What's the usually Galveston area temps like around Halloween.... not just this year, but the norm? :dunno:

We plan to be there NEXT Halloween.... technically a couple of days before.

Well, the Dallas area is usually still in the low-mid 70s in late October.... I'd guess the Galveston/Houston area would average a few degrees warmer, since its further south... maybe upper 70s...

I'm surprised stiller fan hasn't replied yet...

Doesn't NOAA have like historical weather data? I might have a link or two.

I have NOAA links, I want to know what it's really like. :D NOAA gets our area wrong all the time.

The 70's would feel warm to us coming out of OAK, but pretty much the same as home.

Of course, here we just went from 100 to 70 a couple of days ago & I'm freezing!! A 25 degree drop over night was quite a shock to the toes!!

I'm glad its finally starting to cool off. Yesterday was the first day in 2 1/2 months I could turn off the AC at night.

So I fly out of Boston to Houston on Sunday and spend 3 days there, then wednesday fly from Houston to San Fran, then friday fly back to Boston. Should be a weather blend in these 3 locales...

bring a jacket for SF! It's pretty much always in the 60s. The sun does actually shine a little in the Fall there though.

A jacket, for 60 degrees? If I bring a jacket to Cal and it's 60+ I'm usually cursing about having to carry it around all day :lmao: Maybe Andy will get lucky and hit Indian summer

Galveston is pretty nice in Oct/Nov time. For October the temperature low to high averages 70-80. You drop that about 10 degrees for November. You can add 3-5 degrees for San Antonio. Typical Halloween for trick or treaters in San Antonio is around 75. You won't typically see jackets, but the kids don't cook in their costumes.

Thanks, Wards!

So I guess the typical layers when we fly... we always freeze in OAK... but it seems where ever we fly is warmer... :dunno:

That may change when we go to Seattle for an Alaskan cruise :)

So it's still dry for Halloween there? Our rainy season starts Oct 15th, but there's usually not much. It has drizzled on Halloween though. It's when we start getting a chill at night.

Ben, to most of us the 60s are chilly! Not COLD yet, but a sweater or jacket would sound good. Were now down to barely hitting the 80s here.... we're supposed hit 90 on Monday...but I'll believe it when I see it. It won't be long till I'll be digging out the fleece! :paranoid:

Rainy season in Texas? You're funny Princess. :lmao: :lmao:

No, actually October is really nice weather in Southern Texas. I think Wards hit the tems right on. You should bring a jacket anways as the humidty might make it feel a bit cooler than the temp suggests, but I venture to guess that you will enjoy yourself in Texas during that time of year.

Let's see - around here in the winter, when the temps hit 40 degrees I stop wearing my jacket into the office in the morning - drives the receptionist nuts. I may not bring a jacket at all - it'll be 80 here tomorrow when I leave, 90 in Houston and 60/70 in SF - who needs to take up space in the suitcase!!!

We lived in Wichata Falls TX for the Fall of '75...It poured down rain for nearly the 3 months with sunshine everyday too. They told us "If you don't like the weather, wait a few minutes & it'll change." It was true!! It seemed like one minute you'd have water up to your knees... the next you needed some sunscreen! It just seems like being closer to the water that Galveston should be cold....like here.

It's weird, I just can't seem to get it through my head that ocean areas can actually be warm! You'd think after HI & FL & Nassau, I'd understand that WE'RE the ones that's different!!

Well, Andy, you're probably going to do just fine. The damp cold air over by the bay is nasty to me. It feels like their 60 is colder than our 60. If the suns out, like it usually is in the Fall & Winter in SF, you may melt!! :) It's very pretty when the sun is shining. Last year, when we were there for Labor Day is was the perfect weather. Sunny & warm....but not hot. I think it made it to 70 or just past!! I even took off my sweat shirt!! Ben was melting. :lmao:

Saxdogg,
Just give me some time so I can research some places. When were you thinking of comming? Some things close and some open....(the Royal Gorge is a wonderful sight)..

You could always get a tour of USAFA if you'd like, I have no problem showing people what their tax dollars pay for  :D

Andy, don't you just love it when you can feel the weight of the air from all the humidity??!!

Which day were you coming out to SF? It's supposed to be nice out here this week. I'm hoping there's some sun for you in the afternoon so you can see both sides of the SF weather. There's no rain expected for a while.... so don't bring any with you!! I gotta do those scuba lessons!! Some of it's without the wetsuit!!

Ben, they took a long time getting Devil's Slide fixed! I'm glad it's looking good....

You saw it before this year's rains washes it away again!! :lmao:

I fly in weds evening (get in to SFO at like 8:30pm), then drive down to cupertino and santa clara for the next day, and fly back to boston on friday morning. Not sure whether my work meetings will end at 5 or not - if so, I may do some sightseeing on the way back up to the hotel near the airport.... I brought no coat, no umbrella - throwing caution to the wind!!!

You will have WONDERFUL weather!! It's actually supposed to be unseasonably warm over there!! On Sat. some of the coast is supposed to be 80!! (sorry Ben!) Enjoy your time there. Try to venture over to the wharf or/and Golden Gate Park.

There's beatiful drives both north & south. So if you have the time, pick a direction & head out hwy 1. (easier south from where you are) Ben lives pretty close, maybe you guys can find the time to hook up! :D

Steve, that's a generous offer, but I wouldn't want you to spend any time figuring that stuff out. I have been out of net access for about a week and just checked in. I forgot I posted this back when we were just brainstormin'.

I've since gotten us a hotel room and some basic plans laid out for Thanksgiving week. So far, we will drive Pike's Peak, hit the Royal Gorge park (nice find), see the mountaintop zoo, and check out garden of the gods and cave of the winds. I had also thought about the base if we have time...you work there I take it!??!

If there's anything local that the "average tour" wouldn't tell you about, but that I should see, let me know. You know, the cool stuff off the beaten path....maybe good mexican food? Hole in the wall place I should eat? :)
