View Full Version : anyone DRIVING anywhere for vacation?
princess 03-18-2004, 11:44 AM We have a road trip to Disneyland going on in May....but this Summer we'll be flying, then renting. Last time we got an Olds Alero (sp?). gutless! I wonder what we'll get this time....... As long as the A/C works, we'll be fine!
benjamming 03-18-2004, 02:48 PM My wife & I are planning on driving to Hershey, PA for our 5 year anniversary in late August this year. I figure it will be ~ 800 miles each way. The longest trip in our Accord so far is about 250 miles each way. We've not even had an entire tank of gas strictly interstate.
princess 03-18-2004, 03:30 PM Is there something special you plan to visit in Hershey? Or is this just a getaway to somewhere away from home for the fifth year celebration?
benjamming 03-18-2004, 04:48 PM It's where they make Hershey chocolate. They have an amusement park there. Well, yeah it's just somewhere to go I guess. It was her idea. I just do as I'm told:D
BenjiBoy650 03-18-2004, 10:14 PM If we could drive to Malaysia/Singapore, probably would. But we can't so we aren't :)
princess 03-19-2004, 01:47 PM We have a chocolate factory a little south of us, near Modesto. Been there on a feildtrip with the kids. They don't have an amusement park though. If they did I'd go more often! What a "sweet" combination, chocolate & an amusement park!!:D
Also been to Ghirardelli Square & the Jelly Belly Jelly Bean Factory. YUM!
BJ, Congratulations on the fifth.....still newlyweds! Never stop dating (each other) it makes a big difference! After 29 years, we still date.
BB, No, I don't think driving to Malaysia would work. No other vacations planned? You've talked about several places & posted pictures of trips, so I figured you'd probably have something big planned for this Summer.
BenjiBoy650 03-19-2004, 03:43 PM I've been to a lot of places and taken a lot of pictures, that's why we're out of places to go. We've driven I-5 from Vancouver to Tijuana and went East from here to Mt. Rushmore. That's basically everything within reasonable driving distance lol. My mom was talking about Hawaii but I said no. Hawaii is a relaxation spot. When we go on vacation it's even harder than going to work. Wake up early, see stuff all day and sleep late. My parents don't like relaxing...why would they go to Hawaii? And we hate heat too! So yeah haha. Any suggestions? :)
jbuffethed 03-21-2004, 04:12 PM I will be driving a whoppin 1 mile to the Amtrak station to Minneapolis, then flying to Chicago, to Tampa, for my sisters wedding for 2 weeks. I dont know if I can handle putting those 2 miles on my car :)
princess 03-21-2004, 04:29 PM You're not leaving your baby in a parking lot while you're gone, are you???!!!
jbuffethed 03-21-2004, 08:00 PM no, that driving part was a joke, it is stayin in my garage. Cant wait for FL though
princess 03-22-2004, 06:49 AM Enjoy your thaw!!!:)
taking a week off in april. should have the 1st 500 miles done by then. probably taking a bunch of day trips around New England.
princess 03-22-2004, 09:00 PM Where around NE might you be thinking of going in April??
Welcome to the board!:D
we are just south of Boston, so the entire area is in day trip range. tenatively going to the Maine coast, Newport, RI, and the casinos in CT. now that the big dig is essentially finished, we'll have to go into Boston to see what it looks like without the elevated expressway uglying up the place.
princess 03-24-2004, 04:36 PM benjamming, I just saw a travel channel thing on Hershey, PA.....it looks likes fun!!! I LOVE wild coasters! You'll have a great time!! I'd never realized how much there is there......:D & chocolate too!!
benjamming 03-24-2004, 07:02 PM yeah, that's where she got the idea. But the fact that it was on tv turns me off the idea. When we were in Hawaii we were trying to decide where to eat so we went to Food Network's website. They had Tidepools at the Hyatt listed. So we tried it. It was the most expensive place we ate at the entire time & was also the worst. It was great scenery (they filmed 6 Days 7 Nights there) but the food wasn't very good.
princess 03-25-2004, 10:28 AM They can't always be wrong!!
I'm thinking about adding Bucsh Gardens to our FL trip. I saw the thing on TV about it & 2 of their coasters look like fun! We'll decide after we get there. We did Universal Studios & Adventure Island & the Space Center last time.
We're thinking about a Hawaiian cruise for our 30th anniversary next year. We've never done a cruise before, but it sounds like a great way to do the Islands. No checking in & out of hotels to hop around. We'll do some homework & see if it's for us. It would have to stop places where we want to see things & stay for long enough to do it all.
I'm sure you'll have a good time at Hershey. Hopefully you're a choc-a-holic!
BenjiBoy650 03-25-2004, 09:36 PM I just got back from a cruise and its so different from our typical rushed vacation. Example: Trip to Yellowstone, 4300 miles, 8 days, Salt Lake City, Yellowstone, Mt. Rushmore, Denver, Phoenix, LA, and back. The cruise was so relaxed...it was exactly what I needed after sophomore year. I felt so at peace. The thing is though, that the boat is so beautiful that you never want to get off at port! And our boat was pretty old too haha. And of course at port, everything is expensive, especially in Hawaii. Oh yeah, you gain a lot of weight if you don't pay attention to what you eat. We ordered like what 4 appetizers, 2 main dishes, and a dessert for each person on some nights. So yeah check into it, you might like it :)
princess 05-10-2004, 08:04 AM We'll be leaving at dawn Thursday for this DL trip. We'll be home Sunday night. I'm looking so forward to checking out our Tower of Terror! My favorite is down for major remodeling, Space Mt.
We'll be filming all the rides again for comparing to the FL trip. He's started the editing & planning for a split screen DVD. It will have Eeyore mking comments about which rides are shorter or longer. It starts with the Star Wars music & lettering fading back explaining that it's the War between CA & FL parks!! It's going to be fun! Any of the FL rides we've compared before are shorter than DL. The only one that's exactly the same is Star Tours. Anyway, just planning in advance!;)
It's been unseasonably cool here lately (thanks BB!), so we'll probably come home burnt & melted!
I can never sleep the night before we go! Just like as kid!
