RE: Non-Compliance Campaign Announcement
Today, Honda Motor Co., Ltd., announced to NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) its intention to add a 3x5 postcard to some 2006 and 2007 model year Ownerfs Manuals that correctly identifies NHTSAfs new telephone number.
Basic Problem: Some 2006 and 2007 model year Ownerfs Manuals incorrectly list a private telephone number rather than NHTSAfs 1-888-327-4236 number. The wrong telephone number creates a non-compliance with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 577.5(g)(1)(vii).
Affected VINs: Affected VIN list is currently under process. American Honda will send every Honda Dealership a list of affected vehicles and 3x5 postcards in 2-3 weeks. The dealership will be entirely responsible for all legal consequences if any affected vehicle is sold or leased to a retail customer without the 3x5 correction postcard being inserted in the Ownerfs Manual.
Campaign Parts: Parts are not needed for this correction.
Repair Strategy: The repair is to insert a 3x5 correction postcard in the Ownerfs Manual prior to sale. A service bulletin will NOT be issued.
Customer Notification: Approximately 1.2 million vehicles are affected by this Non-Compliance Campaign. Notification and postcard will be mailed to all known owners in 2-3 weeks.
