr. Rooney is now some 90 (ninety) years of age (DOB: January 14th, 1919).

Some irate viewer wrote Mr. Rooney a letter stating that he is an "old fart" who has worked well past his prime, and that he should retire.

The always quick-witted Andy Rooney replied: "You know, I didn't ask for this. It just happened. And if YOU are LUCKY, it might just happen to YOU, too!" :lmao:

Growing old is mandatory. Growing UP is "optional." :D :naughty:

You don't stop having fun because you grow old. You grow old because you stop having FUN!
