Has anyone installed a small sub with amplifier in a 2004 Accord sedan. I have the 6 cd in dash unit. I have replaced the factory speakers front and rear with Polk and I still feel that something is missing. It was reccomended that I replaced the head unit but I will loose a lot. (Navigation contrlols, audio controls, etc. Any recomendations is appreciated.

I think Honda makes one as an accessory but it's probably on the expensive side. I've seen some powered subs because I wanted one myself. I was told to stay away from Bazooka, and besides that I think there's only Infinity BassLink which is pretty pricey as well as a pretty substantial unit. Have you considered running a small 2 channel amp for your rear speakers? I've heard that it helps.

Replacing the factory head unit on the new accords is a lot to compromise and i don't think its worth the improved sound. A Sub is very important to sound quality because it gives you the deep bass which to me is as important as the high's. Music sounds very flat without bass or highs. With a more expensive sound system you would connect your amplified subs to the sub out RCA wires on the head unit. However i don't think the factory head units have sub out rca, you could use your rear speaker wires to connect it to an amp with a crossover (converts the mids frequency's to low frequency's so sub isn't distorted). That would really be what i do if i was in that your situation. The subs and amp combo are usually up to what kind of system you want but since your probably going to keep the stock head unit i would keep the bass simple too. The basslink from infinity has really good lows and is known for very nice sound quality (sq). the basslink isn't an spl sub so its not suppose to really rattle your car. If you look on ebay you could probably find a new one for $200 including shipping. And the basslink also has a remote which is very useful to control how much bass you want from the driver seat.

The stock headunit is pretty good, but doesn not have RCA output. I would recommend using a Line Output Converter to get the RCA jacks. I have one from Soundgate that has very good sound quality, and it was only like $40. Hook up your power, and just use the 12v accessory plug in the center armrest box thing as your remote wire (powers on when key is in ignition). Then you're goos to go. Or you can find an amp with line level inputs, but I don't know about the sound quality of those...

I too want to improve the sound but I don't know how to do it with the HU. I guess I need to have a shop to do it for me and got ripp off by them.

I've seen on ebay a kit to install an aftermarket head unit under the stock unit, where the big pocket is, thus leaving the climate control/navigation in place.......

I have the Accord 6 w/navi,and replace my dealer speakers and added a 2 way amp for rear speakers and I'm loving it.But
I seems to run across a little problem when sounds is level is around 35-40.The navi CD is on the same platform as the speaker. I've notice my map guid freezing (stuck) up:eek:

Sorry to bump this old thread, but does anyone have pics of their Infinity BassLink installation?

I'm thinking of putting one in my '04.

The stock 120 watt system is great for highs and mids but the bass sucks.

I've seen people recommending the BassLink as the ideal sub for the Accord.

How does it sound? How does it look? How much trunk space did you have to give up? Any tips on concealing the wires?

What about issues with alternator whine?

Anyone got any advice on the BassLink?

Thanks!

I had a Basslink in a previous car, not an Accord, but an 03 Passat.

It sounded great, but I'm not an audiophile so I don't know "clean" it is, etc....

It had plenty of "punch", way more than I needed. I have no desire to rattle windows.

I wish I had not sold it, now. Oh, well....

Here is what I have done to my 2003 Accord LX 4-banger's sound system, (about a year ago). I wasn't interested in spending mega dollars but I did want to "feel" my music.

Added the Honda MP3 player - Works nice, intregates into the OEM sound system, does not display song and album information. Does play WMA (Windows) sound files also.

I am currenty adding a AUX adapter from Soundgate to "hardwire" my Roady XM radio and a iPod 4G using an electronic AUX switch also from Soundgate. I don't like the FM transmiter, too much interference here in the Los Angeles area.

I realy don't need the Honda MP3 player anymore with the iPod installed, but I'll probably leave it in place for now.

Replaced Rear Deck Speakers - JBL GTO935 6"x9" 3-way Speakers

Replaced Front door Speakers - Kenwood KFC-1668S 6-1/2" 2-way Speakers

Factory dashboard tweeters were retained.

Added Sub woofer - Bazooka EL10A-HP 10" 100 watt max Powered Subwoofer

Bazooka F.A.S.T. wiring harness for Honda/Acura to tie into OEM radio wiring harness, (No cutting or splicing) for the subwoofer system.

PAC BB-150A2 Bass Blockers 1 pair with Terminals, 150hz/4ohm for front door speakers to eliminate bass too low for the 6.5" speakers.

Bazooka UMS10A 10" Universal Mounting System, better mounting system for the sub woofer than what comes with the unit.

Bazooka RBCM-EL Remote Bass Control Module for amplified EL. Allows me to adjust the gain on the subwoofer from the drivers seat.

Dynamat 19100 License Frame Kit - Eliminate major vibration caused by the rear license plate.

I'm very happy with my setup and it didn't cost me an Arm & Leg. Make sure you mount the sub-woofer in the right rear corner of the trunk otherwise you don't get the full effect (I first mounted the sub-woofer right behind the rear seat, not a effective location). Sound is excellent all the way up to maximum (40)! Could use a little more power to the front and rear speakers but overal not bad, not bad at all.

I ordered almost everything through http://www.cutchfield.com/

Wow.

While that sounds nice, I certainly don't want to do that much. The front speakers are OK for my needs. I just need a little more punch.
