Sat. PM we were settled in watching the movie Gothika & started hearing noises that didn't seem to go with the scenes. Those of you with surround sound know that it's more fun when you have it loud enough that the thunder shakes your home....

Prince got up & looked out back...there was a guy standing there with "deer eyes" saying I wasn't coming in your yard. He was already IN the yard & the gate was completely off it's hinges! He ran away saying someone was after him. During these seconds I'd grabbed the phone & dialed 911. The police arrived VERY quickly.

We don't live in a high crime area of town. The police questioned some kids at the park 4 houses away. I walked down there & told him they weren't the one I saw.

The therory is that it was a crack head being paranoid. He'd climbed our fence, then couldn't get the gate open to get out. I'm not sure why....he'd unlatched it, but pushed it the wrong way VERY hard I busted it down! He left his stuff....an odd assortment....behind: a trench coat, a roto-zip in a case, an empty jewlry box & a interior door knob set in a baggy. The box & knob had landed in the pool.

In case you're wondering....both dogs were inside with us, so neither barked.

The officers that came were extremely nice & one helped my prince get the gate back up & didn't leave until all was secure. (He did tease me about my kid style shoes that light up):D

Oh don't show me that! You'd never believe all the gadgets we have here!!! Ones he couldn't find, he made!

He made a sensor when the grandkids were babies to alert us if they got within 2 feet of the fireplace. Our pool pump not only turns on when there's a 10 degree difference of the water & solar panels, but also if the panels get to 32 to keep them from freezing in the winter. All of the exterior doors talk to us. The computer picture can come over the 36" TV & the sound over the surround sound system....even though the computer has 6 of it's own speakers! Our ceiling fans & their lights work on separate wall switches. Our room's fans/lights are not only remote but dim by either door.

Some are low tech.....there's nails with cut off heads at the easiest access point to climb the fence from the front yard. Thorny rose bushes planted in front of windows.

I just smile & roll my eyes when he comes up with another one......

I can't even remember most anymore, it's such a way of life! I will admit there have been times I've made a comment about "wouldn't it be neat if..." next thing I know there it is!

We were so lucky with the intruder! So many what if's that didn't happen! Having a feild with a walking path/ bike trail behind the house, we do try to be aware. I'd have to put that sensor thing outside of the yard though or the dogs would set it off! The house itself is all alarmed & after this we may end up with yard alarm gadgets too!!

There was that split second that I wondered if I should grab the phone or a gun. He keeps a round of buck shot in the little 22 pistol, for that kind of thing. I HATE guns, but I'm a great shot! Of course, at the range the bigger rifles would nearly knock me on my butt! I think I made the right choice in grabbing the phone. I was in shock over how quick the police arrived!!

Most of the things he's added around here are because he's so protective of me. I'm alone when he's at work & he wants me to feel safe. Funny thing is that I really don't mind being alone & I'm not afraid at all. It IS different at night when someone has come in your yard though!:)

Concord and Antioch seem to have their crime rates going up in recent months/years. Kind of scares me. My theory is that its the side effect of this expensive bay area housing, and more bad poor people are moving into the out skirts of the bay area (like Antioch and Concord).

Gun or phone? Hell why not both. Better the phone first and dial first too....otherwise might accidentaly "dial" the trigger instead of the number :)

I'm much more talented in phone use than gun use. :D

The officer thought it would've been wonderful if the intruder had fallen in & drown in the pool. We laughed, but that thought really grosses me out! I don't know if I could enjoy it again.....:(

Speaking of the pool....it's now all warmed up....82 today (we actually like it at 90).....guess what our plans are for tomorrow.....;)

Hope you enjoy your weekend, all!:D
