Hi all, just got some paint chips on the plastic bumper:bawling: . Anyone know how to touch it up for good? I've used the Honda touch up paint, however, it doesn't stick to the pastic bumper. Any ideas!!! Thanks!!!!

That's tricky. What did you do to prep the area before touching up?

Well, with a plastic I'd think you'd need to carefully do some sort of sanding & priming. Try doing some research online about body work, paint & touch ups. Then after the color is on, you'd likely need to do some wet sanding & polishing to smooth it back out. Are these big chips? Just make sure the products you use are compatible!! There are several different kinds of paints & primers.

When we bought my mom's '95 Accord someone had touched up a keying line down the side. My prince thought the that looked worse than the scratch. So he carefully rubbed off the extra paint with a polishing compound. That also took care of some of the scratch. It looked much better. Three months later she bashed that side in parking next to a pole!! He threatened to take her car away for Honda Abuse!:D

I1 would probably have more answers. Hopefully he'll see this soon!;)

Touching up bumpers will require a primer base if it chipped all the way to the plastic....
Check out this link on touch-up paint and primers.........

Most of the online car care sites have different how-to articles. Here's one: http://www.carcareonline.com/viewarticle.aspx?art=8

coolcat..
The best advice I would give you personally is be patient and try and layer T/U paint as thin as possible for best results...

Chips are a major PITA for sure. Plastic bumpers multiply the problem because they are chip magnets.
Okay, IMHO-
Original factory paint consists of a primer, base, then clear. Touch up paint is formulated to add the color of the base but give the shine of the clear, therefore it is neither base nor clear and unfortunately this new hybrid does not stick well to plastic. My advice would be to let the chips accumulate on the plastic bumper till you can't stand it, get it repainted, and then consider either getting extra layers of clear added and repeat when it gets tore up again OR look into the 3M chip protector.
