: protecting the Navi screen
04EXNavi 05-04-2004, 03:53 AM I was cleaning my interior last night (the car's, not mine) and I noticed two very light scratches across the Navi screen. I try to be extremely careful with it, and use monitor-cleaning wipes to clean it - but it looks like even the best intentions are not always enough. Luckily, they can't be seen when the unit is on.
Anyone recommend a good cleaning product?
I hate to think how the screen will look in a few years at this rate.
benjamming 05-04-2004, 05:21 AM I'm not familiar with the monitor-cleaning wipes. I've always used a microfiber cloth for glass to wipe down my flat screen computer monitor at home. I don't ever use fabric softener sheets when I dry the cloth either.
Inspector1 05-04-2004, 06:11 AM The monitor cleaning cloths are nice, just be careful that they are completely clean as with anything you use on the screen..

I am surprised they do not have a protective cover that can be replaced after several years..
I1:)
princess 05-04-2004, 06:24 AM We've concidered getting a piece of plastic, that magnetic stuff.....but you're supposed to wet it to stick it. Being a touch screen, you'd need something soft like that. We use the same alcohol wipes we use for the flat screen moniters. I keep one micro fiber cloth in the car for touch ups.
The screens collect both dust & fingerprints!
It came with a cloth in the glove compartment, but it didn't seem soft enough. It's like the cloths that many eye glasses come with. You do need to be careful not to rub hard no matter what you use! I always clean it with straight lines.
04EXNavi 05-04-2004, 06:46 AM I guess it is probably bits of dust that are getting pushed aropund by the cleaning wipe. I'll switch to dabbing in the future...those microfiber cloths wouldn't hurt either I suppose.
And I get to be even more obsessive with my car :)
princess 05-04-2004, 07:51 AM Nothin' wrong with a bit of obsession!:D
BenjiBoy650 05-04-2004, 04:38 PM Can't you just use something like the screen protectors for PDA's?
princess 05-04-2004, 05:38 PM Do they come in about a 4 X 6??

I'm not sure, I guess you could always buy multiples and stick em all on there?
princess 05-04-2004, 05:47 PM I don't think so! I'm sure if we hunted we could find a piece of the thin "magnetic" plastic/vinyl stuff......
We don't have any scratches yet.... on either one. Maybe the next time we buy a screen something it'll have a piece big enough to trim down for both. I didn't think of it on the last purchase.
There was a place called TAP Plastics that would custom size any thing for you. The one here closed down years ago, but they may still have one over in Concord/Pleasant Hill area.
princess 05-05-2004, 01:40 PM found some!!
http://www.nushield.com/products_car_displays_honda.htm
Manzilla 05-05-2004, 03:41 PM Just bought mine. I hope they work. We will see.
princess 05-05-2004, 03:45 PM Where did you buy it from? The link above showed a picture of an Accord dash, then only had Pilot to drop down. We need both. I didn't order yet, in hopes of finding one locally.
Manzilla 05-05-2004, 03:52 PM Oops! Thats the one I bought. Oh well, I guess I will take one in the shorts for the forum to see if it will work on the Accord navi screen also. I will report back on this when I receive it.
princess 05-05-2004, 03:56 PM Maybe they sized it big enough for either. The Pilot's screen is a pinch smaller.
Manzilla 05-05-2004, 03:57 PM I just e-mailed them and asked if it will work on the Accord also. When they get back to me I will post their reply.
Manzilla 05-05-2004, 03:58 PM Also if the Pilots screen is a bit smaller maybe it can just be trimmed down a little.
princess 05-05-2004, 04:05 PM Yeah, if it's an Accord screen protector, it could be trimmed down for a Pilot. If it's a Pilot size, then it's going to be a bit too small. When I saw the sight, I was under the impression they sold both..... maybe they do. Be sure to let us know. Did they say how long for shipping?
Manzilla 05-05-2004, 04:10 PM They said they would send it next business day. I did priority mail so I should have it by next Mon. at the latest.
princess 05-05-2004, 05:00 PM Sheesh that IS fast. I probably won't make it over to see what BestBuy has before the weekend!
Manzilla 05-05-2004, 07:14 PM Is the Acura TL Navi screen different then the Accords?
Manzilla 05-05-2004, 07:30 PM I just visited the Acura site and the Navi on the TL looks identical to the Accords. They also say that it is 8". I am not sure if this is the same size as the accords though. I do know that the link Princess gave (The site I ordered the Navi protector from) does have a link for the Acura TL Navi protector.
http://www.nushield.com/products_car_displays_acura.htm
I don't know if this will work or not and again I will hopefully know more when and if they e-mail me back.
04EXNavi 05-06-2004, 04:14 AM Sweet, I knew there had to be something out there...le us know how well the protector works once you get it.
princess 05-09-2004, 05:40 AM While out & about yesterday we bought a pack of screen protectors for laptops. They're not what we need! They aren't the soft polymer or vinyl that will stick on without adheasive. I emailed the nushield people to ask more info about theirs.
I do think the TL screen is the same as the Accord.
I also did a really close inspection of the Accord's screen & no scratches, so far! Today I'll check the Pilot when it's her bath time.
If you all have success, please post it!!:)
princess 05-10-2004, 02:32 PM I wrote the seller & he claims he does have the size for the Accords!

princess 05-10-2004, 05:41 PM Finally heard back from nushield:
"The Acura TL ('02-03) and the Honda Pilot ('03-04) use the same size
screen but the Accord is larger, as you have noted. We do not have the
correct size for the Accord. The navigation screens are difficult to
design for and very touchy as to the dimensions, so it would not be
advisable to try to cut down a larger film yourself."
Manzilla, you may be sending your's back!!
Let us know!
princess 05-17-2004, 01:43 PM Manzilla did you get the screen protector??? Did it fit???
Manzilla 05-18-2004, 07:32 PM Got em! Yes they are way to small and I will be sending them back.
Manzilla 05-18-2004, 07:34 PM Princess, have you ordered from the guy on e-bay who said he had the correct size for the Accord?
princess 05-18-2004, 07:46 PM no, still debating......
billinaz 12-09-2004, 07:34 PM I got the ones from NuShield today, way too small. They are going back.
otwer22 12-10-2004, 05:15 AM Wow what good timing on this thread, I found a place that has accord screen protectors. I ordered on Wednesday, should have it today.
The place is Bstrong engineering, talked to the guy for a few minutes on the phone, he seemed very knowledgeable. The screen protector uses a very light adhesive that is just around the edge, which makes for easy replacement and no sticky mess. Wish it used a static cling to hold in place :( oh well, hopefully it should still be a good product.
Here's the website: http://strongengineering.com/miva?/Merchant2/merchant.mv+Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=BA&Category_Code=SP+Auto+Navigation
I will report back after installation and a few days with it to see how I like it.
Scott......
princess 12-10-2004, 06:40 AM I'll be real curious as to what you think...
billinaz 12-11-2004, 02:13 PM I got an email from NuShield.
They may make one of the accord, I am sending them the size of the screen.
otwer22 12-17-2004, 05:15 AM Well, I got the screen protector over this last weekend, Been really busy with the holiday's so I haven't had a chance to look at the fit of the protector till last night.
It seems smallish, on the horizontal axis there is about a .25 inch of back and forth play, the vertical isn't as bad maybe about .125 or so. The edges all around have what appears to be very thin double sided tape, used to secure the screen protector.
Just placing the protector over the screen I am having second thoughts about using this. The gaps are enough that I wonder if some of the touch screen buttoms that are around the edge may be on a seam. Also seems like it would not look very good with the fitment as is.
I will think about whether I want to use this protector and in the mean time see what comes up with the nushield situtation.
Scott....
billinaz 12-17-2004, 03:51 PM I got the screen protectors from strong, but the adhesive on it made me apprehensive about installing it.
I wound up throwing it away.
Im getting a test sample from NU SHIELD. If it works out, Ill let everyone know here.
Id rather have the one that stays by static cling rather then by adhesive.
04EXNavi 12-20-2004, 05:08 AM I agree...I hate to think what that adhesive would do to the screen, after being baked on by the sun repeatedly.
Let us know what you think of the static cling type!
