Just wanted to run a price quote by you guys....

After calling a dealer and telling him that he came highly recommended from a friend who walked away with a great deal blah blah blah,
the final quote I seem to be getting from him is $18K (plus 5% state tax) on a brand new Accord LX.... Do you think this is still too high? Should I be able to push this even lower? Anyone has tips on what I can use for the powers of persuasion?

Thanks :)

here you go.... there is a worksheet located here where you can crunch numbers, and get a great deal, with the daler still makes a 5% profit....

Is that price for an automatic or a manual? Price sounds good, but make sure the quote doesn't have any hidden fees.

Ya...things to look out for incl. delivery fee, destination charge, tire fees, doc fees (stupidest one), full tank of gas fee (no kidding here)...they add up. Doc and Destination charge alone you're talking about nearly 1K.

Are you serious about the full tank of gas fee? That's supposed to be included in the price of the car! Tire fee? Where do these guys come up with these things?! They might as well have a new car drive off fee and a battery charging fee. :lmao:

Back in May '05 I bought an '05 Accord LX with Auto for $18,400 - here in NH - so your price if it's an auto is very good, for a manual it's not too bad, either.

sorry, my bad. it's an automatic.

the price includes destination fee and doc fee.
i don't expect to sign the contract if they try any other stupid fees.

thanx for the worksheet, dude (or a dudette?)

NOW i'm confused..... if you've used this before, perhaps you can help.
the invoice price of the auto LX is 18,750 (plus dest. charge). That less holdback, less insentives, less floor plan thing (which i logged at 0 since i don't know what it is) is 17,571, which, according to the sheet is the price to the dealer. Add 3% profit + destination charge is $18,640, which is quoted as "final price to the consumer".

if all of that is true, why am i getting the car for $18,000? (well, to be fair, they're -saying- they'll give it for 18K--i'm sure they'll try to push some hidden fees, but that's besides the point, i'll refuse and threaten to walk out).

while 18K is still huge for my budget, with these numbers it feels like underpaying. is there something wrong? should i be worried?

granted i didn't choose any options, but i don't think there's anything on the LX i can really 'opt' for :)

so yeah, NOW i'm puzzled........

if you or someone else who've used this could help, i'd much appreciate it.

thanx...

There is a $750 incentive from Honda to the dealers for "marketing support" right now. I would think with the holdback and the incentive you should be able to get a LX for 1K under invoice. If your local Honda dealers are like the ones around here they have tons of accords on the lots right now.

I would try to shoot for 17.5K after destination but before tax/title/license fees.

Go here and read, there are alot of prices paid for the lx listed..........take a happy middle ground and shoot for the stars............

I paid 19632 plus dest. fee of 550 total of 20182 with no other fees. I bought the car about a week ago. Its a 2006 Accord EX cloth 4cyl auto.

Looks like prices between 16,200 to 16,900 with Out The Door prices (all fees calculated in Tax, Title, License, dest. fee) around 18200..........

The worksheet is a wonderful guide. I used it when purchasing my EX-L I4 to make sure I was in the ballpark. Each dealer quote was different. Lower price but higher "Dealer Fee" (or profit) on top of the quote. If you are getting 18K plus tax, title, and tag then you are probably getting a very good fair deal. Of course it never hurts to make one more run at pitting the dealers against each other. They can go lower if, for example, they are close to meeting a volume rebate target so "giving up $300 dollars on one sale" gets them more total money from the factory for meeting other goals. Just don't let them give you the "we aren't making any money on this deal." One of the internet quotes that I received indicated that, but they ddin't win my business.

It can be information overload, but the worksheet you used gives you an idea. The prices paid by others is a good comparision but you have to compare apples to apples are either other Out the Door prices for you area or an area with the same tax rate and title and tag fees. I worked up the OTD price for each of the quotes I received so that a lower price but higher fee was compared on a total cost basis to the other quotes with higher prices but lower or no dealer fee added on.

Most importantly, once you are happy with your deal go ahead and buy and enjoy. You will always see that someone paid less, but there are others who paid more. Hindsight is always 20/20, but the best view is out he windshield of a wonderful new car!

i got the paperwork faxed to me last night.
i'm going to call the guy and put a CC deposit on it now.

06 accord LX sedan, i4, automatic
$17,800 even
+ state tax
+ $75 doc fee (negotiated down from 200)
+ $20 title transfer fee (which i'm thinking would've been part of doc fee
if i didn't negotiate it down)

i hope it works out

thank you (knock-knock-wood) :)
$500 on CC, pick up scheduled for tuesday morning.
the new car is white, just like my current baby is :)

i wonder if it's a good karma to give the second car the same name as the first one... :)

I always try to give each car its own name. They are, after all, each different. Come to think of it, I haven't settled on a name for this one yet. Brings back memories of my high school buddy's 1969 Ford Falcon Futura - "Jeffery". Those older cars had more personality than your could shake a stick at.

*grin* in college, a friend named her dog (forgot the breed, but something small and really-really ugly-faced) after a guy i was seeing who was being a jerk to me :)

but i just keep thinking of 'the simpsons'--you know, snowball, snowball I, snowball II, snowball III :)

when i bought my current baby (used), she already had a name. i kept it, and it really worked out. i was thinking that if maybe i name the second car the same, it'll treat me just as fabulolusly as the first one did...

Well to be fair...that was what we were aiming for hehe

My friend at the time had a new 05 Corolla S, which she promptly ran into one of her parents car, putting a nice dent on the side of her rear passenger side door. So we decided that to piss her off, that car was officially named Scar. And to get back at me, she named my car Sandy :dunno: :lmao:

the guy i bought my baby from named her penelope. he said he was looking for someone faithful in mythology. worked out for him, worked out for me.

i think the "official" name will indeed be penelope II, but i'll probably be dropping the "II" conversationally :)

i picked up the car!!!!!!!!!!!!
it's sitting under the window at the office.

2006 accord LX, I4, atomatic, white....
$17,800+tax+$95 doc fee and title transfer

it's sooooooooooooooo weird driving it.
it feels like a tank compared to the little baby sitting at home.
i could barely park it in a really roomy parking spot.

weird......

yeah, i drive a 93, and when i drove the 05 that my friend used to have, IT IS HUGE compared to the other accords from previous generations.....

i had to take my time parking, and merging too, only cause of the size of the car......

Congrats on the new car!! You'll get used to the size, it was quite a change when I upgraded from my 1990 Accord LX - those older Accords are like go-carts! Park them anywhere and zip through lanes without a problem! The biggest difference I notice in my driving is now I am extremely careful when I parallel park - don't want to scuff up those rims!! ENJOY! :)

that is sooooooo odd. i pulled up honda's specs, and, unless i've misread stuff, the 06 is supposed to be only 1" longer and 1" wider than the older ones. certainly doesn't feel like it.

and oh, wrt the pic, i need to get home and whip out the digital camera first :P

yeah.... the thing i hate the most about the new hondas is that they don't have that black bumper that doesn't scratch :(

speaking of which, i'm going to go post a question in 'general drive' on just that :)

Comgrats on the new car, mypp!

The body colored bumpers are for cosmetics.. not to play bumper cars with the other cars in front and back of you when parallel parking.. :)

Turning radius on the new Accords are wider so you need more space to make the same turn. It's mostly due to the wider tires being used and the limited size of the wheel wells. The I4 has a much better turning radius than the V6's.

The cabin space has increased significantly over the years, but at the same time, the engine "footprint" has been reduced (less open space in the engine bay). More space inside = larger feeling, but the overall length of the car could stay near what it used to be. A term you may have heard is "cab-forward" design. It's basically means the windshield slopes more and is pushed forward. The wheels pushed towards the corners of the car and you get more space inside the cabin, but the overall length of the car doesn't change much.

Just give yourself a month and you'll get used to the new design.

*grin* i can vouch for -my- parallel parking, but not for the parking job of some ass who'll be parking in front or behind me. the old style bumper saved the "cosmetic" look of the car on many occasions :)

yup. took me forever to park the car yesterday, and you could've fit a hummer in that slot :) it feels huge on the outside. plus having "no front bumper" look gives me an uncomfortable feeling. i'm sure it'll pass, but it's a little unexpected :)
