Yes, that is amazingly easy. I also have a Pilot, and just finished the a/c filter change. I am a total clod at do-it-yourself projects, but that one was a breeze. Took 30 - 40 minutes, tops, and next time it will be about 15 minutes. Saved about $60, and i actually had fun doing it!:blah:

Thanks for the great information. I looked at a tech's book of directions and it appeared that a Doctorate Degree was required to change the filter! If it's as simple as it appears I'll be tickled.

How often do I need to change the cabin filter?

From previous experience I change mine between 10&12K. On my previous car the filter was just plain nasty @ 11K.

Pulled out mine yesterday. Wow, that thing was NASTY. Lots of leaves and black with soot from our clean new york air. Gonna check the dealer tomorrow to see if I can get a filter from them and replace it myself.

Folks,
I just replaced mine today. All I can say is, "Sheesh, why didn't I do this six months ago?!?"
Really, just squeeze in the sides of the glove compartment box, pop it out and let it hang down, then squeeze the tabs holding the filter holder in place, and pull it out. Not even a five-minute operation!
I got my filter from the local Honda dealer for $20.23, which I didn't think was too bad -- I was expecting it to be well over $30. I hadn't done a really exhaustive search, but the auto supply places I looked for a filter before didn't have them at all. So, again, it wasn't too bad.
And, here's the result:
http://home.comcast.net/~thoots2/cabinfilter.jpg
This was after about 10,700 miles. I'll probably do it every 5,000 miles from here on -- why not?

I checked mine today at just under 12,000 miles. It was full of leaves (on top) but was not horribly tacky. I knocked out most of the caca by tapping it upside down on the concrete. Then I took a spray duster (for computers) and blew the rest out. It wasn't that bad or discolored so I reinstalled it.
I then decided to check the filter in my Sweetie's Corolla....gross to the max. I had another as a back up and replaced it. The A/C blew about 15-20% stronger on high fan speed after the new one was installed.......even she noticed the difference without my telling her I replaced it!

28K and shy of 2 years. Mine was filthy and had pine needles and bugs in it. Changed it by just pulling down the glove box and pulling out the filter holder. Did the wife's Highlander at the same time. Similar set-up. Her's was not so bad after only a year. I'll start changing the Accord every year now. Shame it is $26.95 for filter element. Seems like a bunch of money for what you get.

Just changed the filters on our two cars over the weekend. The Accord job was really easy, while the MPV took a tad more muscle. And thanks to all for the write-ups (this & other threads too). They all helped.

From thread: http://www.driveaccord.net/forums/showthread.php?t=456&page=3&pp=15&highlight=cabin+filter
these are the instructions:
http://www.troublecodes.net/articles/cabinair.shtml
Be careful - I think there is a very important third screw you have to remove...
From the same thread:
DANGER DANGER!!!
There's a third, very important screw that they missed. It's under a small snap-out panel in the center stack.
If you follow their instructions and start pulling, you'll see where it's not pulling out. That's where the screw is. If you keep pulling, you'll break the trim panel.

Did the replacement less than 5 mins. tops (including going online and printing out the PDF instructions, yup I'm that kind of car owner  ) Here's a couple of pics of may CAF at 15K. The Accord is our daily driver at around 98% NW Chicago suburbs driving. With the 15K "gunk baseline", I will now change CAF every 7500 miles. Thanks again to driveaccord.net!

makes this site so GREAT! Here I was dreading removing screws and stuff...
I did it in less than a minute. The only thing I might add is that on mine, I had to push in to let the door drop down on the left, and on the right, there is a little hook that has to be removed from the door (part of the closure/cushioning mechanism).

I got it done today, it did need it. (after nearly 130k mi). I have to admit it was pretty dirty, with a few leaves and whatnot in it, but from the comments about 10 and 11K changes I thought I'd find a grilled cheese sandwich in there. I dunno if my A/C is going to pump harder tomorrow or not, glad it's done, but not sure If I'll worry about it again for another 100K if even then. Time to get to the tranny fluid, brake fluid, drive belt, paint touchups and interior detail. (If there's anything I do keep up, its the waxing.)

Local Dealer's generic [all model] service menu lists cabin filter replacement at $125. [Although, I do understand not all are as easy as 7th Gen.] Thanks to the directions on this thread, did it in 5 minutes for the cost of the filter, $20. Didn't even have to empty the glove compartment, just propped it up temporarily with a Kleenix box standing on end.

Does it matter which way you put in the filter? I didn't check the filter orientation when I pulled it out, so not sure if I put it in correctly. Any pointers? Which way does the air go through the filter: top to bottom or vice versa?
If you bought the OEM filter, there are arrows on the side indicating direction of flow. There should also be corresponding arrows on the filter drawer, too. Make sure they're matched up.

Just wanted to add that the Fram "Fresh Breeze" CF10134 filter fits nicely ($17 at O'Reilly's). The old one had "Filtertech" on the side of it and didn't fill the frame quite as well, and was lighter in comparison. It took all of 2 minutes to change. Great group and great site!

Changed mine and it looked alittle black. So I vacumed it and then ran warm water through it, kinda like a K&N airfilter. I let it dry and sprayed some smell good vanilla car sent on it and then put it in. Next time I will replace it but it seems to be doing great right now. Nice thread.

hmm..still expensive..I think Imma buy a furnance filter of 20x20 at HD and cut it up the right size, only problem is these filters have a height of 1inch vs the actual filter which is about 1.33? Is this a bad idea?

I just took a look behind the glove box and it does appear that the cabin filter is located there. No pictures, since I did not want to mess with the alignment hook. See this thread for alignment hook adjustment. http://www.driveaccord.net/forums/showthread.php?t=19132
I think he confirmed it. Hope it helps.
