Hi guys, sorry I haven't been around much lately.... I've been busy!
Anyway, I'm an idiot and I sort of rear-ended a New York City bus a little while ago.... doesn't look like major damage, but the dent in the door is pretty bad - the coupe sort of went under the bus, and the edge of the bus caught the door, causing a deep bend in the door.... so I'm definitely gonna have to go get it fixed ASAP.
Does anyone in the NYC area have a recommendation for a good, reasonably priced body shop???? Please???? :)

i wonder what valerie is thinking right now..... :lmao:
you could just be like me tho, and not bother due to age....... oh wait, your car is not 13 yrs old like mine is..... :stupid:
none that i could think of in philly or NYC, but do know of a couple good ones in pittsburgh, if you don't mind not having a car for a few weeks..... i can drive you back.....

If you trust your dealer, you can try calling them. Many dealers have their own or a very good shop that they recommend.

I don't know of any good bodyshops in NY but I just wanted to say hi
We've all ran into stuff we didn't mean to. A few months ago I backed into a sign in a parking lot :smilemad: a little touch up paint applied with a toothpick and I can't even find the scratch anymore.

ok, so i spoke to my dealer, and they said to bring it in for the estimate... apparently, they handle all the stuff for their preferred body shop. so when john is done at work today, i guess we're heading to the dealer. i'm still very annoyed at myself.... i have the camera in the car, so i will take some pics and post them later.

I've been happy with A&L Auto Body. It's about a 15-minute walk from the Grove Street Path. They've been fair to me, and I've had several (more than I would like) bits of work done there.

so.... does this sound reasonable? the dealer-recommended body shop says the following need to be replaced:
- Right front fender ($263, 2 hours labor @ $75/hr, 3 hours painting @ $85/hr)
- Right front fender skirt w/ clips ($98, 1 hr labor)
- Right front door ($686, 6 hours labor, 3.5 hours painting)
Total estimate, including taxes - $2772.50

i haven't contacted my insurance agent yet - i don't want my rates to increase! i have full coverage on the car though, so insurance would probably pay for the work to be done at their specified facility if i file a claim.

It might actually be cheaper to go through insurance on this one if you have a low deductable since it's going to cost you $1800+ to repair all of it...

my deductible is either $1000 or $1500.... which is why i might just pay for the repairs.... between that, and the higher insurance premiums, not sure it would be worth it....

With that high of a deductable, I agree, you may as well pay for it yourself.
You're over 25 though right? So, your rates shouldn't explode too much.

yeah, i'm over 25, but my insurance rates practically increase when i sneeze. NYC sucks for some stuff, and car insurance is definitely one! :(

With that high of a ded. you're right. It's better to fork out the cash. You try calling some junkyards to see if they have a door and a fender (especially in black) and that would save you a lot of cash! Keeping the original fender well lining would save you even more. It looks like it's still in good shape.

you're not kidding about that! another year or so, and thats actually the plan... will cut my insurance rates in half, easily!
If you're still lookign for a shop, D&H Auto Body on Atlantic Ave in Richmond Hill is good. I've used them a couple of times already with my brothers car, a few friends and even with my Civic. If you need the number let me know.
