I searched and found nothing about this so here goes...I installed a CAI on my 2000 Accord LX Coupe 4cyl. At times during acceleration it whistles pretty loudly and sounds kinda cool, but is getting annoying...Is this sound normal? Its an APC Intake by the way...Thanks for all your help!!!

It's pretty normal. Some people put that on just for the sound. If you don't like the whistle just put your stock airbox back on because it actually doesn't make that big a difference on our cars. I think it actually hurts a little bit under normal driving conditions.

Cool, I feel a lil better!!! Actually I shaved a half to a full second off my 0 to 60, as it growls and turns heads...The ECU is pumping more gas into the engine tho...Thus worse gas mileage as you mentioned!!! :) headers and test pipe are the next experiment... Thanks for helping me out!!!!!

I heard that if you flash/reset the ECU it might get slightly better mileage but I'm not sure. It's worth a try, I think it's not hard. Something like disconnecting the battery for a minute. I'll try and dig that up for you on the other forum.

BTW for mods and stuff Honduh.com is a bit better, we tend to be more maintenance/upkeep here. You're still welcome here though!

Cool, Ill give it a shot!!! (Honduh.com) And I reset the ecu already by removing the negative battery cable for about 15 minutes... If Ive learned correctly after you do that it senses the air/fuel ratio and adjusts it according the amount of air... More air more fuel obviously... As long as I drive normally I still get a hundred miles on a full tank before the needle moves... Thanks

100 miles before the needle moves? I eat 1/3 of a tank every 100 miles and you're complaining? lol

Naah, I was bragging!!! lol... Kind of off topic but due to this topic... My valves are alot noisier now,(since the CAI) Im going to have them adjusted on Monday, 89.95$ at the Honda dealership. Im going to post a topic if anyone can tell me if its worth the money, or even necessary!?!

I don't think it's necessary because my dad has put on a lot of miles (almost 500K combined) on Honda's and I doubt that he has ever adjusted the valves. I'd say not to worry but it's only $90, might as well. It's just good maintenance if you want to go by the book.

Or just turn your radio up :)

yeah, the sound is normal, that's the sucking sound from the air intake, hey, why APC? you shouldn've gone with AEM, come on man.

Yeah, make sure you you spend an extra $200.00 for a little sticker that says AEM and possibly 1 or 2 extra HP! LOL!!!

You laugh but you don't realize there are actually advantages. And the whole AEM CAI costs only $150. If APC works for you, that's great. I wouldn't go cheap on something that could possibly ruin the engine by letting dirt or water in though :dunno:

the intake is really just the filter and thats the thing i wouldnt go cheap on the filter is the thing that really counts. Look just buy a intake system on ebay for like $35 total shipping included and from there dump the shitty of a filter in the trash, or sell it on ebay for like $15. Then go to your local auto store and by a K&N filter, let me repeat that a K&N FILTER not a juncky look alike inlet and while your at is by the charger kit. Those filters are great but you get a deeper sound, plus you can re-use them. Its costs about $70 for the filter but i went to the warehouse and got it for $50
(saved a little so sue me). A pipe is a pipe, well mine looks the damn same as the AEM's with the bolt brackets and everything just not the sticker.

 I've seen home made intakes that work great, as long as you use a top notch filter. HKS makes filters too.

adjusting the valves isnt really necessary. I stopped adjusting my valves on my old crx after about 150k miles because I never noticed a difference after it was done..the sound didnt go away either. In fact I adjusted them myself once after letting them go about 60k miles and found that they were all fine. Only a couple were SLIGHTLY out of adjustment (out of 16 valves). I found that the sound is really due to dirty valves / carbon deposits. just use a bottle of fuel injector cleaner (one that cleans valves too) and it should help. A good one is the 'Techron fuel injector plus' in a black bottle.

keep the stock air box and put your apc pipe to it with a k&n drop in filter .....sounds the best.....oh yea and dont forget to take off the box in the wheel well

I think AEM's intake are more than just a homemade pipe. My vehicle before the accord I have right now was a Chevy Colorado and it was the actual truck that AEM used to design there intake for the Colorado. It was great since I got a free intake. However they did have the vehicle for 3 weeks and then later another week for final testing. I was in their shop a few times and saw how many different prototype they wen't through until the engineer was satisfied on the final product. They also dyno'd different diameters. Not to go on too long but I just thought they do deserve due credit for they work and time they take on their intakes.

No one questions the work that AEM does...but in the end, if you're only gaining 5HP from an intake at 5500RPM...I can bet a homemade pipe will work just as well. How much worse could it be if 3 weeks of research yielded only 5HP, is one hour worth of custom "fabrication" only going to net 0.001HP? I don't think so.

5HP is 5HP. I still think comparing an engineered product no matter which brand (AEM, Injen, or K&N) to a homemade pipe is a bit of a knock to those products. That's all.

Like you said, 5HP is 5HP...if my homemade product can make 5HP just like the AEM version...AEM deserves to be knocked out of the water

You can look at some cars with very good intake setups like the ITR, you put any kind of homemade or professionaly made intake on them, most of the time they lose power, dyno proven.

Hey if you have training or knowledge in the subject by all means go for it. I was refering to guys thinking a metal tube with a filter is the same as an engineered part minus the sticker.
