: Thinking about getting in to Accord 2011 or 2012

I've been a mechanic for about 10 years and no stranger to Honda's. I was actually one of the first ones to turbo a base 5 speed Rsx. Later has Type-s (06')

Anyway, I'm thinking about trading in my Jeep Wrangler that is about 9 months old. I don't drive it often (has 4,000miles) I don't drive it to the beach or the mountains like I though we would (only been once). With 17mph hwy it's killing me in the pocket.

I see that alot of member have coupes vs sedans. I like a sedan and could get more use out of it I'm sure but is there a equal aftermarket parts out there as there is for the coupes. I like the HFP body kit and suspension

How are the real world MPG figures in the 4 vs 6 cylinder with auto transmission. I've had manual all my life and honest kinda of tired of it.

What options are you guys and gals getting.

Thanks
Everyone.

Coupe and Sedan use all of the same suspension parts. Completely interchangeable. A lot of parts are more dependent on the trim level than how many doors. For instance the LX (sedan or coupe) has smaller front brakes, and lower level I4 engine than the EX I4. HFP shocks, coilvers, strut bars, all can be mixed and matched between all of the same generation Accords.

I drove to LA this past weekend for the CaliAccord Meet, 340 miles round trip. I drove hard, not taking it easy; a lot of acceleration. I got 28.3 MPG in my highly modified V6 AT. I've gone over 31 when I was going steady speed with the family. A few easy mods and the AT can scream.

I have a wife and 8 year old daughter, and the coupe works great for me.

If you like the HFP lip, and you end up with a Sedan, check out the Modulo kit. It is nearly the same looking thing. Let us know if you have more questions!

Thanks!

The main reason going back to Honda is 1) I use to work for honda and I can do all my work my self but the reliability and MPG.

I dunno but 30miles a gallon doesn't seem that great to me from some odd reason

Trying to put a little money down as I possibly can. Trying to get something I can pay off in 3-4 years. If the payment stay around my payments now (412) even though I'll pay 450-500 I'm fine with that. Just trying to be debt free asap (I'm 24).

Artema I wasn't aware the coupe came with an auto transmission v6? When I purchased my sedan they said it was only available in mt. Unless he meant it was just sold out?

What mods really wakes up the v6? Wonder if hondata is going to crack the ecu or attempt to.

The biggest is always good tires and light wheels, but I'll list the rest in order of effectiveness.

P2R ported intake runners, big HP and torque boost
J-pipe/deleted 3rd cat, big power boost
Riser from the Acura MDX, pulls torque to lower RPM
Unorthodox aluminum crank pulley

You could get all 4 for a little over a grand, and it wouldn't feel like the same car. There are many more, but those are the ones I'm using and feel made the biggest difference. You can get deletes for the "pre-cats", which come straight out of the engine. They make a huge difference, but make the car drone loudly I've been told.

The only thing I would be caution about is the crank pulley if it is larger or smaller as it changes the RPM of accessories. I'm honestly leaning toward the i4 because of price and MPG. I have a gsxr 750 for speed and performance but the devil on my shoulder is saying go with v6.

The pulley stuff is known. They carry stock diameter (what I run) and two levels of underdrive.

The I4 honestly doesn't get much better milage. I get 350-475 per tank, depending on if I'm traveling (larger number for coasting in ECO).

Cool, some people just don't know. I could tell you some stories, like all of us probably could, that would make you go "wtf.."

With anything it comes down to price point. Does the i4 have clyinder shutdown or just the v6 (transmission matter?)

The sedan and coupe have V6, but the sedan is only AT. MT is only available in the coupe alone, and doesn't have VCM.

V6 Sedan: AT-VCM
V6 Coupe: AT-VCM or MT

i have the 08 model, and to tell u the truth, there wasn't much of a problem other than the usual maintenance, rear brakes, and the software update which also affected the 09 and 10's. since u are on the safe side, i say go for the 2011. save some money.

I have read the complaints of the 2008 Accord. I have only experienced the brakes being a problem but resolved with new ones. No other problems. Mileage is 25 city / 32 hwy. For the comfort and space the car gives, I have no complaints on the mileage.
I have 96,000 kms and have decided to put a few $$ into it and keep it another 2 yrs.

Lol yea I said that once. I have a cbr 600rr for my speed fix and I still went with the v6. Lol it's not a race car but it is fun to have a car that's not the slowest thing on the road. Lol I justify the mpg's by saying my v6 gets better mpg's than all trucks.

I've found that the i4's MPG isn't thattt great. I average maybe 26mpg local+highway. On highway, my scanguage usually says that I get 31-35mpg without any traffic. With traffic, it drops to around 26-30mpg.

Btw, I live in Los Angeles, so feel free to take that into account when I say "traffic"...

Local driving...I get maybe 18-24mpg. Overall, I'm not really happy with the mpg on this car. I feel like many other cars get better mpg...

Alot has to do with the closed course the MPG are founded on and the MPG they are founded at ...highway is 60 anything over and it will give you a different MPG number.

I'm debating if the v6 is really worth it as it will still be automatic. Can't get manual in 4 door.

I'm the proud owner of a 2011 ACCORD SEDAN EXL V6, if you want to check out the availabilty of after market parts for the sedan look no further than the DOOM thread .Its the most sinister looking 8th gen.accord sedan that I've ever seen!!!DAAPS TOO DOOM.

My 2011 I-4 sedan has done better than the window sticker since day one.

All city, I still get 28 mpg. My average mixed driving at the speed limit is creeping up actually. I see lots of tanks over 500 miles on the interstate. Running 70 mph with the cruise on droaning down the interstate, I see 34/35 mpg without trying. My last 90% interstate tank was 35.6 mpg and I ran 60 to 70 mph when I could.

I look at an Accord as a plain family car. Anymore power and I would rather go rear wheel drive with a posi. A V6 is a waste of money to me. :dunno:

Its a good size car with room and a decent trunk. I think the economy is really good for what it is and considering the age of the platform. I'll hit 33K in a couple days, it still drives like new, no warranty issues, nothing but oil and air filters.

I also get my speed needs from motorcycle riding, much cheaper than a fast sports car...

Have you dynoed your car before and after the engine mods? I was just curious how much whp those added.

Closest dyno to me is $175 for 3 runs. I did not. I'll try to arrange a dyno for next time I'm in LA (much cheaper). Could just compare it to stock dynos.

But those mods really make quite a considerable difference as far as the "butt dyno" is telling you? I'm happy to hear this. I didn't realize the V6 had good, inexpensive mod potential.

Yep, and I have an OBD2 adapter which I can connect the car to my laptop. I took readings and it is faster and more powerful. Just not as official as people would prefer.

I love the front end look of the 2 door but as I'm getting older a 4 door would be best for me as much as I hate to admit it.

Whats the best website to see HFP parts?

going looking at accord, sonata, opmtia

I share the same experience with my 2012 ex sedan, i get 21 mpg winter, 23 mpg summer. Mine is all short trip local driving in traffic. I'm am sure I'll do better on the highway. I've yet to take it on a long hw trip.

I am pretty sure my route is the worse case scenario, I just drive ~4 mi. a trip back and forth to work in traffic. By the time I get to my destination, the engine barely had time to warm up so fuel efficiency is probably at its worst.
