why is it so hard to install it?

Mv774

the drivers side bolts or the strut bar holes would not aline together at all

First, make sure you got the right part for your car.

Which way did it not line up correctly? Were the two bolts too far apart so you couldn't fit the STB over the bolts when the left side isn't in yet or were the bolts too close to the left side so you could only put one side in? You may have to bend the bar a little bit to get it in. If it's too tight of a fit, try jacking up the front middle jack point (there's an arrow pointing to it), then try to install it again.

If the bolts are too close together, you can try bending the forks a little to get it to fit better or use a drill to enlarge the holes a little bit with a drill then install the nuts with a washer. Don't bring it to a shop to install this part unless you're completely out of ideas. If you see them put it in, you'll slap yourself on the head because of how easy it is to install.

the bar is designed shorter so as to keep the entire thing under tension. for it to fit you need to jack oneside of your car up, loosen all the bolts on the top, have somone tilt the shock and slide the strut bar on and then tighten it down.

whoa that sounds hardcore but ill try it later this week when i have more time.... which side would you jack up... or that front mid jack point where would you jack it up at?

Mv774

the pass. side fits on ok its just that drivers side that the holes are pushed in to far i mean im pretty good with a wrench and i just couldnt figure it out but loosing all the bolts and pushing the strut in or out or whatever the case may be sounds like a good idea

the issue you are having is that the bar is .25 inch to short to fit over the bolts on the drivers side. so you have to move the bolts closer by tilting the suspension towards the bar so that it can slip on, you then slide the bar down and hold the struts in place.

thats how i did mine. its not a simple slide onto both sides of the strut operation.

so pretty much its gonna be a big pain in the :paranoid: i know this will be a last resort but does anybody know of how much it would cost to have it put in or a budy that had it done for him i just tryed jacking the car at the mid point and pushing the drivers side but i didnt try both at the same time.

it takes 20 mins at most.

heres what you do

unbolt the nuts from the struts.

jack car up. have someone pull the wheel outwards. and then slide the strut bar onto the bolts.

screw nuts back on.

done

A rubber mallet also does the trick.

Nice! Glad you finally got it on. How's the STB? Notice any difference in handling?

Mv774
09-26-2005, 11:49 AM
well i put the STB on and then i painted my calipers because my parents left town and i had a car to drive while my calipers dried. so i havent driven the car yet but tomorrow i will be able to drive it and ill let you know

just drove my car today and the STB IMO is worth the 114 i paid for it. you know the difference between a cheep watch and a 23094823048924 million dollar watch..... just think of it like that but for the handling. now for saying that if you can find a deal like that 114 shipped and you have an extra 114 just laying around.... do it. maybe its all in the mind maybe not. ive heard people say it doesnt do anything and others say its night and day. i like it, i think it helped alittle in the suspension dept. but i would break the bank on it like i would a turbo, supercharger, etc.

I have the same STB. I love it too. Nice job  I hadthe same trouble getting it on, but it helps out with the handling soooo much :D

ya i like it i just bought bmwvolvos aem CAI (cause he had a MAF on his car) but im thinking about taking the STB off sanding it pretty good and painting it..... im not sure if i like all the Bling bling.... but it does its job very well. and plus the chrome is sort of starting to grow on me

T's97accordex

What color is your CAI? You could paint it to match that. I was messing around on the net the other day and found VHT metal tint paint, it might look pretty nice. I've never seen it used before, so I couldn't be sure, but it's supposed to give it a "annodized look." Only one way to find out, I guess :D :dunno:

Mv774
10-05-2005, 04:37 PM
its the red one.... i read somewhere, where there guy painted his with that high temp ceramic engine block paint (i guess so disapate heat faster :dunno: ) might do that.... also i was thinking about wraping the CAI in header wrap like the drag racing guys do. that wrap is supose to keep whatevers in, in and whatevers out, out

T's97accordex
10-05-2005, 05:27 PM
Yeah, my roommate wrapped his SRI, and it seems to work pretty well. I was actually talking about painting the STB with that VHT paint. One of the only three colors they offer is red too, so you could match it to your CAI :)

Mv774
10-06-2005, 02:18 PM
ya when i got my DC headers im gonna wrap those and i sould have enough left to wrap the CAI. but its going to be a while untill i get those headers at like 300 thats gonna break my bank

T's97accordex

Yeah. Working on my cars is fun, but it'll definitely put a big dent in your pocket :) It's an addiction :dunno: I was thinking about getting the DC headers too, but I've heard mixed reviews about them, so if you get em first, let me know what you think

I know this topic is like 2 months old now, but where did you get the bar for $114 shipped??? :dunno:

i have my 6 month old bar for sale? interested 100 shipped?

1. Ebay has none.

2. I would not pay $100 for a used bar when I can get a brand new one for $120 shipped. The $20 saved with your bar isn't enough of an incentive to buy it. For all I know, you could be a scammer and I would be SOL.

Also, after reading a ton of threads about this bar last night, it looks like a pain to install (unbolt all the shock tower bolts, having to jack up the car, and have another person help you by pulling the wheel) and that it could affect the alignment because of that. All this hassle is reminding me of why I sold my 99 Si with tons of mods in favor of this Accord (which I told myself I wasn't going to mod).... :headbash:

well for what its worth i probably didnt need anybodys help i could have done it myself. i just tryed to put it on one day during my lunch break and i was freaking out. if i would have just giving myself a full hour to sit down and think about it i could have done it no problem.... and the bar is worth it.
a STB and the TL rear sway is a pretty good little set up that i have is not quite stiff enought :joker: for me but a big difference over stock

:

ouch....umm the bar is in the exact same condition it came in. only thing missing are the cheap plastic caps that cover up where the bolts go.

as far as me being a scammer...urmmm im the sort of guy who sells ppl stuff on credit, and dont mind if they pay me whenever they get the money.

also if you cant install the STB, i wouldnt recommend your touching your own car for doing anything other than wiper fluid replacements.

Well you never can tell when it comes to interent transactions. I've been scammed before, so I have to be extra careful.

As for the install, its not that I can't do it. It's that I do not want to mess up the alignment or even camber. Trust me, I've done plenty of DIY installs (i.e. header, cai, shocks, springs, camber kit, exhaust, full car stereo, hid kit, camshafts, and cam gears). I had a Neuspeed strut bar on my old 94 Integra before and it did not have any of these fitment issues. I understand the concept behind this one, but they sure don't mention any of that in the pdf instruction on their website.... :dunno:

wow this is sort of getting out of hand.... everybody take a chill pill... and yes neuspeeds pdf is sort of miss leading but oh well its worth it

sorry just sort of touched a nerve there on the scammer part, just dealt with a few of them and it hurt what was said up there.

hrmm...well i always assumed that a strut bar needs to be under tension or else it doesnt work. as far as it messing up camber, if anything it just helps a FWD car since negative camber in front is a good thing for turns. but my alignment settings didnt change at all after the STB install. the entire thing is held under tension to prevent it flexing at all.
