I own a Canadian version 2003 Accord EX-L and I have noticed that on the center cap of the 16" alloy rims there seems to be a weird white substance...that can't be removed. It resembles the white corrosive stuff that is found on battery terminals? Has anyone had a similar experience? Is there a TSB regarding this problem?

The center caps are usually plastic with a chrome film and a clear coat cover...
Is it on top of clear or below? My guess is below and there is nothing that can be done other than replace cap....
Do you wax wheels? Have center caps been out, tire change?
Once the plastic seal adhesive lets go then contaminents can get under and corrode film... Try an Polymer or Acrylic sealant to prevent any further corrosion on others. If you use plain wax you will have to apply at every wash, due to temperature of wheel melting wax off...
Hope this helps
P.S. I see this occurance quite often on every vehicle out there, not just Honda....FYI

Look for a dealer that might have an explanation and ask them to replace it under warranty. There is no way that this should be happening to an '03.

If your still under warranty I would try and get Honda to take care of...... Salt is a car owners worst enemy.....
Is this what it looks like??

I had this too, my Honda dealer replaced the caps with no problem, but now about 3 months later it is happening again. :( I have not tried waxing them also have you noticed on the back inside of the wheels there is a lot of hard brown brake dust that doesnt seem to come off. Any ideas on what to do for that? I love disc brakes but the wheels are hard to keep clean!!

When I rotate the tires every 7500 miles, I clean both sides of the wheel with P21S High Performance Wheel Cleaner. I get it from Car Care Specialties up in New Jersey. It comes with a sponge that I rub the wheels with. If the wheels are real bad then use the P21S Gel Wheel Cleaner. You can also use Sonax Wheel Cleaner. I plan on getting that in the next few weeks from Larry to see how it does for me.
