Has anyone tried to change the color of the ambient console lightinin their 03/04 Ex accord? The light is amber, but I thought blue would look better with the metal trim. Is it a light bulb or led?

Now that's an excellent question and a wonderful idea?

I just found out that the same light in the Acura TSX/TL is blue...I should be able to get it from the parts dept. Now to get at the bulb...

if you end up changing it all out for blue, take pics and post them. I would like to do that too, I hate the orange.

I will, definitely. It shouldn't be hard to get at the bulb, but I'm an optimist :)

Are you talking about that tiny light on top by the glasses holder?

There are several people that do LED conversions, and I think that yours might be one of the first 7th gen's with that, so they might even give it to you for free since they're using yours as the guinea pig. www.99accord.com comes to mind.

Right, it's that little light between the glasses holder and the map lights. Someone on vtec.net said that it's an led, and the acuras use a blue light instead of amber in there.

ok, I'm pulling up an old one because i wanted to ask this very question. Did anyone succeed with this mod? I was thinking red or blue, so if the acura has blue and its a direct swap, then i guess that answers my question. If its just a standard LED, then I guess we could put in any color we want. So.... success stories? part numbers? anything?

ok. a bit more searching and answered my own question on another forum. Here is someone who did the mod, for those interested:

Mine's done. It's blue. He got the bulb at Radio Shack.

i guess "he" would be a boyfriend/husband/father? So was this a t1.5 74 narrow angle led? was any soldering involved? or was it a direct swap?

You really haven't done much reading here! :lmao: He is my prince & hubby....

He took out the exsisting bulb & holder & I believe soldered on the new one before putting it back in. Technically that's not all true... he brought a dulpicate home from work to attach the new bulb to, but you get the idea.

Others have done it & I think there's another thread about it with instructions.

ah-ha found it:

ok. well, thanks for the link. I'd rather not do soldering, so i like the instructions i posted above. Its not that I can't solder, but why pull out an extra tool if i don't have to. ;)

i wonder why that thread didn't come up when i originally searched for ambient lighting .... hmmmmmm...
