I've searched through all 42 pages in this forum. Read through all applicable threads and I can't find my solution.

Problem:
The light that illuminates my ODOMETER and CLOCK work ONLY when the headlights are turned off. Also, when the headlights are changed from the OFF position, not only do the Odometer light and Clock light turn off, but the lights for the Gauges (speedometer, rpms, etc.) do not come on anymore. I have NO idea why this is occurring. Can anyone help me?

P.S.: I'm brand new to this forum and it looks like you guys/gals are VERY good with finding solutions to peoples problems.

P.S.S.: From the looks of things, PRINCESS, you rock! lol.

Edit: All my fuses are good.

It is probably just dimmed. If you turn the dimmer (the same thing you use to reset the trip odometer), it will change it. There is a setting when the headlights are on and there is a setting when they are off.

So:
1 Turn on the headlights
2 Turn the trip odometer reset stick to the right (or left) and it should change.

Its not dimmed. I've tried that as well.

Have you tried it with the headlights on though? Not trying to be stupid here, just want to be clear that it is separate. If that isnt it. Not sure if it would be a problem with the dimmer switch or not. Got any electrical views of this Princess?

Not exactly sure this is the same on the 6th gen or not though.

Yep, I've tried it with the headlights on. And trust me, I'm glad for any help, so no, you're questions aren't stupid.

Have you checked all your fuses? Just a random guess

sounds like a short.... :dunno:

Remove the gauge assembly (A).

Disconnect the 22P connector (B).

Measure resistance between the B4 and B5 terminals while rotating the adjusting dial. Resistance should vary from 0 to 20,000 ohms as the dial is rotated.

Thank's everyone that took the time out to help. I haven't gotten the chance to attempt to fix the problem as of yet, but everyone's help was amazing.

Hopefully my stay on this board will be as good as my first post.

Peace.

Good luck, let us know what you end up with. It will be good to have a fix catalogued here if it starts to happen to more people.

I have exactly the same problem on my 98 Accord V6 since the last 1 week. The radio, odometer & Radio lights go off if the Headlight switch is shifted from the off position, and the gauge lights do not come on. I checked the fuse #9 on the driver's side fuse box, and it is fine.
I was wondering if anybody has fixed this kind of problem. I will probably check all the fuses this weekend.

JuniorSpades --- any fixes you did for your problem as per your OP ??

Sometimes when strange reactions like this happen, it is a bad ground somewhere.

One easy test could be to make a temporary jumper wire that goes from the clamp bolt on the negative side of the battery, to somewhere on the body of the car, under a clean bolt. A fender bolt, or one on the firewall could be OK.

If the issue goes away, you found the problem.

Thank you all for the quick response. I will try the ground test as soon as I get a chance.

Regarding the multiplex suggestion, I was reading up the Accord multiplex issues on other threads here and on other Accord forums. One suggestion is a reset. Can somebody give guidance to what are the Driver side multiplex reset procedure for 1998 Accord Sedan V6? I do not yet have access to the SM.

Greetings All:

I now have access to the SM (1998-2002 Accord) and the V6 supplement.

This is what I have done so far:

A. Removed Instrument panel (SM 20-84) and Gauge Assembly (SM 22-68).
B. Performed the Dash Lights Brightness Controller test (SM 22-114 & Princess's previous post in this thread).
I am getting 0-20 Kohms between B4-B5, which is good.
C. Checked No 9 (7.5A) fuse in the Driver's under-dash fuse box and the No 13 (7.5A) fuse in the passenger's under dash fuse box using a multi-meter & visual inspection (SM 22-137) Both fuses are good.

I have not done the Driver's side multiplexor troubleshooting, as this requires the SCS Service connector 07WAZ-001010A to be connected to the multiplex control inspection connector. This appears to be a 3 cavity harness with the 1-3 shorted.

Does anybody have any experience in this trouble shooting. If the trouble shooting subsequently gives a failure, and the driver's side multiplex need replacement, is this procedure in the SM / has anybody done this replacement?

Additionally I need some help in replacing low fuel indicator bulb in the gauge assembly. The bulb base / holder as looked from the back side is a circular white plactic knob (The V6 is a bit different from the I4). There are other smaller bulb bases which are black and can be removed by a quarter counter clockwise turn. All the white ones are stuck. What is the procedure to remove these bigger white bulb bases?

Thank You.
