The Dec 06 C&D came in the mail yesterday. I don't like the new look at all...not one bit.

Anyone see it? Anyone like it?

The new stats page for each full review is pretty busy, but there's a lot of information stuffed in there. I'm not particularly fond of the text-over-photos layout either, but as long as the writing doesn't take a turn for the worse, I'll probably get used to it.

I know, I **** for not posting pics. I did think most folks had seen it already, since I am ususally the last to get it. I could try and scan some pics and post them, but I don't have access to a computer.

The new stats page gave me one of them thar seizures like I was watching Pocket Monsters or something.

I'm thinking the writing - which is C&D's greatest attribute and also a significant failing at times - will stay the same

With time I'm sure that I'll get used to it too, like I have with all the other changes over the years. IMHO though, of all the format changes C&D has made, I like this one the least.

Writing is still good, I'll get use to font and graphics changes I suppose...

Looks kinda retro...hold off on final conclusions til I actually get mine.

yep I agree looks very retro. I could care less what they do with the cover really as long as the articles stay strong. I enjoyed last months issue a lot when I was on a flight, especially that big comparo they had on the track. I need to resubscirbe since I pick up a newstand copy often enough that I pay double the subscription price for half the issues. :headbash:

When I got my issue, it reminded me of Motor Trend. It also looked smaller for some reason. After finding the previous issue, it was in fact the same size. But the ratio of articles to ads is depressingly low.

FYI... In my new issue, one of those subscription cards fell out and it was buy one year get TWO free. Yep, three years for 12 bucks. Already sent it in. Countin' my current subscription issues left, I'll be gettin' CD until Oct. 2010! :D

I don't like it either. I don't really care how it looks, but do care that two things I like are no longer there: First, Reader's Sightings on the last page, some of them were really good. And the page with car's specs after a test doesn't have the bar graphs comparing its specs with the competition's.

I agree with you on both. The last page was usually worth a laugh and I like the bar graph.

Yeah I liked the Last Page too...the stuff they in its place now isn't a worthy successor IMO. I'm not feeling the new layout at all and I've already been through the 2nd new format issue. The spec sheet makes it harder to find information to me, and the 10Best issue was not that exciting. Where are all the cool stories?! I thought all the picture essays so to speak weren't that great.

Reader's Sightings

The Feb 07 issue had a mini Reader's Sightings - one picture - on the last page.

The BACKFIRES section of the March 07 issue has letters regarding the redesign. Some funny letters in there.

A few quotes:

You...did to [C&D] what Chris Bangle did to BMW.

Stop telling me to go to anything dot-com. If I had a computer, I would not be reading and paying for your magazine.

Fire the art director responsible for this abomination and get your sense back.

Sonofabitch, who swapped my December 2006 issue of C/D for a five-year-old Motor Trend?
