View Full Version : Auto Cool (AS SEEN ON TV)
faderrific 08-07-2006, 08:06 AM Am I lame for thinking I need to buy this? http://www.tvproducts4less.com/auto-cool.html
I know 95% of all "As seen on TV" products usually suck and don't work for crap, but I'm desperate here. My car is dark gray with black leather interior and dark window tinting. It doesn't help that I live in Southern California where it's always sunny. I get in my car at lunch and it's like sitting in an oven.
I already roll down the windows as I'm walking up to the car with the remote to hopefully let out most hot air, but it's still a blazing.
:dunno:
andysinnh 08-07-2006, 08:18 AM I think there was either a string here or in the Honda Pilot forum on this - and some folks had tried it and it didn't do much. Apparently the volume of air that the fan moves isn't enough to really do anything significant.
To me, the most important thing is to get a set of ventvisors to leave the windows cracked during the day, and have a windshield insert that reflects the sunlight. On my Pilot LX, there isn't any dark-tint on the rear windows and it gets like a greenhouse on hot days (grey interior, blue exterior). On my Accord LX it's desert mist with ivory interior, and it doesn't get as hot because of the colors...
phoenix 08-07-2006, 08:52 AM This may help. http://www.infomercialratings.com/product/auto_cool_reviews their reviews are by real people (I hope).
SSMV6 08-07-2006, 08:55 AM It's not going to work... The blazing heat is coming from the dash and seats sitting in the sun for a few hours and acting like a radiation heater. You could leave the windows cracked open, close the sunroof shade, put up a sun screen on the windshield, and (very important) park facing away from the sun. and the should cut the heat down more than the Auto-Cool..
Besides, could you see yourself using that thing every time you park your car? I know I'll stop using it after a few days because of the hassle.
MADGSF 08-07-2006, 10:44 AM On my second car with a black leather interior in Texas and I agree with the information above with one small change. Use a reflective windshield sun screen and park facing the sun so it can do the most good. Unless you have a rear window sun screen that you also put up facing away from the sun will let in too much energy, even with tint.
billinaz 08-07-2006, 07:27 PM I tried it.
Piece of junk, and you are leaving your windows open so that its easier to get in your car....
AccordingToThis 08-07-2006, 09:58 PM Wait, you can roll down the windows with the remote? I know you can do it with the key, but I haven't done it with the remote before. Is that just on 05 and up?
BenjiBoy650 08-07-2006, 10:00 PM Try holding down the unlock button for a long time...I think that's how it works.

its 03 and up i believe. Just hold the unlock botton for a bit and the window should roll down.
Anzial 08-07-2006, 10:41 PM IIRC, you have to press unlock button twice - once to unlock driver door, second - to unlock the rest and if you hold it during the second time, it rolls down the windows... What I don't like is how weak the signal is, if you are walking and trying to roll down the windows, the signal breaks and windows stop moving :(
BenjiBoy650 08-07-2006, 10:46 PM Put the key to your chin. I wasn't a believer but after a long time of trying it in random places, I think it really works. YMMV

To roll up the window, you lock the door with the key (yes put the key into the door lock), lock it once and then twist it agin and hold it until the windows go up or stop when you get it to where you want it.

putting the remote to your chin does really work. i dont know why but it does  :notworthy
BenjiBoy650 08-07-2006, 11:22 PM It turns your big head into an antenna...some people say it might not be good for your brain, in which case they should probably chuck their cell phone in the trash
VTECaddict 08-07-2006, 11:27 PM my remote has REALLY short range and the chin thing doesnt seem to help much. :(

Now that I didn't know, I'll have to try that this morning.

Try changing the batteries... The window roll-down thing was for '03 and up with the built in keyless entry (maybe with the exception of early DX models).
