View Full Version : TCS light
stuckeyman87 01-02-2007, 07:24 PM while sitting in my car tonight idiling, i noticed my tcs light came on and stayed on....it had the triangle with the "!" in the middle as well as the "TCS" indicator on....before i sat in my car and let it idle, i wasnt driving it hard at all, just normally....i tried to turn it on and off with the swtich (next to the sunroof switch) but that didnt do anything...the light stayed on...then i read in my manual that this means there is a problem with the tcs system, but i drove my car home, then turned it off. then i waited about 10 secs after that, and then i turned it back on and fired up the engine again. the tcs light was gone. i then drove the remaining couple of blocks to my driveway....weird huh? has this happened to anyone? anyone know what could have happened, and is my tcs safe now?
Accordlover 01-02-2007, 08:40 PM If its not on, all is well. If it comes back on, and stays on, there's an issue. I believe those are supposed to flash during operation though right? Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I remember reading that under hard acceleration the TCS light will flash.
stuckeyman87 01-02-2007, 09:56 PM yes it does do a little flash when shifting under hard acceleration.....sometiems when the front wheels break loose, it coems on then goes off for a split second....but it has never come on on me and then stayed on....i guess we will see later on next time i drive the car....
Conundrum 01-03-2007, 06:09 AM Basically the light should flash when TCS is in use, and should only stay on when either the TCS system has been disabled via the button on dash or if there is a problem with the TCS system.
Considering the light is no longer on, I really wouldn't worry about it. At most, maybe pop open the hood and check the fuse for the TCS/ABS systems (they share one IIRC), and make sure it isn't broken/damaged. If the light stays off just forget about it, and if it comes back on maybe take the car into a dealership (def take it in if it comes on again and stays on).
prkiller 01-03-2007, 01:22 PM This actually happend to me the other day. Exact same scenario. I'm not really worried about it at the moment.
AT03V6 01-03-2007, 01:28 PM That has happened to me twice, once on a really long road trip about a year ago and then today under normal driving. I restarted the car both times and the "problem" was solved. I've also had the car in for it's 50,000 mile inspection and nothing was reported as broken so .....DANCING BANANA!!!
Axewhlder 01-06-2007, 07:56 AM I've had the same problem since last Feb. actually. Unfortunatly my "problem with your TCS system" lights are on constantly. The only time it goes out is when it's very cold outside.
I don't know much about the system. I'm assuming I have a bad wheel sensor, loose connection or something. I'd rather not take it to the stealership around here because they charge crazy hourly rates and quite honestly arent the best. Car is out of warranty to.
I'd love to fix it myself but no one I've talked to on the net has had any idea what the problem could be.
Amanda Moen 01-16-2007, 07:17 AM This happened to me this past summer. Figured that some dirt must have gotten on the sensor, or something like that. It happened after we put air in the tires. As soon as I turned the car off and then back on, it was fine. Hasn't happened since.
JHAWK13 01-16-2007, 12:31 PM ITs your brake light switch, its a really common issue with the 7th gens. Honda actually updated the design on the Brake light switch because they were having so many problems.

That's what my dealer replaced after it happened to me 3 times. Problem fixed.
Axewhlder 01-19-2007, 10:45 AM Where is the brake light switch and how expensive is it? I may have to get one since my TCS hasnt worked for some time.
faderrific 01-19-2007, 12:04 PM If you are ever trying to back up an iced-over slope driveway, turn off the TCS. I found out the hard way. My front passenger tire was on a some ice and the driver's side wasn't. The TCS reacted to the passenger side and braked as I was trying to drive over the ice. It's really hard to explain but the entire front of my car made these god-awful, painful noises. It sounds like my car was going to die or blowup. I turned off the TCS and went right over it.

Probably just ABS...
V-TECV6 01-20-2007, 11:48 PM i took my accord in for the TCS light when it came on and i had a nail in my tire and the guy said that the TCS system works kinda like a tire pressure monitoring system. so i replace the tire and it went off, it sences when one tire is low and lets you know to drive carefully, so CHECK UR DANG TIRERS YALL, and yes the honda dealership told me that it was a TPMS

Your Honda dealer lied...TCS =/= TPMS. They work in similar ways by sensing differences in wheel speeds but they are not the same.
V-TECV6 01-20-2007, 11:57 PM He didnt say it was a TPMS but it works as one, meaning if the tire is low it will sence it and its true, because in my red av6 coupe ive already had 2 tires replaced to nails, My house is brandnew well theres still some construction in the backyard, thats where i get all thease nails from, but anyway the TCS light came on when ever the tire lost air.
SSMV6 01-21-2007, 09:15 AM The TCS system in the Accords is a tad on the sensitive side. Because the difference in tire pressures would also cause a difference in the turning rate of the wheels, the TCS thinks you are losing traction and lights up the TCS light. :lmao:
