I have noticed that my 1999 Accord DX 2.3L's fuel pump will cycle for about 10 seconds every 6-7 minutes when the car is shut off. Is this common? If it is not, what could be causing this? Any help would be appreciated!

Are you sure its the fuel pump?? With key in off position??
Does you cooling fan cycle when car is shut off??

The reason I ask is the fuel pump should not run with car shut off!! That could be Very Dangerous!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you are not sure.. Have someone check out for you....soon..

I know for sure that it is not the cooling fan. The noise I hear is from the rear of the car and sounds like a cell phone on vibrate. The car has been doing this for the past few days and still runs great. Could it be related to the fuel pressure in the tank?

It could be a pressure problem..
Possible bad vent on gas cap and venting somewhere else?
Try and pinpoint sound remove spare tire and cover then listen..

Anyone else have similar problem?

Welcome, jsnell!:)

Let us know what you find out. I'm very curious since the pump should have no power without the key. Pressure can make some pretty odd noises though. You could pull the fuse to the fuel pump to rule it out.

I thought it was related to the pressure of the system but if I open the gas cap I can hear the vacuum escape!

Are there any other underlying systems that might have control of the fuel pump?

Have you had ANY electrical work done lately? No new audio stuff? Or charging system work?

I believe that should be pressure releasing.....

? Does the vibration sound stop after releasing pressure by removing fuel cap?

I noticed mine making a very faint hum every 5-10 seconds the other day.. popped open the fuel cap and sound subsided....
Being 80 degrees out had a lot to do with that!!
