View Full Version : 2005 honda ex v6
optimist 02-08-2007, 08:57 PM Hi I just bought a used 2005 honda accord ex v6. I only drove it 120 miles so far and checked the mpg, city only so far and I only got about 18. That sounds low, any thoughts. The car has 28,000 miles.
I was also considering an extended warranty, but it seems one will cost around $1,300 for a 5 year, 75,000 new miles warranty. I was told by friends that honda rarely breaks and they would forego this expense. Any thoughts?
Is the Honda accord v6 just in general known for any type of problems, like the AC or transmission, electrical??
Thanks a bunch
dohcivtec 02-08-2007, 09:02 PM you drive in city. how bad is the traffic? maybe thats why it is so low?
optimist 02-08-2007, 09:02 PM Regarding my mpg, I use Shell gas, the medium octane, not the regular and not the premium. Would I get better gas mileage with premium gasoline or is the plus good enough?
BenjiBoy650 02-08-2007, 09:13 PM 18 sounds right. Consider the EPA rating is 20 or 21 and usually people get under EPA when they're not trying. Using premium you MIGHT get more power but usually not more MPG.
The Accords main problem is the headunit screen going bad, and I believe those have their own extended warranty. A few V6's had the transmissions go out, but those were 03's. I think the trannies are not up to my expectation of Honda durability yet, but they're not horrible. I don't expect you would be seeing any other major problems, just rattles maybe
GRdotNet 02-08-2007, 10:04 PM I've been getting in the low 20's with my 07 V6 6 speed. I'm not really trying for max MPGs and I do about 60% highway/40% city on 87 octane. I'd say give it a few more tanks.
BenjiBoy650 02-08-2007, 10:07 PM The highway mileage boosts it a lot as does having a manual tranny...so 18 --> low 20's is about right considering the differences.
optimist 02-08-2007, 10:32 PM What is the headunit screen? And what would it cost to fix.
I am Considering buying an extended warranty, but it cost a lot. I hate to pay for a warranty to cover me from 36,000 to 100,000 if future problems
probably won't amount to the $!,300 dollar warranty cost??
Lasty, do you know if accords sometimes have front end alignment issues. My car pulls slightly to the right, still has the original Michelin tires, but they appear in good shape at 28,000. I assume they can go another 10,000 or so, is this correct??
optimist 02-08-2007, 10:36 PM One other question, I believe my 05 is a 5 speed auto. Anyway, i can distinctly feel each shift especially at the lower shifts. Is this normal and is this a good sign or could I already have a transimission issue. I also have a jeep grand jeep cherokee and I hardly ever notice it shifting. Now the jeep has 80,000 miles and the accord has 28,000???
accord 02-09-2007, 07:55 AM your car only has 28,000 miles, don't trip, and about the transmission, its not supposed to be un-feel-able luxury madness its only a accord no lexus
so i dont think you have anything to worry about. As for the extended warranty, I would advise you to get it as things can become very expensive to replace.

Taking a chance to answer.. the radio display. "head unit" being common buzz word for a car stereo.

You'd be paying for complete peace of mind in as much as paying for potential repair insurance.. 100k drivetrain.. I'd really consider it myself. All depends on how confident you are of the service you'd receive with that ext. wtty.
EXLNavi 02-09-2007, 08:12 AM There's a thread in DIY about the head unit fix.

.....a recent 10-day trek: LA - NV/AZ - LA...........the LA serious traffic really reduced fuel efficiency big time. I calculated 20.6. I usually get 26-28 around the state capital........and my last two Interstate trips were circa 36.
....best, ez..
