not sure where to post this,I can't seem to find a section for newbies intros. I ran across this forum while surfing the net and thought i would join. I'm normally over at threegeez.com, I'm not sure if I would be useful here or not but I thought I would check it out. I drive a 1986 honda accord hatch.which of course no more hatches were made after my generation :bawling:. it's been a many year project with a lot of custom made stuff,it's almost ready for paint. lots of bodywork later. I also started on the first stages of a manifold to run dual sidedraft OER 45mm carbs. yes accords used to have carbs. if this is in the wrong place please move it and direct me to newbie introductions. :biggrin:hey why doesn't your picture show up in your signature?

Welcome.... Newbies just seem to post where ever their first posts interest is... sometimes it a picture for the gallery, sometimes a question about a problem.... :dunno:
The pictures are generally done with the avatar instead of the signature. Small "stamp" sizes work best.
We used to have an '87 LXi HB, MT & one of the loves of my life was an '86 sedan LXi AT. That was the second time we have a pair. (sedan & HB of the same gen) We both had '82s also. :D
HBs were sure handy!! One of our kids still has an '88, but it's a coupe.
I hope you enjoy your time here & find info you may need. I do have a difficult time going back that far on factory info. But feel free to ask!! :D

But feel free to ask!! :Dyea we have been looking for factory info on three geez for years,we do have a lot of the brochures that people have scaned over time. that is a really good source for a lot of technical info though.I'm going to be buying a 98 civic in jan then this car can go from being the daily driver to the vintage accord. it's been a fun challenge keeping it running day to day every day for years. considering it's age. sometimes have to work all night or all weekend night and day,but it keeps rolling. what is the purpose of your forum anyway?is it just a general accord forum? :) http://i92.photobucket.com/albums/l10/mkymonkey/membersigs/LOSTFORAWHILE.jpg

Welcome. Hmm, makes me think. Yep, Accord's used to have carbs, my parents are thankful that they changed to fuel injection completely by 1990. We've had a 1st gen, a 2nd gen, a 4th gen, a 6th gen, and a 7th gen. All manuals, except for the 6th gen.
Suggestion, let's add a newbie/introduction section.

Suggestion, let's add a newbie/introduction section.well it will soon have a set of sidedraft SU carbs replacing the nightmare electro mechanical carb control system. what were the engineers at Honda thinking? the 3rd generation fuel injected cars are great, but the carb cars are a nightmare to keep on the road. replacing the factory carbs with webber carbs,or SU carbs as I'm recently seeing more of,on japanese cars with carbs from the dark ages of emissions controls is becoming more common. It's not a matter of wanting to take off the factory emissions controls,it's a matter of after 20 years the highly complex and ticky factory carb controls just don't work right anymore. and no one knows how to fix them,I know these carbs and systems inside and out and even I can't fix them. the factory dealerships don't even know what a carb is anymore, not to mention there is no support from the factory on repairing them. :dunno:

This does bring up a point that my prince has made..... when at a dealer & picking out a tech to put his hands on your "baby".... one general rule is to look for the ugliest, sometimes smallest toolbox. In the 25+ years of his Honda tech-ness, he's noticed a pattern... they guys with those 3K toolboxes usually know nothing.... the ones with either antique ones or even a craftsmen one often put the money on the tools inside. His toolbox at work easily has 30-40K worth of stuff inside..... (he has to inventory it occationally for insurance reasons, but it's been a while...so I'm not sure of the current numbers)
By the way, he DOES know Honda carbs. The '82s were prone to the floats wearing out & sinking. That's ever so much fun in the middle of nowhere on the way to PHX!! They were also prone to coming loose in the middle. To tighten them up meant removing them to get to the screws that came loose.
Up until about 2 years ago, we still had numerous carb rebulding kits in our garage. They sure came in handy!!
You are quite right about techs knowing carbs being a dying breed though....
The purpose? Just sharing info.... :dunno: mostly factory stuff, but not all. I do my best to provide what I can since I have access to some factory info that isn't easy to find sometimes. Others have strong points from experience or powerfully quick searches of the internet!! We've become a diverse, interesting family here!
It's harder for me to get info on the older ones. I do still have a few manuals though. I'd suggest if you want to really have the info on your "vintage" Accord to buy a Helmic manual. They are what the techs use at the dealers. If you need more details on electrical, then also an ETM. (electrical troubleshooting manual) Handy things!! :)
