View Full Version : History of the Accord
Hey found this one pager that sums up the changes in each generation of Accord. I can proudly say that my family has owned a Gen 1,2,3,4,5, and 7
How's about everyone else?

I don't think they got they last one right. '98-02 should be one, then '03-? the next.
We've had gen. 1(2-'77),2(2-'82),3(1-'86 & 1-'87),5(1-'94),6(1-'02),7(my tink)
The only body we didn't buy was '90-93. Our kids had '90 Civic & Integra. I'm not sure why we missed that batch of Accords.
At this time our family has:
'03 Accord
'03 Pilot
'95 Oddy
'88 Accord coupe
'87 Accord HB
'90 Integra HB
'90 Civic HB
When everyone's here, it looks like a used Honda lot!!:D
There's other's in the family in other places too. We have a large, spead out bunch.
Hey, your'e right. They completely missed gen6 1998 - 2002. I guess I didn't noticed because I was just going by the pics and well... that was the gen that I never owned.
I know what you mean about the used Honda lot too. In our tribe, we have a 1986 Accord, 1999 Odyssey, 2001 CRV, 2003 Accord, and a 1998 Sienna (black sheep of the family) :)

What's the "G" for in your signature? LXG??
I love the shade of silver (satin) they started using in '02! That's why my '02 was silver. It reminded me of diamonds! The others had a hint of gold in them. Nice, but if I'd wanted gold, I would have bought it. I thought the older slivers & golds were too similar. The satin looked like amethyst under the flourescent lights in our garage & took on a sky blue in the sunshine. When we bought the '03 I HAD to have the eternal blue! It looks black in the shade, royal deep purple under the lights in the garage & definate blue in the sunshine. The nighthawk black is beautiful, but I wanted a gray interior. I think Honda does a great job in their color choices most of the time!
The LXG is a Canadian model. Our line up is DX, LXG EXL LXV6 and EXV6. Our choices (and colours) are a bit more limited. For example, we can't get an EX without leather or any model with the NAV. Not sure why Honda does this.
The "Touring Edition" is a Dealer package that included, the rear deck spoiler, 15" Honda alloy rims, Luggage by Victorinox (swiss army knife guys) and speacial badging. I didn't get the luggage as the dealer lost it. But to make up for it, they installed the metal dash kit. I'm good with that as I didn't need the luggage anyways.
I love the silver too! Originally we looked at a Desert Mist LXG, but the beige interior just didn't appeal to me or my wife. Although the dealer had discounted the car by $2K (it was their last 2003), we decided to wait and save our pennies for a 2004 in a colour we wanted. Then we saw our Touring edition at another dealer hidden behind a pack of Pilots. In the end we paid less for it than the other car.
Overall we were pleased with the colour, price and car. What else can you ask for eh!

I guess they're still working on putting Canada in the database! I wonder if the other models with Nav are available there. Like Pilot, MDX, & other Acura lines... If so, then I guess it shows how different the Accord's interactive Nav really is. I find it fun to "tell" her to tuen the A/C up or down, but I really don't use it much for (voice) for navigating. When we're together I can just push the panel. When I'm alone I know where I'm going.
It sure was nice to have while driving all over looking for a nursery that sold Jacaranda trees in Anaheim last weekend. I kept repeating "I love my car!".
Another question about your car.... I see you say "5sp". So it's an automatic? Or a 4 cyl comes with a 5 speed manual there? I'm under the impression all the sticks are 6 speed here (in the Accords) , but I've been wrong before!
Our Pilot came with a "protection package", meaning it had the cargo tray, floor mats, bumper garish, & side step. They'd also put on the chrome & pinstriping. When weren't sure we'd like it, but now we love it. The chrome really goes well with the red. AND very few others have bothered with it, so it's more unique!
Just checked the Honda Canada Site and it appears that they don't offer a honda Nav kit in any model. I guess they just don't see a market for it. Other manufacturer's do offer NAV kits though. When travelling for work, I usually rent a Nissan Muran which offers a NAV which has been usefull in an unfamiliar city.
My Accord has a 5sp manual tranny. Only the coupe is available with the 6sp manual. We acutally wanted a manual tranny. It adds a sportiness to the car and allows us to really use the ivtech4 to its fullest. I found that my the vtech in '95 Accord was not noticable until 3700rpm.
Hey I noticed that you have use zaino waxes. Was it difficult to do? How long did it take and how often do you have to apply it? I want to keep that shinny new car look as long as possible. :)

The zaino really isn't hard at all. It is multistep though. If you have wax on it, first you must remove it with a "dawn" type dishwashing soap. Then when purchasing you choose which kind of treatment best fits your needs. Both our cars are dark, so we have the stuff for dark paint. Step one goes on much like wax, but you aren't supposed to use circular motions. Step 2 is spraying on & spreading thinly. Then we use a cotton diaper & buff it all. The zaino tire treatment is great too. It doesn't leave them slimey...just dark with a gloss.
We originally put on about 6 coats, then one about 6 months later. This Spring we'll probably do it again & once more at the end of hot weather. We do the spray sometimes inbetween when we do a detail washing. You know, how sometimes you just wash & dry, then other times you take a bit more time...well, those are the times that we do the spray. Probably about every third washing or so. Mine gets detailed more often than the Pilot because it's less of an event to wash!
Since others offer Nav there, Honda probably will eventually. I'm surprised they don't. So many extra features we've wanted in the past were ONLY offered in Can. Like the seat warmers on the '03 Pilot. We added ours when the '04's came out with them here. Just got the parts & with a bit of imagination, put them in.

Great "family" picture. I don't think I've ever remembered to take one of our bunch.
Now THIS will make the people shoveling snow at Xmas jealous!! :D

Looks like there is an error when they give the specs on the 7th gen Accord. They list the HP at 200 instead of 240.

Our 77 & 82 didn't have those mirrors! That must have been one of those Japan only things!

Our 77 hatchback didn't either. Definitely a Nippon thing.
