not going anywhere this summer.
we take vacation in either late spring or early fall. temperature is good. crowds are thin. prices are cheaper, depending where you go.
not to mention easier to get time off.

We'll be driving to Hershey, PA mid to late August. About 800 or so miles each way. It will be the first real trip in the car. The fartherst it's been is about 250 miles one way to visit my parents last weekend as a matter of fact. Very nice trip. Comfortable, car doesn't care if it's 70, 80, or 90 mph - no strain. Nice change from my daily driver - Grand Am that is not comfortable.

I wish but it's a lot of money...lol. I checked the price on Cunard's ships for a 110 day world tour in their best suite, it was like $375,000 a person? Maybe in a few thousand years I can afford that...but not now lol.

Yeah, that's a wee bit pricey!!

Our main vacation will be flying to DC & Orlando.

I'm sure we'll get a few road trips in too!! I think we'll be doing another Disneyland in Aug. That one will be the take some grandkids.

No, I don't get tired of Disney parks! I haven't visited them as much as usual this year......:D

Summer vacations are short weekender's for us......
Family travel is ground based also.. I used to fly on business regularly but the Mrs. is not fond of air travel at all...
We have a Large amusement park less than 1/2 hr away , Water parks x 3 , A lot of Historical sites will be visited this year(kids are 2nd and 4th grades) good learning vacations!! Of course the Air Force Museum and other Museums.. We do the Omni Max on those really hot/humid days 90+/90+ and the Zoo when its cooler.
This summer I am hoping to pedal at least 500-1000 miles...
South Western Ohio has numerous bike paths and trails, one is approx 90 miles long along the Little Miami River..

Here's the Mom & Dad bikes.................

Those are some really interesting frames!

The prince does some riding. He's got a good, but old Diamond back bike. He bought me one too, but it's only been used once or twice. I'll walk all over the place, but I don't like to ride bikes. I walk about 4-5 miles daily, another 1.7 on treadmill days.

Maybe that's one reason I love ammusment parks so much. Lots to see while walking!!

We have a few big ammusment parks & zoos within an hour from us, but still drive south. I know, we're nuts!

I would gladly make that drive to see Disneyland often if I was that close..

The bikes are Giant dual suspension... smoooooth ride.........

I used to ride about 5-8k a year about 25 years ago....
My wife had spinal fusion about 2 years ago and I was worried about her being able to ride, until I found these. I did look at recumbents but over 1k price tag

Yeah, they look like they should have a nice ride! Very beefy!!:)

Your kids are the perfect ages for a DL or WDW trip! I think the Aug. trip we're planning will include our soon to be 10 year old grand daughter. We took her at 4, 5, 6, & 7. Then the other grandkids caught up. So we now take them at 4, 7, 10 & plan 13. Some may go inbetween. The way the 6 of them are spaced, we take one or two every year. They put a different light on the parks. "through a child's eyes" thing...

Has your wife's back healed nicely? From the ones I've known to have back surgery, it seems 50/50 on how much relief they get.

This summer I will work. I plan on taking vacation time this fall when my daughter comes for a couple of months to visit from France. I have not seen her in two years and it's killing me. We are extremely close and it goes without saying that she is a daddy's girl. But alas, children grow up (she's 19) and start lives of their own.

Yes WDW is in the works within the next 2 years....
I think their getting old enough to enjoy without wearing down to fast. I like to spend the whole day at the park so anything under 9-10yrs old cuts the day short for me.... I may feel different when it would come to G-kids.. But I would be 55-60, so maybe I would want to go 1/2 day then!ha

My wife back has it's moments... I think most people that resort to the Surgery could say that the pain is better than it was before. She probably will only make it 1/2 day at WDW since the surgery.. We have not made any extensive road trips since she had her surgery.. Four hours is about Her limit now..

The frames are Aluminum so they weigh around 20-25lbs...

I have really enjoyed the changes in the relationship with our kids, now that they are all grown up! Especially the youngest one!

Have you made any plans for while she's home??

I1, When we go to the parks in the Summer we do an afternoon break. He naps while I "freshen up". We pretty much always get a room with an in-room whirl pool tub. That helps with the tired toes. We change into clothes the work well for the evening cool down (here). One very good trick is taking at least 2 pair of very comfy shoes. It helps with the tired feet.

At WDW there's 4 parks & you need at least one full day at each. If the kids like roller coasters, then you also need a day or 2 at Universal too. The first time we also went down to the Kennedy Space Center, Daytona & the Ocean. We were there 10 days in all both times & that's what we'll do again.

8am to midnight is a VERY long day!! Taking 2 hours off from about 2-4 is a nice break! In FL it's after the rain when we head to the room. Can't miss those wonderful storms!!:D

It's funny that a lot of the posts involved summer plans - in one form or another - with kids. Our "summer vacation" was the birth of our first child, so our summer plans involved a child too.
