Tint looks great, especially on a white car such as that.

I agree it looks great AND needs a spoiler! Think you'll have it by the end of Aug so we can see it??? :D You really won't mind the drool all over your shiney white car, right???? :lmao: We'll probably be driving in an Alero or something like that.

Not sure about a spoiler, it may just make it look tacky.. But I think a twin dark coachline from just behind (leave about a six inch gap) the bottom of your front light to the same place on the rear light and paint your door handles the same colour might just set it off nicely.. :)

Experiment in photoshop or similar to see whats possible, and what looks nice.. :)

"Colour coding" is a cheap con trick, they dont bother to mask anything up.. just spray straight over everything, saves them a lot of time and money, and the cheeky buggers try to charge us more for it?? dohhh... :thumbsdow

Nice tint job .. :)

for all you guys with tint do you know if they had to remove your door panels to install it?

princess

Why would they??? :dunno: They're removable. Mine weren't.

I don't believe they removed my door panels when they tinted the windows.

I think there's 2 different ways to tint with film..... cut & fit to all the exposed glass OR remove the whole window & lay it out for adding the film. Most cut to fit. When we did our own '82 & '86, we removed the whole window. It's much easier for the DIYer!

I'm sure Hex meant remove, not replace...... :dunno:

Yeah I meant removed, the reason I ask is because I usually do my own tint but I noticed the door panel goes higher than the rubber piece at the bottom of the window which is where the tint is suppose to either stop at or tuck under.

To be done properly the panel should be removed.

Otherwise they have to push the weatherstrip down, apply tint and then fish the tint back up...not a good thing. The tint MUST be applied below the weatherstrip otherwise over time it WILL peel, then tear. This is also a sure-fire prescription for scratches.

No reason not to remove the panel...it comes off easily enough.

thanks windchimp, can you give me a quick how to on how to remove the door panel? It's an 06 accord sedan

thanks windchimp, can you give me a quick how to on how to remove the door panel? It's an 06 accord sedan

You'll need a #2 phillips screwdriver, a small flathead screwdriver (I like using a jeweler's screwdriver w/a 1/8" wide blade) and a trim panel tool (you can get one at Pep Boys). First roll the windows down. Remove the rubber liner in the door pull recess - it will come right out if you simply pry it out with the small screwdriver. Remove the single screw beneath the rubber liner. Carefully pry out the recess cup trim behind the door opener lever with the small screwdriver - look for little release tabs at the front and back of the piece. Remove the two screws now revealed. Using the trim tool, carefully pry off the door panel starting at the bottom rear. If you look closely, you will see small triangle shaped markings molded in the door panel plastic indicating the location of the clips. Release the first clip at the bottom rear, then while holding the panel out with one hand work your way along the bottom releasing the remaining clips as you go. Next release the rear clips in the same manner then the fronts. When the panel is fully released, lift it up to disengage it from the window track area and up and over the door lock pin.

There are several harnesses and the door handle cable connected which depending on your task you may or may not need to remove. For tinting you can simply fashion a hanger from a piece of wire to support the panel without disconnecting the harnesses, this will also allow you to roll the window back up to perform the tinting operation. Tint should be applied at least 1/2" below the window seal level on the door panel. When the tinting is complete, clean the rubber window seal on the door panel and apply some 303 Aerospace Protectant to the rubber. NO ARMORALL! As a matter of fact, toss the Armorall and forget you ever heard of it - it does more harm than good. Get some 303 and you'll be using something that really serves a purpose.

http://www.autogeek.net/303aerprot.html

Carefully replace the door panel while leaving the window up. Once in place, use the palm of your hand over the location of the white clips to press the panel back on, replace the screws and trim pieces and have a beer. Don't roll the windows down for at least a week after tinting.

Routine cleaning and treatment with 303 of the door panel window seal will help prevent scratching the tint. Just roll down the windows and go to work. Moleskin or felt if you really feel the need, however be advised that (1) dirt can also be trapped in the moleskin/felt and (2) if the moleskin/felt starts to come off it will leave some adhesive behind, making a very messy situation. :paranoid:

As far as cleaning tinted windows, get a GOOD quality microfiber and use Stoner's (the spray pump is easier than aerosol) or my favorite - Plexus  http://www.plexusplasticcleaner.com/about.html

How's that? :dunno:
