This is a practice I have been doing for many years which can save you a lot of greef. My neighbor parks his car outside and some jerk peeled off his '07 registration sticker. He got a ticket for an expired registration and has to go get another sticker and protest the ticket. My solution to this is to clean off ALL old stickers and affix the new one then, use a razor blade and make several diagonal cuts in the sticker itself. This will make it much more difficult to peel it off the and be able to reuse it on another vehicle. It only takes an additional 5 minutes once a year and it can save you a couple of hours of leg work if someone steals your sticker.

Not a bad idea. I also have a clear plate guard on my rear plate which should help keep this from happening (why would anyone want to remove the guard to get my sticker when the next car over's plate is easily accessable?). I do park in a garage 99.9% of the time at night but my car is out in the lot all day while at work.

My question is who gave him the ticket. Was it one of the meter maids? If not and a cop pulled him over for expired tags, wouldn't the registration clear that up? :dunno:

It was a metermaid. However, if it had been a cop, he would have gotten a fix it ticket which he would have to get another sticker from the DMV or AAA. I got pulled over for the same thing a long time ago and it wasn't worth the agravation.

The state of Ohio combats this by indicating on the sticker the license plate number to which it was issued.

Good tip. Same thing happened to someone I know and I've been slashing mine for about 8 years now. Better to be safe than sorry.

Smart idea. Probably doesn't cost them any more to do this I would think. Wonder why other (all?) states don't do this. The cynic in me thinks it's because it's a way for the DMV to make extra $ by having people pay for another one if theirs gets stolen. Hmmm.... maybe it's the DMV stealing them?

Texas doesn't have stickers on their plates. They have them on the inside of the windshield.

So....at least it's a start. I hate thieves. I also hate how this country tolerates them. :paranoid:

Yep, NY and NJ do the same thing. Stickers on the inside of the windshield.

In fact all we have now in NJ is an inspection sticker. No registration sticker. If the cop wants to determine if your reg. is valid they will just scan your plates.

Modesto is starting to use technology that will scan plates with a camera as the cop drives by, then run it through the registration database. They use it for finding stolen cars but maybe one day they can use it to determine registration status instead of using stickers :dunno:
