View Full Version : Sun Visor, Rear-view Mirror Interference
Traveler 12-30-2006, 08:13 AM So I have question for you 7th Generation Accord owners...
When you flip down the sun visor, does it brush the rear view mirror and knock it out of alignment?
I find it pretty annoying.
Is there an easy fix?
mnkyman 12-30-2006, 09:38 AM not at all
the sun visors do pull out farther, make sure yours is pushed in all the way
Traveler 12-30-2006, 09:42 AM Yes, it's pushed in all the way. That was the first thing I checked.
Nimoxp 12-30-2006, 09:54 AM Nope. Not a problem.
princess 12-30-2006, 10:58 AM I'm too short for the visors to do me any good.... :dunno: It's never happened to my prince when he's driving my car that I've seen.
mnkyman 12-30-2006, 11:57 AM maybe some pictures will help...
maybe the honda techs installed your mirror a little to far to the left..is there an unusual amount of space for the passenger visor from the mirror?
neteng101 12-30-2006, 12:22 PM The sun visor is pretty far away from the mirror... I can't see how it would ever hit the mirror?
I did notice that in the locked position, when you flip it down, it doesn't go all the way flush against the windshield, but I think it was made that way.
Conundrum 12-30-2006, 02:26 PM Nope...not problems for me either.
I know on my old Sunfire I would always hit the mirror if not careful. It used to bug me to no end at times...

I'll take some pictures.
Just eyeballing it, it seems like when I flip the passenger side visor, there's about 1.5 inches clearance. Is that unusual?
Let me see if I can find the camera.
Traveler 12-30-2006, 03:43 PM Both visors up...
Traveler 12-30-2006, 03:44 PM With the passenger's side visor dropped. Plenty of clearance...
Traveler 12-30-2006, 03:46 PM Now I drop the driver's side visor. Bump! And the mirror is out of whack. How distracting!
princess 12-30-2006, 04:03 PM mone, flaps up
princess 12-30-2006, 04:04 PM flaps down.... I did notice that it's off center....but doesn't hit.... :dunno: Shhhhh, don't tell anyone my mirror is dirty.... I've been a Winter bum!!! :lmao:
If the factory mirror is like the accessory auto-dim mirror, its hinged in two places. The mirror itself pivots but the other end of the "neck" against the windshield pivots, also. Push the mirror away from you using your fingers to guide the neck near the base of the windshield. Then twist the mirror itself to adjust it.
mnkyman 12-30-2006, 06:24 PM i didnt know it bent at the joint by the window

it looks like the mount is center, but hte mirror isnt..if it is double jointed like trip said, then that will fix your prob
in4mation 12-30-2006, 06:27 PM The same happens with my mirror and visor on the driver side. It is irritating, though. I have to be sure to not hit it when pulling the visor down. I used to have a wide angle mirror on there (the Broadway clip on) but took it off because it would hit the mirror and it would fall off.
Traveler 12-30-2006, 07:00 PM Man, do I feel silly now. :paranoid:
It's been like that for months, since we bought it, and I'd bitch about it to my wife whenever I drove it (it's her daily driver). It never occurred to me that it had joints in two places. Granted, it was kind of stiff moving it into position, but everything moves freely now, and I can deploy the visor without hitting the mirror.
I'm glad I didn't take it into the shop.
Thanks guys! :notworthy
Traveler 12-30-2006, 07:06 PM Maybe I'm kidding myself, but surely this problem has, or will, vex other new Accord owners. I don't think I've ever had a car that had two joints in the rear view mirror mount, and when the problem first arose, I just assumed the mirror came from the factory like that.
Maybe this could go into the FAQ?

Thanks Trip!
You're welcome. :)
Actually, I figured this out in a friend's Subaru. The last gen Legacy/Outbacks have the same accessory auto-dim mirror. She needed to put her sun visor down one day and pointed out how the visor would hit the mirror. From my angle in the pass seat I noticed this.
Now, if Honda would only offer a less bulky accessory auto-dim mirror. IMO its not up to the quality of the rest of the interior . . . but that's a rant for another thread. :D
Glad I could help.
snakehair 01-01-2007, 09:14 AM My problem is the more I adjust the mirror to the right, the worse the vibration is. Seems to be less likely to bounce around when more to the left which brings it back to the hitting sun visor area. I have it adjusted now where I miss it by a cat's whisker and it doesn't vibrate much. Probably a faulty mirror, but I have read here that other's auto dim mirrors also vibrate somewhat(??).

My dad has the exact opposite problem as you. He's so tall that the sun visors do him no good, other than to blind him.
I've never noticed it. It doesn't hit in my Accord.
