... and got an 05 Acura TL, automatic, non-navi. (Redondo Red with black interior) :)

I was at a point where I had positive equity with the Accord and I've always loved the 2004+ TL (styling, features, everything) so I started searching and I found one that I could afford. My payments won't be much more than the payments on the Accord. Insurance didn't go up much, either. Gas will cost a bit more, but I've been getting 270 miles out of a tank by the time the needle gets to the quarter-tank mark.. working out to be a combined city/highway MPG of 25-26, which is pretty good as most of my driving is city. The TL's gas tank is the same size as the Accord's was, so fill-ups aren't costing more (even using premium, which adds maybe $1.50).. they'll just come a little more often.

It has 26K miles on it and is Acura Certified, so I have an additional year/12,000 miles on the factory warranty.. so I'm good until 2009/62,000 miles. I don't have any negative equity to bury, though, so I can probably part with it long before then if I want to.

If the 2008 Accord looks really sweet.. I'd probably move into one of them without much hassle :) I really like the TL, but there are times it feels like it's too much car for me. :)

Welcome to the club. You will probably find the 08 Accord will still be no match for the TL

Thanks :)

I would've posted pics, but I didn't have any stored online anywhere... until now :)

In features, perhaps.. but refinement should be a bit better, as it's a newer generation than that of the current Accord/TL. If that turns out to be true, that refinement is better, the styling would be all that it would take for me to trade in the TL and get an 08 Accord, but the current TL styling is perfect, IMO. The HID lights and blue gauges/interior lighting will be hard to part with, though. :)

What's odd is that when I was researching the TL and the TSX, I looked into the cost of new tires (the TL I got happened to come with a new set of tires, which was a selling point) and new tires for the TL were less than for the TSX.. probably because the TSX uses an odd size.. but it was still surprising to me.

If you want a forum that will give you tons of information

acurazine.com is a great place for that.

I browse there often, but don't post much. They are not that friendly and sometimes have an attitude. I like DA much better. I hope I can help those who have the TL so we can gain even more TL members.

It is a great car. I think you will be surprised just how wonderful it is the more you drive it. I never get tired of stepping into this car. I actually am excited just to drive it.

First car I've felt that way about.

Yeah, I'm a member over at acurazine too. They definitely seem to have an attitude. The thread about TL performance in the snow was particularly amusing. Everyone's bitching about the stock tires and when I mentioned the new Goodyear Eagle RS-A's my TL came with and how they weren't really any worse in the snow than any other tire on any other car I've had they didn't seem to believe it. Everyone was so convinced that snow tires are the only way to go.. and I'm reading this thinking "what kind of idiots are these people?". Apparently no one told them that you can't drive like it's summer when there's snow, slush, and ice on the road. The 04 Accord I just got rid of was the first car I've owned that had ABS.. and the TL is the first I've had with traction control/VSA. I learned how to drive in the snow without all that fancy technology.. and apparently they didn't.

The feeling that maybe it's a bit too much car for me does go away every time I get in it and drive. :) Like you said, it's just simply a wonderful car. My 04 Accord was also a wonderful car.. 41K trouble-free and painless miles. The gas mileage is about the only thing I miss.. and only when I'm putzing around in the city with the TL.

Like the car!

Hope you enjoy it. My mom bought an 05 TSX new last year, and she wishes she had gotten the TL. The TSX is a little to unrefined power-wise for her.

Congrats on the new car, always nice to see our members movin on up

In terms of the 08 Accord, I don't think it will beat the TL in refinement. From what I heard/experienced, the 7th gen isn't that much more refined than my 6th gen except in terms of engine noise (mine is using a design from 1990 after all), and the TL is much quieter. So I don't think the 08 Accord will be able to one up even this TL

Thanks :) Yeah, there's definitely an instant response from the engine with even the gentlest press on the accelerator.

Thanks! Hopefully you're wrong about the 08 Accord. :) As for noise on the TL, I don't think it's any quieter than my 04 Accord was.. but maybe that's the tires too.

Sure hope I'm wrong too!

Interesting that the TL seems no quieter than the Accord. I haven't sat/driven in a 04+ TL yet but stevel told me his TL is much quieter than anysia's EX 5MT coupe so that's basically all of what I have to go on. The tires on the TL might make a difference, I believe they had 2 different ones mounted at the factory, one Bridgestone and one Michelin...something like that.

Well, the engine is quieter.. but road noise at freeway speeds is about the same.

One thing I really like about the TL is that it doesn't seem to start harder when the temps get really cold (near zero) like my Accord did. Maybe the battery is better insulated?

I would have a Avalon and PII in my drive way right now if Yota dealers hadn't made it nesscrey to buy stock in K-Y to with stand the penetration they wanted to give me on auto purchaser's.

Second choice was TL and RSX. Again the Acura dealers were wanting to slaughter me.

So I ended up with Honda's.

I really like the current gen. TL's. Really nice cars! Mine would have to be a 6MT with the monster brakes and LSD. I still look at the used TL's. But know even with the ubber nice employee of the year award I got for xmas. I would regret the purchase in the long run.

Enjoy the TL.

My TL is loads quieter than the Accord it replaced. Just the thicker glass makes a huge difference.

Drive it more. You get used to the quiet. Then jump into an Accord and you'll be looking for earplugs :lmao: :lmao:

I beg to differ on the refinement part, when referring from 6th gen Accord to 7th.

My '04 V6 beats the '98 to '02 hands down in engine refinement, sound quality and overall noise level. The suspension has considerably less road roar and when you hit small sharp bumps the change in the lower control arm design is very noticeable, no loud thumping as in the 6th gen.

If you compare a v6 7th gen to a 4cyl 6th gen, the difference is even larger as the subframes are not rubber isolated on the 4 cyl 6th gen so the road roar are even louder.

I really notice little difference in the smoothness levels from the old F series 4 to the K. I do find the K to be MUCH noisier on the outside of the car than the F ever was. From balancer whine to valvetrain noise, the K is a fairly noisy motor.

But, if you compare build quality from the 6th to the 7th, the 6th gen has the panel gaps more even, paint quality is consistent, esp from body to bumpers. I haven't seen a 7th gen yet that I couldn't see a difference in color from bumpers to body.

I also prefer the seamless upper dash panel. I don't know why they went to the multiple piece dash in the '03 and up. Ease of changing from LHD to RHD perhaps?

If the 8th gen couple looks like some of the pics I've been seeing, I'm getting that "itch" again about another car.

I don't know, what I know is we tested both a 04 LX I4 AT sedan and a 04 EX V6 sedan and they both were just as noisy/jumpy (not incl. engine) as my car. And the K24 sounded pretty crappy too...sorry folks had to say that.

......following up Temple of VTEC's report of recent TL clutch rework to provide less abrupt engagement:

1. This old sailor plus a cheerful holiday spirited sales dude took an '07 black TL-S 6M for a fast test spin last Friday afternoon...............

2. Car IS quiet, torquey, gorgeous and more luxo intensive than my car.......BUT....

3. Clutch is essentially - my perception here - unchanged. Still vague as hell

My 40k continues drawing circa 4.3% tfree.........while I lay in the weeds and wait. But - I say again - save the single issue, that's a really nice car.......

..best, ez...

Forget a new TL.. get a slightly used one (like I did). Final price on mine with tax and everything was $27K even. I know people elsewhere in the country could get a TL like mine for less.. but there aren't many Acura dealers in my area, so demand exceeds supply.. keeping the price up a bit.

I agree. Alot of people here seem to worship the TL but I prefer the 07 Accord Coupe by a mile and wouldn't ever switch. The new 07 coupe design imo is soo much better looking. I would however like to upgrade to a v6 but the I4 is no slouch if you know how to drive it.

First of all, congrat on the new ride! It's a very very nice car!

May I ask did you trade in a V6 or 4-cylinder Accord? Last night when I ride in my friend's new 06 4-cylinder Accord and I realize the engine is much nosier than my 03 V6..

The 7th-gen Accord's styling (coupe or sedan) has never been as appealing to me as the styling on the 04+ TL. Even the TSX is an improvement.
